After a lot of deliberation on whether to go for a haircut or not, I decided to go for it. If you knew my hair were till my hips, you will understand why all this deliberation. It really is tough to go ahead and cut those long tresses...at least for me it sure is and has always been. Last time I had gotten a haircut was more than 2 years ago. And I was in the same dilemma then as I was now.
When I finally convinced hubby and myself (convincing myself was more tricky) the confusion was what style to get done. Coz if the style doesn't suit me I will have to wait for another 6-7 months before I can get anything done to set it right. So the options were to either get a razor cut or get the regular steps that I had gotten myself last time I had a haircut.
So off I trotted to the parlor - with little excitement and little nervousness. Yeah I'm like this whenever it comes to my hair! :D
And as I told the hairstylist that I wish to get a haircut, he asked me to sit in one of the empty chairs and then he asked me what do I want to get done. I said I don't know. You tell me what will look good on me. So he fiddled with my hair a while and then said steps would be the best bet. When I told him I was hoping for a razor style he said "It won't work out. They are too thin and too straight." So after discussing with him about further options the conclusion was that I had no option but to go for a steps-cut AGAIN unless I wanted to get them cut really short. Since I was not mentally prepared for a really short style I asked him to go ahead for the steps cut.
The moment he chopped off 6 inches from the bottom, I shuddered. He asked me if anything is wrong or if I need something. I just shook my head in negative and told him that it was nothing. There was no way I was going to let him know that haircuts make me nervous. So he proceeded to cut my hair and I could see them falling in front of me..my long tresses sliding off the silken cape that I was wearing around my neck. I suddenly was feeling very light in the head, not lightheaded though..hehehhe.., once he blow dried my hair. He gave a total of 4 layers. I thought they looked nice. And I did feel this boost of confidence admiring my new look.
And when I walked in the house, the two men in my life gave two different opinions. The bade sa'ab smiled and said "Its looking good" and kept looking at me and asked me to turn around. However, the chhote sa'ab made a wrinkled up face and said "Mujhe achha nahi lag raha" and turned back to what he was doing. Well..what could I've said to that. He has always been frank about his likes and dislikes!
So on the whole I'm happy with my haircut! And that's what finally matters. Doesn't it? :D

My riddle!
This is a riddle that Sue made for me on my special request! And why did I request a riddle for me? Because I was feeling left out as I did not respond on time to the request of being a part of the riddle game that few bloggers had planned as a part of an online baby shower for few of the preggie blogger moms!
She writes, does she,
Of her family?
Her betu who wants a car, and a pet;
Although a combo of both would be the best bet.
Lower case is her claim to fame,
'Waltzing Matilde' having part of her name.
And if you think I'm abstruse and contrary,
I'll give up the game and say she loves her Blackberry.
Isn't this is so apt? Thanks Sue! I know I should have written this before but as they say "Better late than never!" :)

My first mothers day celebrations!
I know I became a mommy 4 years ago and this should ideally be the 4th mother's day celebration for me but well we never celebrated it. And in a way we didn't celebrate it even yesterday as well but it kind of implicitly got celebrated. But a celebration is a celebration..whatever kind it may be! So thats why it was my first.
Neither of us remembered it was mother's day first of all. In the morning Betu demanded to have muffins on finding those silicon muffin moulds that my sister had gotten for me. So I digged out my eggless microwave chocolate recipe and served them up in 10 minutes flat! So Betu and I polished them off while hubby was getting his maalish done in the other room. I did save a few for my friend who we had planned to meet for breakfast & lunch. When we reached her place, she had made preparations for making breadrolls. Ohh how yummy they were.
Once done eating, we went shopping to Lifestyle store in Great India Place mall at Noida, near Sector 18 market. And it was such a fun day! I picked up a kurta for myself and a trouser. And then suddenly we hear a girl wishing all a happy mother's day and was asking random people some questions and generally talking to them and then was giving away some token gifts.
A little while later she came to us and handed over that gift package to Betu to present to me! Betu was so excited looking at nicely gift wrapped package that he clung to it like his dear life all the time and when we reached the food court tore it open eagerly. It was a nice shoulder bag...office kinds. The label apparently said Lee Copper but then looking at the easy availability of fakes that one can't make out, I wonder how original it was! But then who cares! A free gift is a free gift! Right? :D
We had yummy food at the food court. Ate some noodles with manchurian and vegetarian hot dogs and ended it with nice delicious donuts!
So it was a well spent and a very enjoyable day spent together with family and one of my friend. And this is why I said it was my first mother's day celebration and it was unplanned! Somehow I feel such impromptu or unplanned celebrations are THE best!

My contribution..
..towards global warming..err..I mean to minimize it have so far been:
At work:
There has to be a conscious thought towards this or else it will not happen. And slowly this conscious effort will become a habit and everything will seem so easy.
At work:
- Switching off monitor when going for lunch. 30 min of saving is good..right?
- Always switching off my system the end of the day when I go back home.
- Switching on lights only where we are sitting.
- Lesser usage of tissue. I have this REALLY bad habit of using lots of tissue!
- We use not more than 1-2 hours of A/C at home at night, so no scope of reduction possible there.
- No switching on of car A/C during mornings when I go to drop Betu to school and to drive back to work. Its around 8:30 Am and its pretty warm but then its not scorching.
- And no A/C in evenings as well when I leave office around 6 PM. Its pretty hot by then and me and Betu both end up in lots of sweat by the time we reach home but then its fine.

