A Joke

While we were watching one of the Star Wars episode in our cosy little apartment in the heart of Jalan Orchard. Hubi is always a blur case when it comes to movie trivia. Just to amuse ourselves, the following conversation took place:

Me: DD, lemme ask you a question about Star Wars.

Hubi: Ask la... see if I know the answer.

Me: Do you know who is Anakin Skywalker?

Hubi: Darth Vader.

Me: Eii...E... You know one wor...

Hubi: Of course. You think I 'so kah' (stupid).

Me: Then do you know that Darth Vader has a son?

Hubi: Yes. His name is Luke.

Me: Impressive. Did you know that Luke has a sister?

Hubi: Yeah... the girl with 2 buns on her head.

Me: Do you know that they are twins?

Hubi: Issit....? Dunno woh.

Me: Nevermind.... What is her name, then?

Hubi went silent for a while.

Hubi: (Thinking hard) Shhhhh.... what is her name adi ah? I forgot her name. What was it?

Me: Dunno... you think lar. See if you can remember.

Hubi: Errr.... Errr.... Uhhh...... Dunno leh. I forgot.

Me: Then you simply guess lar. See if you can guess it right.

Hubi: They are twins right.

Me: Yup.

Hubi: Urm... Muke Skywalker?

Me: What???!!! Muke??!! AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAhAHHAh (wipe tears away)

Hubi: What..... they are twins right. So, Luke and Muke Skywalker lar.

Me: Still laughing......

The Hunt for Habitation

Hubi has been working here for the past 6 months and the Company is offering him a permanent staff status as to his current 'on business' status.

Being a permanent staff means that the Company will not be paying us our lodging anymore. My residence here in the heart of Jalan Orchard is numbered. So, off we went skipping to look for a little unit that we can stay and hopefully it is near amneties with dirt cheap rent. Haha.....

Unfortunately, current rents are a wee bit tad high and it is slightly beyond our budget. Yesterday, an agent callled us for a viewing of a unit that is rather empty but rent is good. Some advice we received were why pay more for fully furnished units when we can buy our own and it is our property. True oso...
So, this is the unit that we saw. Whatever furniture n electrical items in d current state is wat we are getting. Any others.. will have to be foot by us. Btw, d rooms are air-conned.

Comparison

I have wanted to post this d moment I saw this post of my best buddy's daughter.

You see... my best bud is rather tall. She is 5ft 7 (I think) and her hunny is over 6ft. Talk about a match made in heaven. They have a little girl, Chloe, who equally inherited their genes.

This is moi... taken way back when I was a teeny weeny one-and-half years old:

.....and this is Chloe, taken when she is about tat age too:

Now, somebody please tell me..... is it just me or is tat lil' gal tall for her age?

Attempt to Come Back!

Hi!! I'm back in action. It has been so many many moons ago. Blue, red, purple, multi-colored and whatever colour u want it to be.

Ever since hubi started working here in Singapore, I have oni blogged about my torture in securing a comfortable place to stay. It has almost been half a year ago. Now, it is getting to be a routine for me. I stay for about 3 weeks on each stay, cooking, cleaning and being a full-time maid. Then its back to home sweet home to 'bau ketiak mak' (smell mummy's underarm). I tell u it is d best smell in da world! Oh.. and not forgetting the pooch's underarm too. Err... make tat AFTER her weekly bathtime. heh!! Heh!!

Anyway, tat 1 week i'm bek is normally quite hectic as i need to settle all errands such as settling credit card bills, getting stocks for Singapore use, taking a peek of our little apartment n settling watever maintenance fees in arrears and such. On top of tat i need to make visits to my in-laws n catch up on friends. Then, i need to go for my facial (vain-pot!!), hair cuts n basically my grooming sessions (I suddenly feel like Duchess). Now, that doesn't leave me with much time for me to leisure around. And to think tat i quit my job to have more time... it
feels like i HAVE EVEN MORE TO DO. Sigh.....

