It’s Memorial Day Weekend and after a long winter, neighborhood pools across the country are throwing open their gates to hordes of chlorine-starved, pale-legged children. Adelaide has never been to the pool so was unaware that she should be eagerly awaiting this weekend – when the Pinewood Greens Homeowner’s Association would set out the rainbow umbrellas, plastic recliners, and “No Running” signs which officially declare that pool season has begun. Melinda, however, has been waiting all winter long to dress her daughter in cute baby swimsuits. So, on the first day of pool season, Adelaide was wrestled into her suit and off we went. At first, Adelaide was a little skeptical about wading into the cold water of the kiddy pool toward the screaming, splashing toddlers. You’ve all been there, right? Adelaide was looking exceptionally cute and smiley this morning. So, we thought, “Why not snap a quick picture for the grandparents? They are always bugging us for more pictures…” Fast forward to half an hour later, and we’re late for work with nothing to show for our efforts but a memory card full of blurry pictures of flailing limbs that no amount of photoshop can save. Alas, these are the best of the bunch... What's going on? Is that a camera? Can I have it? Really? You couched me?  FLOP! *Forced Sit* 1...2...3 ...DIVE! (and catch) This is my, I'm-over-this-face. Can we be done now? Thank goodness for digital cameras!

Yesterday was May Day! Unfortunately, in Virginia, there was a SHOCKING lack of dancing around the maypole… Perhaps the morris dancers had no interest in celebrating the beginning of spring with us, since our planting season kicked off over a month ago. Our tulips, hyacinths and daffodils have come and gone. The azalea bushes are in full bloom. The fig tree’s branches are covered in little figlets. And, the herbs are looking robust. Adelaide lost her job as Junior Weeder  when she started pulling up the tulips. We signed up for a farm share again this year, so we’ll be getting a large crate of veggies and fruit weekly from the farmers market throughout the summer and fall. Because we have guaranteed fresh produce every week, we decided to get a little creative with our vegetable beds. Purple potatoes, red carrots (inspired by Adrienne), black tomatoes…we can’t wait to make a salad with all our off-colored harvest! We also planted some more traditionally-colored items including...
