Last weekend, Chad and I took Friday off and drove to Portales, New Mexico to see my grandparents and my aunt, uncle and cousins. Josh, Amber & the kids, as well as Mom and Dad, also drove the 8-hour trek, although we all came and went at separate times.
Other than one small stop in Ft. Worth for a speeding ticket (I was not the offender; feel free to guess who was), our trip went smoothly. On the way to New Mexico, and again on the way back home, we stopped for some yummy BBQ and the world's best potato salad at Sharon's in Abilene. I would absolutely LOVE to find the recipe for that potato salad...it is the best!
One small, side story about our 2nd Sharon's stop - When we pulled into the parking lot, we parked next to a little car with several bumper stickers and decals on the back. One sticker said, "I believe in Dog." One decal was the fish that many Christians put on their cars, except that this one had "& chips" written inside of it. I quickly decided that this car's owner did not believe in God and that I would be able to tell who he or she was by appearance only as soon as we walked into the restaurant. I was wrong. The judgemental stereotype I had in my head was no where to be found in the restaurant. In fact, everyone in there looked like they must go to some sort of church. It just goes to show that you truly cannot judge a book by its cover.
Actually, it goes to show I shouldn't judge people.
We had such a wonderful visit with our family. We didn't see them at all over Christmas, so this weekend was a replacement for that, you could say. We ate so much great food (my Nima's homemade rolls...YUM!), talked and caught up with one another, and the guys even played some good ol' sand storm golf. All in all, a fabulous weekend.
Yes, you are seeing this correctly. We were on the SECOND ROW, BABY!