Now tat the year is coming to an end and hubi's contract is looming up. We got news tat he is being offered a PERMANANT job status.... which means I'm gonna be totally settled here in Kiasuland! In a way, it is quite exciting cos we can lead a NORMAL couple life without interference from either's parents. We quarrel n make peace .... though tat doesn't happen tat often now (the quarrel, I mean). I use to remember that I will always flare up at least once a month (wink!! wink!!).

We now have even more things to 'farn' (think about). We need to find a place to move into comes January 2009. We definately cannot afford this current place we stay. It was just getting to be sooooo comfy here. The rent itself is S$5000 per month! Chilakak!! no need to eat liao liddat... We are looking for a cosy little 2 room unit preferably fully furnished... or at least the basics. It will be good if it is near amneties. In short we want the best with dirt cheap rent. Hahaha......

I Siang-ed Fish

We had been eating fish fillet whenever I cooked fish. Mainly because most of the whole fish on sale are rather big and the two of us can't finish. Today, I saw 1 that is of medium sized and it looked like (unfortunately, it is not. Wrong identification :( ) hubi's favourite fish. Without thinking, I took the fish and happily went home with it. O'goody, we are having a whole fish for dinner tonite.

Upon reaching home, I clear up the grocery and then it hit me.....

"Sien, u r in deep trouble! This fish need to be cleaned and you have never ever cut open a fish!"

"Nah... I have seen mumsie done it a million times. It's not that difficult, right!"

First, I need to clean out the scales. Now, where is the scales remover? There is NO SCALE REMOVER in this apartment. It is not a given item. Okaaaay.... i could go down to Cold Storage and get one. But to pay in S$??? I'm in Kiasuland! I had to be kiasu!!

Let's improvise. I could use the knives, rite! I just need to be wee tad careful, that's all. Presto!! I did it! The scales are removed and it is quite easy.

Next, to remove d inlets n d gills.... Ewww....... gross.

I didn't know how hard to cut d fish. First cut didn't even leave a mark. Okay... now let's cut with a little more strenght. Still, it didn't even "injure" that fish. That fish is thick-skinned!!!!!

Okay, dun care!!! Over cut... over cut la. Naik angin adi.... See people do sooo... easy. Maybe I dun have killer instinct. Maybe I am a lemah-lembut kinda person. Haha.... me? lemah-lembut? Gotta be kidding me.... If I dun get it this time, my name is not Ah-Sien!!!!!!!!

And so, the third cut did it and whatever is inside the fish's stomach all terabur keluar..... ewww...... plus super ewww.......

I clean it up and I have a fish.... a whole fish fit for frying for dinner. Ta-daa...

"Uncle"

This post is specially dedicated to a special "Uncle" in my life.

Y'see... last Saturday, hubi took me out to check out the Golden Mile Complex. We are planning to go back home for the weekend and I'll leave earlier to visit my parents first. I'm trying to get some cheap bus to go back to Seremban.

Unfortunately, Golden Mile Complex is not such an appetising place to be and hubi was quick to strike out any idea of me being there alone. He is a worry-wart anyway. Okay... Okay... I do admit it is quite a rowdy place. There, happy?

Since hubi has shown his disapproval of that place, there is no more point of us being there to hunt for buses that heads for Seremban. We decided to take a bus back into town and probably have some suburbs view.

And so, we hop on the next bus that came along and it was not really full but all the seats were taken with a few others standing. The two of us were standing in the bus, which is perfectly fine. We are a pair of young couple. No biggie. Just normal. Alright.... the two of us are in our 30s but thats not old, right?

The hu-ha came when a school girl that sat in front of us stood up and offerred her seat to hubi, "Uncle, please take a seat."

Hubi was so shocked that he took a quick look around and gave a smile to the school girl, waved his hand and quickly replied, "No, it's ok. Thank you"

He looked at me and gave the sheepish-est grin. I gave him a smile and controlled my urge to burst out laughing.... I didn't want to make the girl feeling awkward.

