Day 9: Your least favorite couple

Bella/Edward from Twilight

What an unhealthy trainwreck these two are! There were so many times I wanted Bella to tell off Edward about his possessive, stalker-ish ways. But she didn't. She nearly died in the woods because he broke up with her. What the hell????

( Remaining DaysCollapse )

I wonder if there's a meme like this for female characters out there...

Hmmm...it seems like a slow day on ye ole LJ. Maybe it was good weather all around today. (Well, not for us. We had rain.)

Anyway, moving on...

I'm not sure, but I think I may have figured out how to revise White Spirit. I jot down some notes yesterday before I worked on my position summary for class. I think I know where McKenna and Tristan are coming from now so the rewrites can begin. I'll sit down this weekend and see what happens. I'm hopeful.

Eep! I still have to post up all the prompts for the secondstrings Kick-off Prompt-a-Thon. I meant to do that yesterday, and the summary took way longer than it should have. Will have it done by Friday night.

Also, for those Heroes fans on my list, heroes_heroines is still active. If you've got fic, fanart, fanmixes, fanvids, or discussion related to the female characters, then come on by and make a post. Lord knows those women need all the attention they can get because the creators certainly aren't doing right by them.

And finally, the bruhaha over Russett Noon, aka Published Fanfiction Infringing on Copyright. I certainly look forward to seeing that lawsuit happen. Anyone else?

I wasn't sure I was going to do this, but I saw a few others list theirs. So, I thought, why not? All of these were written for fandom_stocking. They're all completely unbetaed so please forgive me.

Disclaimer: None of this is mine. All characters and concepts belong to their creators.

Sparkly Vampires and Slow Writing

I saw Twilight on Saturday, and yes, I loved it. Was it over the top? yes. Was the dialogue cheezy? Yes. But that's my kind of romance. Give me cheezy and over the top and I'm a happy woman, dude.

( a spoilery thingCollapse )

All in all, I will be seeing it again.

( And now for a bit of navel gazing that ties into TwilightCollapse )

Moving on, I'm addicted to the soundtrack. I must find more stuff by Blue Foundation and Black Ghosts (I think that's the band's name...the one that sang "Full Moon"). I love those songs.

******

In something completely different, I'm not going to reach 50,000 words. I'm only at 16,534. But, hey, that's okay. I have something I can come back and work on later and this is the most I've ever written for NaNo. For me, that's nothing to sneeze at.

Congratulations to all of you who are getting close to the magic number. I'm so very proud of y'all.

And now...back to work...

"I want blood from you..."

As I sit here on the reference desk, the time ticks by slowly. Anyone else's Monday moving slowly? I sent out e-mails yesterday while I was on the desk to pass the time, but no one e-mailed me back. That's okay.

Anyway, there's this patron that keeps coming back over to the desk, complaining he can't find what he's looking for. He wants us to do all the work for him. I won't do it. I showed him where the books on the subject are and I showed him the databases. I even showed him how to use the databases. I'm not doing it for him, and if he asks again, I'm beating him over the head with a very heavy book.

On a happier note, my NaNo story is coming along nicely. In fact, I wrote a very tame sex scene yesterday. It's actually not too bad, but I'm not going to let anyone read it. The best part, though, is I pounded out 2600 words in one day. I've never done that before in my entire life.

Hopefully, I can do it again tonight. I may have to do it around Big Bang Theory and HIMYM so I can have a break in between.

So, I'm going to admit it. I'm looking forward to seeing Twilight this weekend. Yes, I enjoyed the book, and I think the movie might be pretty good. I'm hoping to be entertained anyway.

draickinphoenix, our buddy Cleo, and several other people are coming with me, but Dragonhubby has been forbidden to go. I don't want to sit through the movie listening to his commentary. I love him, but he can be annoying.

So, what are you guys looking forward to this weekend?

Friday's Word Count
Winter Soldier
dragonsinger

Not as much as I would like to have finished, but at least it's something. But this does mean I have less than 7,000 words to go to reach my goal. (Yes, I know 50,000 words does not a novel make, but I think it's a rather respectable rough draft with no description or cohesiveness in it.)

Meanwhile, I tried to watch the new Twilight trailer, but it kept freezing. Either it's my computer or every teenager in the world is trying to watch it. Le sigh. Looks like I'll have to wait.

Lunch is almost over now. Back to work...back to work.

The Twilight Mess
Winter Soldier

You know what? I think both sides are crazy. Seriously. The "Twilighters" are defending the books without actually using examples to back up their arguments. The "Anti-Twilighters" are giving examples, but are really enjoying making fun of the people who like the books.

Is everyone behaving this way? No. I've read good arguments for both sides.

If you liked the books, fine. If you didn't like the books, fine. But do both sides have to go around bashing each other?

I've read all four books, and I do have the same concerns as everyone else about Bella and Edward's relationship. But, you know what? This could be a fabulous way for mothers to sit down with their daughters and talk about different types of relationships and how maybe to avoid the bad ones. You could also ask your daughter why she liked the books. It could be the beginning of learning how to look at a book critically.

I guess my point is please share your opinion, but please back it up with examples, not insults. And that goes for both sides.

So, I finished it. I was not impressed.

( Spoilers ahoy!Collapse )

In other words, Meyer, you can do better than that.

Coming soon once I get my thoughts in order: "Why I Like Twilight and None of the other Books."

And now to the desk!

Fannish:

- Saw The Dark Knight this past weekend (like most people on my friends' list), and I loved it. I don't think I have anything to add that hasn't already been said, but one thing. Gordon rocks my socks. No wonder his daughter is so awesome.

- We also saw a ton of previews before the movie. There was the Watchmen (which tallyhohoho enjoyed), Terminator Salvation (I'm such a John Connor fangirl), and a little movie called Twilight. Yeah, I squeed quietly in my seat the minute I saw Edward standing by his car. Dude, I so can't wait for December 12. Yeah, I liked Twilight...so?

Nonfannish:

- neogeisha_08 and tallyhohoho were in good spirits this weekend. They needed a couple of days of normalcy, and I'm glad we could give them that.

- I went to the doctor today for my follow-up appointment. If you missed the Breast Cancer Scare of 2007, you can find it all here.

( Might include a little TMI so feel free to skipCollapse )

- Now I've gotta write. Got some birthday presents to finish. :)
