Hail To Your Dark Skin

I feel like I'm just now catching up on the internet. Hanner convinced me to join Google Reader, and I love it, although it really aids in all my procrastination. Oh well.

People are getting into grad schools. CONGRATS. I'm jealous.

I should be asleep since I've had a headache for approximately 4 hours and I have work at 9. I don't want to have to do anything, though. I want to be able to do what I want, which, I realize, isn't really the real world, but I can delude myself.

I'm not sure I would associate the Decemberists and the Shins, but Pandora does. If you say the intricate melodic phrasing is similar, I'll believe you.

We're Rhode Island Bound

My sister had a baby yesterday! Adele Maria, and she's beautiful. I'm really glad that she's not ugly because I just do no know how I'd react to an ugly niece. The weather was ridiculous: a huge thunderstorm with bold forks of lightning and deep rumblings of thunder and gumball-sized peltings of hail. I'm not sure what it says about Addy yet, but we'll see as she grows. (I drew a tarot for her, but I forget what it was. I think it was major arcana, but I can't really remember. I've been playing with tarot a lot lately so I almost can't remember what goes with what.)

I've no other pressing news. I'm working at the diner again, and I've already put $800 in the bank. Hopefully I'll save more this summer than I did last summer, but we'll see. I want to go up and visit Boston a couple of times and to get a few tattoos, maybe a new piercing, and new clothes.

The only thing that sucks about my working is that I work Thursday through Sunday and Audrey works Monday through Wednesday so we don't really get to see each other. Plus Carri is out in western PA doing clinicals and I feel like I have no one to hang out with around here. I'm secretly already looking forward to going back to school, but don't tell anyone.

Oh, You Gotta Be

I have lived through finals, packing, the week at Michelle's, birthday parties, and all official 'I-haven't-seen-you-in-a-while-so-we-simply-must-hang-out-the-first-week-you-come-home' hang out sessions. The real reason I want to post is this facebook message from one, Verity Gale Salmon, and my reply:
i have to ask...

did you do coolin 0'brain?

just an observation on body language in the post-finals bender photo album that zach made :)

i am very sad i missed the debauchery.
&

Ah, my v-tas, asking the hard hitting questions.

I did not, in fact, do Coolin O'Brain. That would be weird.

I am also very sad that you missed it.
Love the lady, even though she was such a hosebeast that last month and a half. I will miss her as she's off eastern-Germany gallivanting.

Until My Darkness Goes

Today, when I looked up the Western Roman emperor Caracalla (son of Septimius Severus) on Wikipedia, this came up:
Caracalla (April 4, 186 – April 8, 217) was Roman Emperor from 211 – 217.

your hole family wears big hard coe extreme gitches you got a big poopchin
pete has a greasy bumchin
can you lick yur chilp? i can thats the spot between your chin and your lip
you stink like really big sumo reastlers under pants
bausmer is an old fart 2

That is why Wikipedia does not qualify as any sort of real source. Exactly that.

And Nobody Ever Came

Mr. Mason informed me of the linguistic conundrum brought to your attention earlier, and I give you these initial findings: You have forgotten the letter G, but retained knowledge of its representative sound. You have forgotten the orthography of the letter F. Further, you have also lost the native-sensibility of pronunciation, giving no notice to the existence of superfluous Es in your surname. Ignoring the possibility of any other, unrecorded incidents of confusion with the modern English alphabet, an 11.53% possibility of error in all things regarding English language literacy. This has occurred within solely the past semester. I prospect you shall become completely illiterate by the end of the next 3-4 years.

I love the people around me. But, to explicate: I once tried to pronounce 'gee-ess-you', our student union, but could not make any sound for gee besides guh; on Kate's birthday cake, I was cursive lettering 'funfetti chasm' but I forgot how to make a lowercase, cursive eff; and finally, my student id has said 'Kirsten L. Crookes' for over a year (I replaced it last spring), and I didn't notice until last week. It is very true that I will eventually become entirely illiterate.

Things Try To Break You Down

I learned a new word today. Panacea. It means a cure-all, from Greek. I like it quite a bit.

I downloaded some podcasts to learn Spanish. Latin American. There was one broadcast from Scotland, but that was mainland Spanish, lisping, odd constructions and all. It was fun to hear Spanish with a Scottish accent, though.

I'm so behind in school, and the sad thing is that, at this point, I don't care to catch up at all. Boo, me. I need this semester to be over already.

I Do What I Want, And I Want What I See

A certain person wrote me this in the library tonight. We were all just too bored by half of all the studying, so he lightened the mood.

Ode to Catullus By Zach Mason
by Zach Mason

Oh Big C Man with your foul, foul ways
Please write another poem without delay.
Meter is for big fat pussies, Form is for sweaty ballsacs
Get me some anus licking pre-teen so I may fuck him in the ass

My mouth is so dirty, yet somehow I'm clever
For I am Catullus, they will read me forever

Who said that Classics were boring and dull?
Oh yeah, those who read Aristotle.
I can write about hymens, pubes, foreskins and be just ever so crass
Get me some anus licking preteen so I may fuck him in the ass

Put your big cock in my mouth and it will be severed
For I am Catullus, they will read me forever.

The only editorial freedom I have taken is to amend his spelling 'Cattulus' to 'Catullus' for a little clarity.
I'm tipsy and have class at 8 am.

I played kings two times over, had a little talk on the street, loved everyone, wrote an essay in 2 hours, got a book about welsh (<3's Mike!), and just generally had a great evening.

Even though this semester sucks, the people in it are some of the best I've ever known, and I am so glad that I ever meet them. (I was going to say 'found them,' but I find that offensive, as if they were just pointless until I met them and assigned their various worths.)

<3, <#, love, heart, whatever else expresses the joy in my chest area right now.

Also, tonight, Verity said I do not believe in love, but that's false. I just don't know about the romantic concept of love. I find that a little faulty, especially since it wasn't really thought of until about the 14th century, or (if I'm generous) the 10th century.

Yesss, Mozilla has a spell check. Sweet.

I love this icon. Also, I really like Azureus, although I think I shouldn't have tried the beta 3.0.

Drunk,

Instead of Bombing Our Neighbors

I haven't updated since January, but that's okay because February is a pointless month anyway. I officially have everything completed and sent in for the ICCS. With hope, I'll get in, but it would be no great loss if I didn't. Next semester at BU promises to be pretty dominant. I'd get to live in a great apartment with Keight, take PJJ's Aeneid class (12 books, 12 weeks), Greek History with Samons, plus Brit Lit II, and either history of the english language (!!) or twentieth-century British & Irish poets (Yeats to Heaney!). Whatever happens, happens, and I'm content either way.

I suppose I've done nothing of much note in February. I went shopping and bought cute underwear and outerwear. I'm nearly done watching Queer as Folk, as in I'm halfway through the last season. I'm reading a really interesting book called I, Claudius for my Suetonius class. I wrote a paper which I liked on Beowulf. I tripped face for the first time ever, and now I'm taking a break from illicit substances. It was really mentally and physically taxing. I don't regret it though; it was a great time.

Now I've got to get some work done, as I have three midterms this week (1 Wednesday, 2 Thursday, which were originally all on Thursday), and a bibliography due tomorrow.

Christa's in Ireland (!), and I'm terribly jealous. Safe trip and all that.