When we alight at our station, I laughed hysterically and called him "Uncle" for that whole day.

Poor Uncle..... Uncle don't be angry, har....

Kicked Out

We were staying quite happily in Unit #06-53. Hubi goes off to work in the morning and I will do some cleaning and washing. By mid-day, I will go down for lunch and buy grocery for dinner.

I was getting my routine up and was planning to go for some adventure on my own. Was having this idea that I will go out to hunt for a wet market in the suburbs where prices will be much cheaper and I could get more yummy goodies.... when the agent send his underling to knock on my door at 4pm yesterday.

Underling: Ma'am, you need to move out of this unit by tomorrow.

Me: What?! Why don't you come and tell me tomorrow? What's the hurry?

Underling: Urm... we need to do renovation on this unit. The people will come tomorrow.

Me: Which unit will we be moving into?

Underling: Dunno.

Me: Will you please go and check and let me know.

Immediately I sms-ed hubi. "They want us OUT by tomolo!".

When hubi came home, I told hubi that I refused to pack. They are not going to have this unit right after I have clean up everything including washing their curtains. At the very least let me enjoy it till the weekend. At the same time, we were cooking up Plan B. We are putting up a fight. No way he is getting it easy. We will want to view and inspect the new unit. The new unit will be thoroughly cleaned and there will be no more disturbance from them and no more moving us to another unit unless the unit that we are moving into is not up to our satisfaction.

%$@*$&^%^!%@*^#%@$!"#^#%'&@%#$!"#*$&$%@&

The next morning, hubi relates the whole story-mory to his secretary. She was furious to learn of the trouble we went through. She informed us that they had just signed the tenancy agreement and therefore we were basically..... KICKED OUT. However, the secretary says that the check has not been issued. We will hold their $$$ until we find the new unit is satisfactory. To top it off, this will be their last business deal with the Company. No more dealings.

Initially, I was rather depressed. I didn't want to pack at all but then WHAT IF questions came. And so, I spend that morning doing partial packing. I took out our travelling bags and pack up the bedroom stuffs.

By 11am, the agent came personally and did a routine of apologizing. This time, it was because a tenant is moving in and therefore we need to vacate. I was pretty smug and said with a smile "No need to apologise. I understand your position. Your impression has been made and I'm very impressed".

Sarcastic? You bet.

Hubi made a trip back from work to have a look at the new unit. There was a gang doing the clean up. At least half dozen of poor scapegoats made to clean up the new unit. We basically did the "finger test" on everything. Swiping everything with our finger. This time, it was all well cleaned. The place is pretty cosy and comfortable too.

And so, we move in. By 4pm, our stuffs were shifted from Unit #06-53 to Unit #05-64.... and I ended up unpacking and re-arranging.

My Apartment & Home Cooked Dinner

Hubi was staying in a hotel (Gallery Hotel) until his company finds him an apartment. He got his apartment and sent me photos of the apartment. The layout looks good. It was a 1-room apartment. Located upstair of Centrepoint in Orchard Road. Perfect, I could go shopping till I drop. He got the keys over the weekend (6 July 2008).

This is the layout:
Unit #06-57

When I was in the train, hubi sent me an sms. 'I have a surprise for you', it said.

The surprise came that we were upgraded to a 2-room unit as the present unit will be renovated. Great news!

The moment I stepped into the apartment, I loved it.

This is the layout:

Unit #06-53

However, the downside was, the apartment was filthy. Everything was dirty to touch. I ended up cleaning that darn place for two days. And so, my latest job title - Ta-Sou-Po (Cleaning Lady). But I was happy. The place is clean and I'm enjoying a private life without my in-laws (i'm not complaining about them, but you get the idea).

Today, I don't have to do any cleaning and so I hopped downstair to do some grocery at Cold Storage. I got some ribs for soup, red vege (which is actually green leafed) and fish.

Hubi came home to a surprise of home cooked dinner.

Unfortunately, hubi gobbled up everything and forgot about taking a photo. He only remembered to take a pic AFTER dinner.

