I think it is a complete disadvantage to all mothers out there when other mothers do not share the truth and sometimes brutal honesty about motherhood. With that said, I vow to try my best to let you in on the good times and yes, the times that my household struggles.
This week I have been chewed up and spit out. But to be honest tonight is the first night of the week (Friday) that I actually feel it. Here is the rundown...
On Monday about 8:30pm Brock was really struggling getting down. So after doing our normal bedtime routine, I brought him back out to the living room to continue rocking him to see if he would settle down. It was not 10 minutes later that my husband, our dog, and myself all experienced first hand projectile vomit. Yet, you heard me. And let me state that for some odd reason babies can truly projectile like someone has put a tank of nitro up their butt. Champ was first on the scene as Tim and I simply staired at each other for a moment thinking to ourselves..."what the heck was that!" Then the scurrying started.
There is nothing sadder than seeing your little one heave so much that his eyes just want to roll back into his head because he is so exhausted and sick. I too know the feeling only because it was not a day later that I was doing the exact same thing. Tim had just gotten called off to work as I texted him what was going on. Brock was crying in the background scared at the sounds and myself exhausted. What a sweet husband I have to call his big boss to see if he could come home to take care of the two of us. Lucky for him...he still has not caught it.
I have never ran our washing machine so much in one day. When a kid is sick...watch out. Once they get a little older you can attempt to direct them, with a baby, all you can do is roll them over and attempt to make them comfortable...whatever comfortable is. But then came stage two. The poops. Yep, if you thought that I did a lot of laundry from the pukes, just wait until the poops! Ha!
But as the week has drug on, our systems are recovering. However, as many mother's out there know, that when a little one gets sick, your routine goes out the window. So I have found out tonight the new struggles of getting back on track.
Brock has been exhausted today for some reason. It couldn't be his two 1 hour plus naps today. Could it still be the flu? Could it be his system backing up a bit? Could it be Teathing? (Side note: whenever you do not truly know what it is...we always blame teathing. Brock has been teathing for about 5 months now.) He would not eat dinner and after rubbing his eyes only 2 hours after waking up from our late afternoon nap, we continued on with our routine. Finally it came to bedtime. And since we are starting to feel better and have not pooed horribly or puked in about 2 days, it is time to get back on track with the old routines. We went into his room, laid on the floor, looked at the stars and listened to his lullabies until he fell asleep. It worked...until 20 minutes later he woke up screaming in his crib.
So for the next 40 minutes I attempted the cry out method. I am determined to sleep alone tonight! Only, it took longer than 40 minutes because after going in to check on him for one of the last times I realized he had pooed. So I took him to the changing table and while changing his diaper, he was so worked up, that he gagged himself and puked. That was the point that I realized he also had puked in his bed because he was so worked up...not because of the flu. After quickly addressing the poo, and then undressing my puke covered munchkin, he was still worked up and decided to do a swan dive backwards into the shelf and knock himself in the head.
Okay, so if any of you know me...this has to account for the chew me up and spit me out attitude of this entry. My mom would say...someday Sara, you will see, you will have a child that is just as willfull as you. Okay, I see, I see and for the record mom, thank you for everything you did for me!
I continued to rock my munchkin to sleep in the living room with a new Binky, new pj's, new sleep sack and watched the night blow away in the breeze while he calmed down. Then I took him into his room, turned on his lullabies, laid him down on the floor and we watched the stars on his ceiling again. Just before he dozed off to sleep his little hand touched my tear struck cheek and all I could do was thank the Lord for this blessing lying next to me. May tomorrow be less challenging.
