6 degrees of Kevin Bacon

I don't need six degrees....me and Kevin are running buddies! This morning as we were running in Central Park we ran past Kevin Bacon jogging with his dog....TWICE! I think he noticed my HOT running outfit and wanted my digits....

Terry Trout

Not to be outdone by having his brother's fish featured on the blog....

Dad's twin brother, Uncle Tucker, sent me pics of the fish HE caught. Now, although this fish is smaller, it WAS caught using the fine art of fly fishing. Think "A River Runs Through It"......but instead of Brad Pitt, we have Uncle Tucker.
I would assume this is a trout?

If you squint you can see Brad Pitt and me on a date.

Billy Bass

Dad was doing a little "winter fishing" at our lakehouse and caught the below fish. I won't give him the satisfaction of saying its "ginormous" but its pretty darn big!!

Duke is terrible and you know its true.

I am REALLY behind in my posts, trust me...you don't have to keep reminding me, I'm getting to them as fast as I can. Here are some pics from the UNC/Duke game, where UNC beat Duke (of course) at Cameron. Just reconfirming the knowledge that Duke is the worst and so are the people who go there.
Luckily, Dad was in town to partake in the festivities that night so we headed to a bar downtown that Alston had coordinated with to watch the game. I didn't get too many pics because I was busy eating, drinking and cheering but you get the general feel of the night! Go Heels!!

Music Monday

We have a guest "Music Monday" blogger today folks. My sister has selected this week's song, and while it IS a great little ditty, I think its clear that she picked it more for the video.

Below are Katie's reasons for selecting "It's Still Rock N Roll To Me" by Billy Joel.

a) he's drinking a beer in the music video
b) the dance during the drum solo -- genius.
c) that outfit and hair? awesome.

I would also have to add...he snagged Christie Brinkley. Epic.

Headsets go with my bangs.

Last week, Sally and I got our culture on at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. We came, we saw, we dorked it up by renting audio headsets, we conquered. I have to say, I have started to take for granted the fact that I literally live a few avenues over from one of the great art museums of the world. I tend to jog by it in the park without really giving it a thought, but when you stop and really look at the building (which in itself is gorgeous) you are reminded how lucky we all are to live in New York City. Well, lucky because of the museums and also the 59th Street subway stop which always smells like pee. Ahh, New York.

Andy Warhol's "Jackies"

I forgot who did this? Monet?

Sally is gettin' her learn on.

Look how big the canvas is compared to the girl on the right.

Blegh

Its snowing outside. Again. I'm not really sure how a warm weather girl like me got stuck living in the North with all its snow and freezing temps and rock salt and ice and grumpy people and MISERABLY COLD DEPRESSING WEATHER but here I am.....

Last week was a big pump fake with 55 degree temps and I was all "I did it! I made it through another winter in New York City! Spring is right around the corner, yahoo! YOU DIDN'T GET THE BEST OF ME MOTHER NATURE, YOU SAUCY MINX" Little did I know that this was just a cruel weather joke. Al Roker clearly has it in for me. Yesterday I ran around Central Park in what felt like sub zero weather, wondering if it was bad that I couldn't feel my ears and hands, let alone my thighs. Today I look out the window at these little flakes and want to scream.

Where is my sunshine? My sundresses and tanned shoulders and flip flops? My sitting outside on the sidewalks having a delicious meal and a frosty cold beer in 90 degree weather? Must...keep...holding...on......

Music Monday

Happy Presidents Day Internet! Today for Music Monday we are going to go with a song from some classic singer/songwriters. VERY difficult to pick a song to highlight since there are so many, but I've picked two that are my favorites. One that is slightly lesser known that I hope you will enjoy.

"The Only Living Boy in New York" by Simon and Garfunkel

And then what I would have to peg as my absolute favorite.

"Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes" by Paul Simon (featuring Ladysmith Black Mambazo...that's right, the same Ladysmith Black Mambazo mentioned in the movie "Mean Girls". Love it.)

Well, that's one way to lose these walking blues!

Snuggie

Some of you may have heard of the Snuggie which advertises, "Blankets are OK, but they slip and slide. And your hands are trapped inside." Man, I hate it when my hands are trapped inside of a blanket, its so inconvenient. You have probably wondered to yourself - "Who orders these things?" Well, apparently my sister does. Not only does she order them, she gets them monogrammed.

Katie enjoying some light reading, toasty warm on the couch. Her hands are free to turn pages without that darn blanket slipping and sliding.

You can also eat and drink while wearing the Snuggie, while staying warm.

Is it just me, or do these things look like the Druid outfits from Star Wars? Anyone? Anyone?

Nannerpuss

I don't know why I enjoy this so much.

"You can call me The Nannerpuss, Nannerpuss.
And guess what? I love pancakes."

I always feel like.....

somebody's watching me........In official "The producers of The City continue to stalk my life" news? (See original blog post here) In last week's episode "the gang" ate dinner at El Bastardo - aka the restaurant Tatum, Carrie and I went to after her final wedding dress fitting last year.