And so...

Delayed...

Mangkukz.....

My train departure was delayed by 20 minutes but I ended up 2 hours late on my arrival.

I arrived Singapore train station about 11:15pm and hubi was there to greet me. The moment I saw him, he gave me a big bear hug and it was great to be in his arms again. Finally, he knew how to hug me to comfort me after such a long journey.

We tried to get a cab to go back to the apartment and managed to flag down one after couple of minutes waiting. Great!! We manage to get a taxi before midnight! This bugger took us for a spin drive and we ended up paying S$14+ from Tanjung Pagar train station to Centrepoint Apartment in Orchard/Cuppage Road when it would cost less than S$10 (which I found out later). :(

Freedom

Today is finally my last day of work.

Last year I have signed a "sell-my-soul-to-the-devil" contract for a year. It was a bad deal but I couldn't be care less as I was going through an emotional turmoil. I have just gotten married for half a year then and as any normal married life, there were teething problems. I grab watever that came my way to make my life difficult as punishment to hubi. Looking back now, things were not as bad as it seemed. I have made many new friends and much joy in my work, along with the downside. I guess it is part and parcel of life.

Part of me is rather eager to leave and join hubi in Singapore, where we will start a fresh chapter in life. On the other hand, I kinda mm-sae-tak (don't have the heart) to leave the friendship that I have built with my colleagues and lou-chin-puis (bosses).

When I left my ex-company which I spent more than 8 years working there, I left with a very heavy heart. I told myself that I will never ever get close to any colleagues and my relationship with any new company will be strictly professional. No more being caring and all that mushy-mushy stuff. I found that, it is easier said than done. I left with a few feeling 'good riddance' to me. Some were sad. I even made someone cried - I shall not say who. You know who you are and you are the one that I shall miss dearly. Whoi!! Remember to invite me when u get married hokay.....

On the other hand, I am ecstatic that I dun have to do stupid redundant reports and face idiotic, nincompoop corporate staffs. One fellow was horrible enough to make a powerpoint presentation that actually made me shed tears. I'm gonna chop her fingers off. Not five but all ten of it. Previously, she escaped with reasons for her five fingers:

Thumb - to say u r gud
Index Finger - to poke on people's back
Middle Finger - to send regards to your mum
Ring Finger - to put on a wedding ring
Pinky - to pick nose

That girl is a real funny girl.... by the way, she's a movie-holic.

As a last day here, this company have a culture to do an exit interview. If you are to leave, you must filled up an interview form which asks you 15 ridiculous questions. Review the questions yourself and have a good laugh over it. There is one that particularly tickled me silly.... what a question:

Home Alone

Wahahahaha........... Cry!!!!!

Yesterday, hubi has left for Singapore. He will be posted there for about 3 months.... and I will be staying with my in-laws for a few days before I go back Seremban. Then I need to settle some matters here in Malaysia before I can join him in Singapore.

This is the first time we are separated for the longest ever since we got married. 7 Lonely Days!!!

His past few business trips overseas without me was so easy. I didn't miss him so. In fact, I was hoping he would be gone longer so that I can go back Seremban. Now, it was so much different. I already started to miss him even before he left.

I even "consulted" a friend whose hubby went over to the US for a month!!! In addition, she was 8 months pregnant then. I cannot imagine how she counted the days but I know the days must have been real long.

Anyway, let see how shall I cope. I wonder if I will break down and cry. Hope not. I will survive!!!!

Handphone 2

This is the sequel to Handphones.

Last week sees that Hubi had a big burn on his pockets. He had to replace my spectacles that he very conveniently dismembered and a new handy that went on strike permanently.

I have been scouting around for a couple of weeks for a new toy..... either a new handphone or a PDA phone. I have always put it off as my handy was still serving me well, then. The day came when it was on the verge of giving up and I desperately need to get one and I have no model whatsoever in mind. I started to wander into phone shops and gaze at the numerous models available and fiddle with friends’ new mobiles. Most of them go for SE while I prefer Nokia. I even meddle with some of the students’ models.

