Croup-tastic

Our sweet little Callen Ty has a nasty case of croup. Poor guy! It actually started late Wednesday evening, and all that night was quite sad and scary for me as he barked like a seal all night long. We arrived at the pediatrician's office first thing Thursday morning, and sure enough, little cutie has croup.


So, we've had some long (or short, depending on how you look at it) nights, but he seems to be doing a little better. He is actually a fairly cheerful sick guy, unless he is coughing. Then it is just sad. But, he just wants lots of cuddles and snuggles, which I happily oblige.




Ranger has been a sweet brother, and has tolerated the extra time stuck in the house pretty well. Thankfully, Grammy and DadDad came for a visit on Thursday to play with Ranger and give me a chance to rest. Ranger is also spending the weekend with Nonnie and Grumpy. All this grandparent time means Ranger is as happy as can be!





Ranger even wanted to wear Mommy's apron and help in the kitchen! He loves to be a big help!


 

Future Shoe Salesman?

Ranger loves to try on shoes. He isn't really that picky either...just any shoe that is available to him, he wants to put on! Chad prefers it when Ranger tries on Daddy's shoes instead of Mommy's, but I think he's pretty cute no matter what footwear he chooses!

 

Playgroup Valentine Party

Before I post about our Valentine party, I thought we should take a little look back at Ranger's sweet little playgroup. I have been so blessed to have my children at the same time as some very precious friends. Meredith, Katy, Jenny, Jamie & I have been having our kids play together almost from the beginning. Life is a little busier now, so it's been harder to have regular playdates, but we treasure any time we have with these little sweeties!




Our first playdate: February 2009. Ranger is the youngest!

June 2009 - They are actually lined up in birth order here: Kathryn, Garrett, Tripp, Brody, Luke & Ranger

February 2011: Such a big gap in the timeline of the group photo!



Last Friday we gathered together to celebrate Valentine's Day. By looking at the above picture, you'd think our kids had a horrible and/or boring time, but I promise they all had so much fun! They just didn't want to smile for the group picture...rascals!



Eating some yummy grilled cheeses and fruit!





Then it was on to cookie decorating! Each child was able to cut out their own cookies. After we baked them and they cooled, it was time for icing!!







At this point Ranger and Brody had officially abandoned putting icing on their cookies and were just eating it by the spoonful! Happy Valentine's Day, indeed!





Then we had a fun, chaotic book exchange. It's always nice to have a new book!





Ranger was all about Meredith that day. She was so sweet and read to him on more than one occasion!




Of course, Callen always has a good time!



We really had a great time, and the kids did too! ;-) It was much more of a controlled chaos than I anticipated, so hopefully we'll make this a regular tradition!

 

Most Belated Post Ever

Well, it's only taken me 3 weeks, but I'm finally posting about Ranger Roo's birthday celebrations! My camera battery ran down at the beginning of his party, so I had to gather pictures from other family members. Since this blog serves as my family's scrapbook, I definitely didn't want to not post about the fun parties Ranger had to commemorate turning 2!


The Saturday before his birthday we held his big, Buzz Lightyear-themed, family party here at the house. Ranger loves all of his family and had so much fun with his cousins.



All the cousins (minus the babies) sitting down for a yummy pizza dinner.






Callen tried on his big brother's "newsies" hat.






I was so surprised when it was time for Ranger to blow out his birthday candles...he actually blew them out all by himself! We had never practiced this, or even talked about it, so he must have watched enough of his little friends to know what to do! Smart boy!

Of course the messy cupcakes led to a bath. Ranger and Milla splashed and laughed until they started turning into prunes and we had to pull them out of the tub.




Such a fun party!!






Then, on Ranger's official birthday, we ate at Chick-fil-a with a few friends. Chick-fil-a might be one of Ranger's top 5 favorite places!





Thanks for meeting us for lunch, Tripp and Luke!





Later that evening we met Nonnie for dinner at Mooya. I wanted Ranger to blow out candles on his actual birthday, but I didn't have a cookie or cupcake. So, his blew out candles on his birthday grilled cheese. He didn't seem to mind!





And neither did Callen!





Not to worry...there may not have been cookies and cupcakes, but there was a yummy milkshake!




So, Ranger sort of had 3 birthday celebrations. I love it! I plan to always make my boys' birthdays a really fun occasion. Even though he had already had a party, his official birthday is such a special day to our family that we just had to celebrate all day long!

 

Callen Ty is 5 Months Old!

Happy 5 month birthday, Callen Ty! Callen is such a joy to be around. He is so sweet and happy and gives his smiles willingly to anyone who gives one to him. He has really started noticing and "communicating" with us.







Daddy is a favorite of both boys!





Callen's dimples are the sweetest! He likes to laugh at us when we do our silly, over-the-top voices.





Callen loves the jungle play mat as much as Ranger did. He spends so much time playing with all the animals. He's also a big fan of the exersaucer. Callen has been napping well, but the past 10 days or so have been really rough at night. He's been very congested, so he's waking up every 2-3 hours. It's so sad! But, I'm optimistic we will be back on track soon! Last night was actually great; he went to sleep at 7:15 and didn't wake up until 4:15. Then he ate and fell back asleep until around 7:00. That long stretch of sleep is just what we both needed!




Callen enjoys "tummy time" and has been rolling tummy to back for a while now. But, he rolled from his back to his tummy for the first time on Super Bowl Sunday! Since then, he has done it a few more times. When I leave him alone on the floor to play he never stays in one place very long, and I often find him wedged against furniture.







These two boys really love each other. Callen pays so much attention to Ranger, and Ranger always needs to know where Cal-Ty is. Ranger also thinks it's hilarious when Callen grabs at him with his hands or gives him little kicks. (To see Ranger at 5 months, click here!)

Callen can reach for and grab his toys now, and is getting pretty close and getting his paci in his mouth. This will be a nice accomplishment when it happens!




Callen isn't sitting up quite yet, but sometimes he can "tri-pod" sit for a few seconds. I had to take these pictures pretty quickly!





Callen had such a fun 5-month birthday that he was just worn out! I was nursing him late yesterday afternoon but had to stop midway through to change Ranger's diaper. I laid Callen on the couch and when I looked up he was completely passed out!




Sweet little sleeper!



We love you so much Callen Ty!