Then in THIS week's episode, Whitney's boyfriend's band has a "big gig" that they are all nervous and excited about at The Cutting Room. Um, yea. I remember when I had my birthday party at The Cutting Room exactly 5 years ago, in 2004. It was so long ago, that my little brother wasn't even living in NYC at the time and had flown up to hang out and attend. We had dinner at Red Cat with, correct me if I'm wrong Internet, the Peloso's (shout out Scott and Kristin!) and then went to the bar to partake in cake and beers with friends. Mmmmmmm. Cake.

Perhaps the producers of The City would like access to my Facebook page so they can fully stalk my past and present whereabouts.

Music Monday

This weekend at the celebration of the birth of Mr. Jason Hove, I was reminded of this band a la a friend's HOT t-shirt. As the party moved into the late hours of the night, and the jukebox gave way to a DJ, our group made the request to play a little ditty by this band...and what we got was awesomeness. Awesome song, awesome dance moves and awesome air guitar. Ahh, the early 90's. Happy Birthday Hove!

Happy Birthday Dad!

Happy Birthday Tommy and Tucker! Today my dad and his twin brother turn 58 years old (but they don't look a day over 30 :) Who is your favorite child now Big Tom? Send money.) I hope you both have a wonderful day and know that I love you very much!

Thanks for being a FABULOUS Dad!

Dad

Uncle Tucker
Every morning I drink coffee out of a mug with a pic of my dad on it that I won during our Christmas "Dirty Santa"! Granted its a pic of him freezing to death at a UNC game but still. That's love.

More Joe

Stop the presses....Karolina Kurkova is playing Cover Girl in the new GI Joe movie? AWESOME. Maybe instead of Scarlet I would want to be Cover Girl.

Here is her write up - "Prior to joining G.I. Joe, Cover Girl was a highly successful fashion model from Peoria, Illinois who graced the covers of countless magazines, but she found the world of modeling unfulfilling and joined the army to seek out new challenges in life. She felt very driven to master distinctly unfeminine traits in order to prove that she was not just a pretty face. She is a tank jockey, specializing in the Wolverine missile tank, and a respected mechanic."

You know what is not awesome? Joseph Gordon Levitt is playing Cobra Commander. I can't see that. Also Marlon Wayans is Ripcord? Hmmm.

Sadly we have to wait until August 7th to check it out. Between this movie and Transformers, I am a happy camper. Now if they would just start production on Thundercats we would be in business.

Go Joe!

During the SuperBowl, an advertisement came on for the new G.I. Joe movie aptly titled - G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. I honestly don't know where to begin. I COULD NOT BE MORE EXCITED for this movie, and I could not be more excited that Channing Tatum (aka hot, hot, hot guy) is playing Duke. If only they would cast me as Scarlet who's official quote is "Beauty may only be skin deep, but lethal is to the bone". YES IT IS SCARLET. Yes it is. I'm totally getting that on a shirt to wear to the gym.

But I digress. After all the 30 year olds in the room went on and on about how pumped we were to go see G.I. Joe (sad) I made a comment which led to the following completely insightful statement, saving me YEARS of therapy. Its what Oprah calls an "aha!" moment. Here we go....

E: I was always so annoyed that G.I. Joe wasn't taller. I always wanted my Barbie to date G.I. Joe instead of Ken, but the G.I. Joe dolls weren't big enough. Their mouths didn't line up so they couldn't kiss!
B: And THEREIN lies your long standing issue with your height.

Internet, you could have knocked me off the couch into the guacamole. In one fail swoop, we had determined where the root of all of my height issues come from. ITS ALL HASBRO'S FAULT. If they had made their dolls appropriate height, I would never have to stand in front of a mirror before a date trying to figure out if I can get away with wearing high heels and doing math calculations based upon my guesstimating of the boys height.

It usually goes like this...Ok, so I'm 5'10". If I wear 2 inch heels that will make me 6ft. He is 6'3" but train A is going down the track at 38 mph and train B is going down the track at 41 mph and the town is 18 miles away, so which one of us can get to dinner first, chug a glass of red wine and make the date only semi-awkward.

Wisdom comes in many forms. The Real American Heros are no exception.

Music Monday

So I hadn't listened to this CD in a long time - yes, I have it on actual CD...something that is rare ever since I broke down and discovered the world of iTunes. But I found it the other day and have "rekindled" my romance...just in time for Valentines day. Every song is amazing, the band can play the he** out of their instruments and I used to LOVE to turn this up in the car and sing along and listen to them play.

If I had to pick a favorite song to feature (which I do because that is what Music Monday is all about after all) it would have to be "Hungry For Your Love" by Sam Bush, which was written by Van Morrison. I had a VERY DIFFICULT time finding a link to this song, so attempt to click on link and wait a minute and see if it plays. If not, trust me - purchase this song. Then when you fall in love with it, purchase the album and think of me when you play it :)

Part of the lyrics:

I'm hungry for your love
I'm hungry for your love
I'm hungry for your love
But I can wait now

I'm on the telephone
And I am all alone
I'm on the telephone
And we're connected

I got such a lot of love, I wanna give it to you
I got such a lot of love, I wanna give it to you
I got such a lot of love, I wanna give it to you

And after all the years
And after all the tears
And after all the years
You're part of me now

And though we're far apart
You are here in my heart
And though we're far apart
You're part of me now