Eventually, I narrow down the models to a few like 6070, 3100 and 3550. Then, I thought to myself, since Hubi is paying for this toy, why not I go for the higher range. I started to look at the N-series and E-series too. But, I still could not find one that I fancy.

One evening, while waiting for Hubi to come over to Sunway for dinner, I stroll into the Nokia Centre and there it was..... It outshines among other models and all I could see was the Nokia 6110 Navigator. Although it was an old model, released in January 2007, I WANT THAT MODEL!!!!!
And so, introducing my new partner.....

The Nokia 6110 Navigator

It even have a GPS system. I’ll never get lost in Kay-El ever again and Hubi can be assured that I’ll never call him and tell him "Honey, I’m lost. In front of me is a stretch of road and behind me is also a stretch of road" Ain’t this cool….. Now, please excuse me while I go play with my new toy.

Handphones

The day has come. My old handphone gave up on me.

*sob... sob...*

My first handphone that I owned was a Nokia 3210. It had served me well and it was a sturdy phone. After using it for a few years, I decided to get a new phone (Nokia 6510) and gave my old phone to mumsie.

Mum was using 3210 happily until the day came when I was informed that they do not sell its battery anymore. I hunted high and low and got the same answer. I had no choice but to get mum a new one. Luckily, my Prince Charming came into my life and I basically demanded that he gave me his spare extra phone. The Nokia 6230i. And so, I owned my 3rd phone and gave up my 6510 to mumsie. Again, mumsie had to use a hand-me-down.

*opps... shy... shy...*

That was 3 years ago.....

Recently, I got mumsie a new phone after all the hand-me-downs.

*feel bad lar.....*

I hunted for one that is old people friendly with big screen and big buttons and not complicated and big font. And so, on Mother's Day, which also collides with her birthday, I got her the Nokia 2630. Mumsie finally owns a brand new phone. So happy..... As usual, mumsie grumbles why didn't I just give her my old phone again and buy a new one for myself. Exactly how an old lady would react.... *sigh*

I told mumsie that my phone is old and is not functioning well, just to get her off my back. *Mum, if you are reading this, dun get angry, K*

A month plus later, my sturdy, reliable Nokia 6230i went kaput. The mouth-piece went haywire. People can't hear me well.

Its time to start treating hubi well. I'll need him to get me a new toy.

Little Destroyer; Big Destroyer

I have this little fren who was branded by her mum as a "Little Destroyer" when she cleverly re-configured her parents' eyewear.

I don't have a daughter yet but I definately know how it feels when your glasses went through unwanted hands..... in my case, The Hubi.

You see, in the case of a child, the degree of the damage correlates with the cost of the object as proven in this blog. However, if it falls into the hands of a careless-I-din-know-wat-I-was-doing-when-I-flick-my-towel-but-I-love-you-with-all-my-heart nincompoop husband, this is what happens...

My broken spectacles

It doesn't matter how much does your eyewear costs, the degree of damage is undoubtedly beyond repair.

Good news is, if a child destroy your glasses, you have to foot the bill for a new one.

But..........

If a husband kaput-ted your glasses, you can be sure of that he will have to replace yours without questions asked.

And..........

You can DEMAND for the most expensive eyewear in the world and he will not even "nget" a word in disagreement.

Poor, poor hubi. He has to live down with this blog. And if he is reading this, "I still love you, dear. It was an old spec anyway. Afterall, it is a spare. No worries..... You still have to pay for the new one, though." *kiss*

The Malaysian 5-Ringgit (Part II)

So, how??? Did you find the listed 5-items??

Just for those who cannot find it, here there are:

The swordfish...

The montain...

The penguin...

The boobies...

And finally, the astronaut. This you have to fold the dollar note into half and place the "window" over Yang Di-Pertuan Agung's head...
And there you are - the 5 items in a 5 ringgit note.
