Becoming a Resident Advisor [Sep. 19th, 2007|09:54 am]
Yoo See Dee RA???

Is this community still active?

Hmm, I'm interested in applying to become a R.A. next school year, and I was wondering what the requirements were. What's the process like in terms of applying and what's the selection process like? Is it highly selective? Will there be a good chance I apply and be selected? Is there a webpage for all of this?

Thanks in advance to those who read this and to those who reply. =)

DC Article! [May. 31st, 2005|03:24 pm]

Anyone else get a look at this article today? I thought it was kind of funny. Just shows how much opinion can go into rating the DCs. I'd usually rate them
1. Castilian
2. Tercero
3. Segundo
4. OCDC
but I guess it's just a matter of preference. Not to pull rank, but i HAVE lived in all three areas and can given an expert opinion (now i will step off my soapbox).

Academic Theme Program Question [May. 21st, 2005|02:45 pm]
Yoo See Dee RA???

silver_aeris
If you're in a themed dorm area and in its description it says "This program includes an optional ATP component" does that mean you can still be involved in the theme program but not have to take the one-unit seminar component? Or am I just reading that statement wrong and it's actually saying the program just happens to have the ATP component that not all themes have.

"Specialty programs identified as having Academic Theme Programs [ATP] include a one-unit seminar component; once a week during fall quarter, faculty members will lead discussions on a variety of topics related to the program."

anyway thanks... ^_^

so i've just submitted my SIR and i'm wondering about these programs offered at the dorms. how do you apply/request them (specifically the ones for women only)? i'm a little confused about that.

thanks

If you're interested in doing a program, these are the areas in which they are located.

For highly detailed information about the programs, go here:
http://www.housing.ucdavis.edu/Halls/New/program-new.htm

African American & African ATP -- Segundo (I think it's in Segundo North)
Asian Pacific American ATP & APATH -- Tercero M Building (I'm gonna RA here next year so sign up! hehehehe)
Casa Cuahtemoc -- Tercero A Building
Hammarskjold International Relations House -- Tercero
Health Science Floor & ATP -- Cuarto (Emerson I believe)
Honors Program (Davis Honors Challenge) -- Tercero South
Integrated Studies (invite only) -- Segundo (In Segundo North)
Multi-ethnic Program -- Segundo
Music/Arts/Performance Program -- Segundo
Substance Free Community -- TBA
Quiet Floor -- Segundo (Regan I think) and Cuarto (Thoreau Third Floor)
Wellness -- TBA (Either substance-free of wellness is going to be in Tercero for sure, but I'm not sure which)
Women's Program -- Segundo and Tercero L Building
Rainbow House -- Segundo
Communicating in the 21st Century ATP -- Tercero
Agricultural Interest ATP -- Segundo (one of the high rises)
Environmental Connections ATP -- Segundo
Education ATP -- Cuarto
Leadership ATP -- Segundo (one of the high rises)
Engineering ATP - Tercero (one of the letter buildings)

So let's say you wanna live in Segundo, you can see if you want to do a program that's available there. I've heard they're pretty fun. Not TOO time-consuming. And it's pretty helpful. Like let's say you're in the engineering ATP building, pretty much all engineering students take the same classes (math 21 series and chem and some programming some time or another) so you can get help from roomies and whatnot. Also, the ATP offers 2-units towards graduation for doing something. I'm not sure what.

Good luck! Have fun shopping for bedsheets or whatever. ANDDDD that's it.

I made a post on ucdavis recently, and was advised by vox_furor to post here with dorm-related questions.

I'm still no 100% certain that I'll attend UCD (still waiting for my financial aid package), but odds are good that I will. As such, I've been researching a variety of things about the school, including housing.

From what I've heard, Segundo has a great sense of community but mostly older buildings, whereas Cuarto has nice rooms but you tend to get to know only your suitemates. Is this accurate? Furthermore, how big is the difference in either of those categories: how much worse are Segundo's rooms than Cuarto's, and how isolated is social life at Cuarto compared to Segundo? Also, I haven't heard much about Tercero- what is it like?

What about other issues (DC quality, location, etc)? Are any of them significant enough to consider as selection criteria?

I would look this up but I'm too lazy so sorry in advance if anyone is annoyed by this question.

Will the Castilian Hall dining common be open on Wednesday night? I realize that it spring break and it probably won't be but I just have to check.

This is going to be a dumb question, but what the hell.

Dorms: co-ed? Separate floors? Everyone on the same floors? How does it work exactly?

Transfer dorms [Mar. 17th, 2005|04:10 pm]

Does anyone know where transfer dorms will be next year? When I lived in the dorms (last year) they were in Primero Grove but I've heard that might not be open to students anymore. This will definitely factor into my bf's decision between on- or off-campus housing.

Thanks!

Hopefully everyone saw this article in the Aggie yesterday (3/03/05). This guy definitely hits the nail on the head with his thoughts about the job. I'm guessing he was an RA before somewhere? Anyone know?

Fun Times! [Feb. 27th, 2005|03:42 pm]

YOU KNOW YOU'VE EATEN IN THE DC TOO LONG WHEN...

- you find yourself trying to bus your own plate when you go to a real restaurant.
- you go home and are disappointed to find that there isn't pizza at every meal.
- you know what DC foods are paired up (eggplant parmasean and new mexican enchiladas, 10,000 dollar chicken and mac and chees, etc).
- You remember when:
- OCDC was REALLY smelly and didn't have a fun tv.
- Castilian had trays!
- There used to be basketball courts where the new Segundo DC is being built!
- Tercero DC wasn't cut in half.
- You've got the cereal rotations memorized by heart.
- You have the times the DC is open at the tip of your fingertips.
- You've swiped in for 4 meals in one day.
- You know how much everything costs in swipes in your c-store (and still grumble about how you're getting ripped off).
- You remember the smaller cups that you could put in one another, spin really fast, and then blow which would make the top cup fly out.
- You have a specific tshirt/sweatshirt that is your DC apparel.

Add more of your own!

On the subject of residents, what have been some of the nicest things residents have done for you?

Tonight on desk, my residents made me a full meal and brought it to me, complete with a bottled water and gummi bears for dessert! How cool is that?

My office is NOT a main entrance...grr [Jan. 12th, 2005|11:13 pm]
Yoo See Dee RA???

dra60ndancer
You know how they say "there are no stupid questions." Well there are! Like when you're not listening and then you ask a question someone just answered.

These are probably the same people who stand by my office door waiting for me to open it and let them in the building.
I know I sound mean...but this happens at least once a week.

My office has my nameplate in the window. And the door has 5 door decorations from my 5 buildings with my personal name on them.

It's really awkward when I am holding the door open for my bike and someone is right there and grabs the door and I have to tell them this is NOT an entrance.

But I should appreciate the diversity, they lack daily reasoning, but maybe they are the bright type who can send us to the moon.

My awesome apartment makes it worth handling these situations.

My favorite time was the person who asked if I could go out and swipe him into the building...

Should I be nicer to these people?
