Guess who just got home from having a wheel alignment done on her car? For about $85, with NO mention of a tire rod?
Yeah, that's who.
HAHA SCREW YOU MIDAS *middle finger*
I don't think I'll ever go there again.
In totally other random news, in watching Style By Jury, there's a Bombshell Coach. I think I need one some lessons from one. Time to get on with breakfast and a shower and stuff as I'm going in to work today in order to get Saturday off.
Or else I don't like mechanic shops. I wish I knew a LOT more about cars, because then I wouldn't be able to be talked into things that didn't need to be done. I guess I should have taken shop class in high school or something. I wonder if there's college classes for learning about your car? I should look into that.
Anyways, took the car to Midas for the tire change and oil change, along with wheel alignment. They did a visual inspection and checked fluid amounts.
They DID change the oil and tires. However, they couldn't do the alignment because they said the left outer tire rod needs to be changed, which needs to be done before the wheel alignment. She really stressed "safety issue". I'm sure it is, but it's expensive to fix; alignment with rod change (I just had the RIGHT rod changed a few months ago, but they didn't align it for some reason), is $312.94.
They say I also need a brake adjustment (cleaning?), which is on special for $39.99/axle (usually $59.99). My ABS brakes aren't working, but I talked to my dad and it's not a huge issue to get fixed; no idea if that adjustment thing will restore the ABS. She said it's something that should be done once a year. The place I took the car before for repairs never said anything about getting them adjusted every year.
As well, she said the fluids (brake, power steering, and transmission) are all very old and dirty (I don't think I've had them changed yet), and recommends getting them changed, especially the transmission fluid, as when the transmission goes, it's $$$. The change for transmission fluid is $199, and another $100 EACH for the brake fluid and the power steering.
Also, bf says that the repair job I had done last year with the rusting issue around the gas cap is bubbling, which means it's not fixed 100% (even though I trust the guy who did it; I hadn't mentioned the car, just the problem, and he knew which type of car it was). So, that sucks too, if it has to get repaired.
I suppose what I'll do is take it back to the place I took it before, and ask for a once-over check-up type thing, and get an estimate. It's good to double-cheek things, especially when it's so expensive.
I wish I had my brother or dad here to deal with the car issues. >.<
Grand total from Midas, of suggested/needed repairs: $100+$100+$199+$312.94+$39.99+$39.99= $791.92 [don't know if tax is included] (not to mention the oil change fee and tire change, which together is about $100).
The car dad gave me is a POS. I CAN'T AFFORD THIS. I've already put $1200 worth of repairs/equipment into the car in the past year. It's 10 years old, so I guess that's why things break down, but ugh, this is like...what's that present that seems good, but in reality is more hassle than it's worth? White elephant? I don't think that's not quite right...
So, anyway, nothings getting done except tires and oil. And I'll try and research the rest.
OMG I want a new car, that's under warranty, and hassle-free...
