Today Emma had her first Preschool field trip to the fire station. I didn't work today so Landon and I got to go with her. She was so excited about going. She was the complete opposite of Mason when he went last year, and was not shy at all. In fact when the firefighter bent down to talk to the kids she ran right over to him and gave him a big bear hug almost knocking him over.
It happened so fast that I couldn't even stop her, but thankfully he was really good about it. After he talked to the kids they split into two groups and we got to see the fire truck first. They let each kid have a seat in the passenger side. While he lifted Emma up he said that she was his favorite.
They got to explore in and around the fire truck.
Then he showed us the tools they use to get people out of cars in buildings with also known as the jaws of life.
The kids each took turn trying to lift them.
Then the two groups which then we headed over to the ambulance to check it out.
He pulled out the stretcher and loaded up the kids I'm on it and was just about to give them a ride up on it when they got called to go out.
So all the kids had to back up and they got to watch the fire fighters get ready to go and leave on the fire truck. They thought that was pretty cool to see them leave with their lights and sirens going.
One of the commanders took over the tour and talked to the kids about their response time and why they use a fire pole instead of the stairs. He had the kids time him going up the stairs forces coming down the pole. It took him 33 seconds to do the stairs and only 3 seconds to come down the pole.

He said their goal is to be out the door in 60 seconds from the time they're called or if its at night and they're sleeping they get 90 seconds. Then they passed out fireman hats for the kids and we headed home.
I think it's safe to say she enjoyed her first trip to the Fire Station!
