Split handler will always show in full screen mode

[taoso]

Hi,

The split handler will always show in full screen, even there is no other split.

I am used to using tmux to split screen and make ghostty into full screen mode.
It is very weird to let the handler always be shown.

Maybe it will be great convenient to add configure option to hide the split handler.

Here is screen short of full-screen mode

I proposed a flag to disable it but this idea was shut down. I think the next best solution was proposed by danielwe on discord:

I think the sensible thing would be for it to only show when you bring the mouse pointer near the top of the surface. There's already a small area where it gets brighter and the mouse pointer turns into a hand. My proposal would be to use the horizontal extension of that area to the full width of the surface as the trigger area for showing the handle at all.

I played around with it and didn't like it (in particular on my 6k display max window it felt weird vs. my laptop screen). I'm not sure if the exact value is going to really matter, it's all a vibes thing. But if you think you've hit something better I'm happy to try it.

Haven't experimented, the 5x was just pulled out of a hat. Just found it a bit odd how it depends on the window size and split configuration, which is not the case for other active areas (the handle itself, the scrollbar reveal), so thought I'd register that feedback.

I agree with danielwe, maybe it could show when your mouse is within the top 4 lines of the terminal or something like that. Once you know the grabber exists, it doesn't really matter if it isn't displayed that often because you know it's there.

@mitchellh maybe it is better to hide the handler totally when there is single panel or window.

You can move a single split window to another window so I don’t want to do that. We could do detection if there’s no other windows though.
