Celebrity Sighting

Last night I went out to dinner at 10 Downing with Alston for his birthday and guess who was at the restaurant? Patrica Clarkson, American Academy Award-nominated and Emmy winning actress, but more importantly? One of the stars of the SNL Digital Short "Motherlover". (Warning Mom, this video contains graphic content which you are not old enough to view.)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALSTON! Today my brother turns 26 and if I thought my little sister turning 24 made me feel old? Alston turning 26 REALLY makes me feel old! It seems like just yesterday I was torturing him, holding him down and spitting on his face, verbally and emotionally berating him....ahhh, the good ole days.

Well, it turns out Mom was right when she used to say "Be nice to your brother, one day you will love each other." Now that we are older, and less prone to punching and biting, we have become friends and I feel very lucky to have my brother living in NYC with me. Alston, thanks for being there to lend an ear, a boys perspective and a funny comment - love you!

This is kind of a random song for me but I have to say, for some reason I love it. I enjoy singing the chorus really loud in my apartment when no one can hear me and I REALLY enjoy watching this video.

Happy Birthday Katherine!

Today is my little sister's 24th birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHERINE! Very hard to believe that Katie is turning 24....because that means that I'm old. I love Katie for many reasons (some of which are outlined below) but mainly its because she is a phenomenal sister and friend, who is always kind and caring and ready to lend an ear and pass out a hug. Hope you have a great day Katie, I love you very much!

Katie lets me do at home experimental highlights to her hair without complaint. (They turned out well didn't they Kate? I mean, your hair didn't fall out or anything so that's good.)

She isn't scared to have a good time.

She makes UNC blue and white cupcakes for Carolina football games and brings them all the way from Charlotte. Very thoughtful. And delicious.

Music Monday

This belated Music Monday post is dedicated to my friend and old roommate, Kristin. Circa 2003 (?) a song came out which, for some unknown reason, I LOVED. And poor Kristin received the brunt of this burden. The song was blaring from my room, bathroom and car at all times of the day and night for about 2 months straight.

Getting ready in the apartment for a night out? Uh oh while wearing heels and jeans. In the car heading to the nail salon? Uh oh plus awkward car dancing. Doing laundry or cleaning my room? Uh oh while wearing sweats. Song comes on at a bar? Uh oh while dancing like I think I'm a Britney Spears' backup dancer. It was good times.

This song has recently been reborn on my iPod and now its.....Riding on the subway? Uh oh. Walking down the street? Uh oh. Getting ready in the apartment for a night out? Uh oh while wearing heels and jeans. (Somethings don't change.)

Luckily for Kristin who is now married and living with her hubby, she no longer has to listen to/see me rock out. But something tells me when she hears this song, she thinks of me :)

(Sidebar: I guess I should point out that she is married to Scott from below, who sent me the Color Me Badd video....so maybe she is still being tortured by bad music? If by bad you mean rad.)

Emerald Isle

The Sunday after Katie and Cory's wedding, I woke up and hit the road to drive to Emerald Isle, NC to spend a week at the beach with my family. The weather was spotty, but luckily we had lots of movies and books to keep us busy during the rainy days. I also got to meet my cousins Kyle (7 months) and Lauren (3 years) for the first time! Sadly, Kyle and his parents could only come for a few days but Lauren and her parents spent the whole week there, thus the fact that most of my pics are of adorable Lauren and her hi jinx!

Some things in the pics below that you will see when you click on it:

1) Uncle Doug, Perry and I went on a sea kayaking excursion - after 3 hours of paddling I had a tan, a sore bum and I desire for a Corona.

2) Cousin Ellen bought Lauren some candy dots and taught her how to eat them without eating the entire spool of paper.

3) We did theme dinner nights and celebrated Cinco De Mayo with some margaritas...Lauren got wasted. I'm teasing, relax!

4) Some swimming, sunning and reading took place

5) Lots of great time with the family!

The other weekend I traveled to Salisbury, NC (right outside of Charlotte) for my friend Katie's wedding to the wonderful Cory Menees! It was such a fun weekend and lots of our college girls came for the celebration so we had a blast catching up. The church was gorgeous and then the reception was at a lovely farm that was tented and decorated up for the big event! I didn't take a lot of pictures because I was too busy talking, dancing and hanging out but I did get a few....click below! Congrats Katie and Cory, we love you very much and were happy to help you celebrate your big day!

Uhhhhh....yes please.

"The Summer of Ellen" is going smashingly well if I do say so myself. One of the benefits of having no job, is that I get to go see movies during the afternoon....where no one can see me or judge me. Today I went and saw "17 Again" - which I should point out WAS the #1 movie in America for a time, so I shouldn't feel TOO embarrassed by the fact that I went.

What I should be embarrassed about? THE FACT THAT I'M TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH ZAC EFRON. Seriously. Will you look at this picture? WHERE ARE THE BOYS LIKE THIS? Please tell me. I would like to find them and date them immediately. He is just so pretty. His hair, his eyes, his skin! I'm definitely buying a poster of him to hang in my apartment. Next to the one of Robert Pattison.

All that being said, the movie was actually really good....even if I did boo and throw my popcorn at the screen at the end when Zac turned back into Matthew Perry. Let's just say Matthew in shorts DID NOT look the same as Zac in a shorts. Enough said.

10K Update

Ok, so we are 1 month away from my 2009 goal of running a 10K. So far I think we are in pretty good shape....I even woke up the morning of Katie and Cory's wedding to run 3 miles with Eve! (Go Eve, go eve, go go go Eve!) Yesterday Carrie and I ran 4.11 miles and we were rewarded by the fashion gods by walking past Tom Ford on the way home (Tom Ford, previously creative director of Gucci and now famous for his own label appropriately titled "Tom Ford", for those of you unawares).

Coach Cassie has put together a training plan to get us up to 6.2 miles by June and I'm feeling confident that I'm going to be able to scratch this life goal off the list. That goal and "Walk past Tom Ford whilst sweating like a pig wearing unfashionable workout gear."

Music Monday

Two of my best friends, Carrie and Liz, have both emailed me and asked that this song be featured on M.M. I would like to be clear that the lyrics in this song IN NO WAY reflect their college experiences, as some of the lyrics are "risque" as Carrie put it. But it is a fun song, and I have enjoyed listening to it very much.

It also reminds me of certain individuals who didn't get the memo that college is over and they are just old and pathetic. But I digress....here you go...."I Love College" by Asher Roth

Pooped

This past week was spent at the beach where the McBryde crew had a family reunion....lots of food, music, and fruity drinks! More pics to follow but here a sneak preview of my little cousin Lauren taking a break from the sun, sand and hot tub. Sometimes you just need to wrap yourself up like a burrito and take a nap on the ground, that's how fun our family is.
