Tansu the Night Away...

Now, aside for organizing a bit and cleaning out the storage room (and finally "purging" the costumes; I've admitted I'll never wear some of them again, though I'd love to fix them up, there's really no point), I'm done setting up house!

I visited nessun and got my last box, which housed my 2nd tansu. And I set it up, sorted the drawers (surprisingly, the boyfriend nearly needs a whole drawer for himself for his growing collection - black martial arts hakama, formal outfit hakama, kimono, haori, and yukata), and decorated the top.

(don't worry, my house is not that crooked - it's b/c I had to practically climb on the teensy counter to take the photo from far enough back that the tansu would fit in it - which is maybr only 1.5m away)

The top drawer is mostly dance stuff - yukata, the fans, umbrella, tapes, and cloth things that I used for dancing (OMG I miss dance so much) - and accessories (obiage, obijime, etc).

Second drawer is the kimono I actually wear most often, including my furisode, new houmongi, honfurisode, 2 kimono that are too small but I like a lot, and 2 polyester kimono.

Third drawer is the obi drawer, in which my babies are housed (a maiko obi and the expensive obi from the furisode and houmongi). Also living in that drawer is an all black Nagoya obi (which I think might be mourning wear), the bf's obi, polyester obi, and a red shibori Nagoya obi. <3 shibori!

Fourth is the bf drawer and my hakama and haori, including the AWESOME long one that Cal ltdead found and let me buy when I was in Niigata visiting her.

Fifth and sixth are old kimono and haori for sewing projects, and little kids kimono (they're so fluffy!).

It's my "kimono stuff corner" even though it's hardly a corner in the apartment! It would have been if I had the desk I am at removed (it's a triangle corner desk built in), but alas, I actually use this thing, so it stays. In the pic you can spot my little "swooning" statuettes (with their arm up like that, it looks to me like they're fainting) from the Tohoku kitsuke taikais, my "Miss Ogawarako 2004" statuette, my certificate from my first Seikai Taikai, my first dance fan, and though you can't see it, an obidome/brooch from my dance teacher. And two happy hidamari no tami's, one the "Yokoso" Japan and the other just a cheerful yellow. The cloth is from Thailand; I bought it in a village in the mountains for something like $3. I wanted to make something from it, but didn't know what, and in the meantime it's become the tansu cover.

Hanging up and to the left on the wall (there's a coat rack) is the bag I use to take the himo and other accessories in. Apparently it's an image of a card from some famous game...hanafuda or something. My sensei was rather pleased with it, and it only cost 100yen (SCORE! Kisachan, if you see more, buy me 1 or 2, please - they're so handy for keeping things in the drawer organized).

I love the smell of kiri! It's so fresh and outdoorsy. I wish they made kiri car airfresheners or something. XD Together they stand about 80-90cm tall. Perhaps a meter, but I don't think they're quite that high. They are about 1 meter long, though, and I think 40cm or so deep. Each tansu cost $150 new from a furniture store called Nanao, and they're very light - I was quite surprised. Solid kiri, but not stained or anything. Just your really basic tansu.

I'll have to sort and document the collection later. I've been sorting this stuff since about 1030 and it's now close to 1am. *happy sigh*