My diamond kitty
They say diamonds are girls best friends. I am yet to experience such friendship and am definitely looking forward to it :P
I have forgotten how many years its been since I have been saving money for my first diamond(s). Every time I would get money gifts for Rakhi or Bhaidooj or on our anniversary or birthday, I would keep putting them in a separate place and declared it as my diamond kitty.
In the early years of marriage when earnings were measly, we had occasions when the salary would not be sufficient enough and we would need some extra money and thus would end up digging into this kitty to take care of such contingent expenses. And its been very rare when the money taken out was replaced back. Typical human nature..right? :D
There was a time when I saved unto 15K for them and we even went to a few shops but whatever I liked was way beyond our kitty money. And I just didn't want any teeny weeny jewelery just in the name of it being a diamond jewelery. I wanted it to be classy and chic. But when were diamonds ever cheap!
Then there were times when we had enough money in the kitty but I would be tittling towards some electronic gadget. So after a lot of thinking whether to spend the money on diamonds, which would be lying somewhere in my cupboards or to buy a gadget that I can use everyday . Ok..maybe not even everyday but definitely more frequently than the diamonds. I would think "Who's going to get occasions to wear those diamonds often anyways!"
As expected I would always go ahead and splurge on the electronics. Once it was the ipod, other time it was for a phone for Hubby, then a laptop and it went on and on.
Earlier I used to blame our financial situations for not being able to buy diamonds but now the reality is that if ever I had the option of buying jewelery or electronics, I would ALWAYS end up buying electronics. It doesn't mean that I don't like jewelery (I'm a typical woman here :P) but love for gadgets is far more than the love for jewelery!
So I'm still waiting for my first diamond(s). But who knows I might tilt towards something else ...a 37" LCD TV or a sexy home theater system or a hi-end digicam! Who knows! *wink*

What's my name's hidden meaning?
![]() You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts. You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals. You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing. You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long. You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start. You are balanced, orderly, and organized. You like your ducks in a row. You are powerful and competent, especially in the workplace. People can see you as stubborn and headstrong. You definitely have a dominant personality. You are truly an original person. You have amazing ideas, and the power to carry them out. Success comes rather easily for you... especially in business and academia. Some people find you to be selfish and a bit overbearing. You're a strong person. You are confident, self assured, and capable. You are not easily intimidated. You master any and all skills easily. You don't have to work hard for what you want. You make your life out to be exactly how you want it. And you'll knock down anyone who gets in your way! You are a seeker. You often find yourself restless - and you have a lot of questions about life. You tend to travel often, to fairly random locations. You're most comfortable when you're far away from home. You are quite passionate and easily tempted. Your impulses sometimes get you into trouble. You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection. You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive. You have the classic "Type A" personality. You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow. You are light hearted and accepting. You don't get worked up easily. Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is. |
My take on this: Lot of things it says about me is true. The people close to me will agree on this.

The evil me!
Just few minutes ago the guy, who sits next to me at work, gave me a chocolate. Now before you start going "Ahaa.." let me hold you right there. I will not go into the details of the guy as I don't think I should and neither he's worth my time :P
So I asked him whats the occasion and he said he got a few at a party. I was about to say "Thank you and I really love chocolates.." when he added "I remember you telling me that you have a small child". And I go "O-OH" in my mind and all my plans to rip open the chocolate and gobble it up were "fissss...." and I was kind of sulking sitting there as I just couldn't open it and eat it in front of him because he has implicitly told me its for Anirudh.
But he didn't know what an evil chocolate lover Mommy I am and the moment he left his seat and was nowhere around, I quickly opened the chocolate and ate the whole chocolate.... Heeeheeeheee.... (evil laughter) Yes I ate the whole darned chocolate before he could come back and see me gobbling it up.
*echo the evil laughter here...*

Ways to embarrass yourself
I really think I should write a book on it. Its been just a few days since the fashion faux-pas embarrassing incident, as some of my avid readers called it, and I did it again! But this time it was nothing to do with clothes. Although that can't be taken as a plus. This time I can attribute it to aging self?..Fading memory?..can I? Ok, hear the incident and then tell me...
I walk into the office and see bunches of red balloons tied all over the ceiling. And I wondered "Huh? Whats the occasion?"..first in my mind and then to a colleague sitting nearby. He, with a very straight face says "I don't know...I think its baisakhi or something.." And I reply so confidently, "No, that was on Monday!" He again pretends to think and says "Maybe its a late celebration for Republic day...must be something special today I guess.."
And its then that it struck me...and I actually slapped my forehead hard.. and said aloud "Oh..its valentines day today.." and he laughed!
Can you believe it? How conveniently I proceeded to embarrass myself? And how he was pulling one on me..or rather helping me pull one on myself and I was acting like the biggest dud on earth?? Sheeshh...mera kya hoga???

How absent minded can one get?
I think I have beaten the record today! Yes! This is how I have come dressed to work today! With dark gray socks and white sandals!! I just can't believe it!
I had intended to wear my shoes but don't know how and when I ended up wearing these sandals instead! I can't even take these darned socks off because its way too cold to walk around in bare feet. And I don't even have a pair of skin colored stockings in my car to change into. Bwaaahhh! *Sob* *Sob*
P.S. When I thought I will just stick to my desk today with minimal essential going around, I have max number of meetings today...bwaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh...
