School's Out Forever!
Winter Soldier
dragonsinger
I'm free! Free! I just turned in my last project of the semester, and this being my last semester, that means I will be graduating. Look out, world! Dragonsinger will have a Masters in Library Science. Whoo-hoo!

I want to find some way to celebrate, but I don't exactly know what I want to do. Got any suggestions?

I'm So Out of Touch
Winter Soldier

In case you were wondering (and I'm sure you weren't), I have not abandoned LJ. The truth is, this semester is killing me and my cable has been on the fritz.

So, what am I missing? What's the latest news?

I'm terribly behind on some of my shows (Grimm, Once Upon a Time, and Pan Am, to be exact) because my local channels keep freezing and disappearing completely. The cable company has been out to fix the problem, but it still keeps happening. I'm thisclose to canceling cable and getting a freakin' antenna.

I finished my School of Library Science portfolio and turned it in. My advisor approved so it looks like I will get to graduate next month after all. Now I just have to finish all these projects, which are due in two weeks. Oh, my head hurts.

But, next month, I will officially have a masters in library science. *Puffs out chest* I'm so proud of myself. And I hope I'll have a job to go with it.

I see the Internets are all a-twitter about the trailers that came out this past week.

The Hunger Games: It's gonna be awesome, people. And I will cry like a baby all the way through it.

Brave: A female protagonist...and she's a redhead...and it's set in Scotland!

Snow White and The Huntsman: Looks deliciously awesome as does Chris Hemsworth.

In other news, I haven't started my witchesbigbang fic yet. I haven't written long fanfic in so long. Can I still do it? Or have I forgotten too much?

So, what's up with you? What have I missed while suffering through this semester?

No one ever said it would be easy...

Four more weeks left of school, and it feels like I'm not going to get everything done. So much to do!!! But I'm making it work. Unfortunately, that means I haven't been around here very much. I'm sorry. I've been sucking at keeping up with my friends' list. Hope you guys can forgive me.

Okay, so what's been happening in my world other than school?

Dragonbrother and his wife had their first child last Friday. Dragonnephew is absolutely adorable and tiny and snuggable. He's a perfect addition to the family.

NaNo has been slow going. I've only past 4,000 words so far. I love the story and think it has a ton of potential, but I've been second guessing myself. I need to stop that and just keep going. How is NaNo going for you if you're doing it this year?

So, is anyone else watching Grimm besides me? I'm really getting into it and look forward to seeing how they handle the other fairytales. And I think Monroe is my hero. I need an icon...stat!

As for my other shows:

Once Upon a Time is getting really good. I love how the story is unfolding one small piece at a time.

Pan Am gets better and better. This past week's episode was really good. I still think Kate is in way over her head, but I think she's learning. Meanwhile, Colette is my favorite, and I'm all about Colette/Dean.

Oh, and TVD and TSC! This week is the mid season finale? Already? I don't know if my heart can take it!

What did you guys think? Point me to your reactions.

This, That, and The Other

Here I sit at the reference desk in the library, waiting for eight o'clock to roll around. Wednesday nights are my nights to work, and it always crawls by so slowly.

Anyway, let's talk TV and stuff...

School: Already well into the semester, and I have a ton of reading to do. I took an adult materials class so I've been working my way through twenty genres. So far, I've read Beauty Queens by Libba Bray for the Teen Stories genre and The Rowan by Anne McCaffrey for the Sci-fi genre. I'm now reading Fables: Red Rose for the fantasy genre.

Work: Patrons have been especially needy lately. No one can find the book they're looking for or their print jobs. I also just helped a woman who asked if I could order more books like the one she had in her hand. Let's move on...

Tv Talk: Ah, fall TV is back. Yay!!!

New TV I've picked up are: Pan Am, Unforgettable, The Secret Circle, and 2 Broke Girls. I'm still waiting for Grimm and Once Upon a Time.

So, anyone else watching these shows? Have I missed any important discussions about them?

Recommendations for School Assignment

Since my friends' list is awesome and all-knowing, I thought I'd ask you guys for some recommendations.

For my adult materials class, we have to either read or watch something that fits into one of twenty genres. I've got romance, fantasy, science fiction, horror, teen stories, popular science, the blog on books, and historical fiction covered, but I'm stumped on the rest of the categories.

If you could recommend a book, graphic novel, TV show, or movie that would be considered adult for one or more of the categories, I would be forever grateful.

Crime (Mystery)
StreetLit/Urban Fiction
Women's Fiction
Self Help/Advice or Inspirational Fiction
Literary Fiction/Drama/Poetry
Humor Fiction or Non-Fiction

The Asian American Experience
The Latino Experience
The Native American Experience
The GLBTQ Experience

The Triumphant Return!
Winter Soldier
dragonsinger
I turned in my last paper for this semester so now I'm free! I can check LJ on a regular basis again. I can work on my novel. My summer has begun!

So, what all have I missed? What's the hot new trend? Or has everyone left and I'm talking to myself?

Anyway, I checked out The Voice this past week, and I really, really like it.

( Spoilers?Collapse )

Okay, this looks to be a fun show. Anybody else watching it?

Defeating the Dragons of School Work
Winter Soldier
dragonsinger
*Enters the room and creeps along to the other end. All is quiet...too quiet. Sees three nasty dragons guarding her desk. They gnash their teeth at her. One has "Source Assignment III" written on its chest, another has "Resource Guide," and the last one bears "Final Project." Brandishes Sword of Awesome*

Me: Let's dance.

*Fight ensues as she slashes at the Source Assignment dragon. Blood squirts everywhere. Resource Guide tries to sneak up on her, but he's no match for the Sword of Awesome. By the time she reaches the last one, Final Project has bowed its head in defeat.*

Me: Time to finish you off. *Growls*

So, how's your weekend going?

A Few Ramblings...
Winter Soldier
dragonsinger
School has been taking up so much time this semester. So much so, it feels like I barely have any free time left. Any free time I do have is devoted to working on WS, spending time with Dragonhubby, family, and friends, and reading the novels written by members of my writer's group.

Is it summer yet? Better yet, how about December? I'm graduating in December, and then I should get some of my free time back. Yay!

Meanwhile, draft 3 of WS is coming along a lot better than I expected. The story makes much more sense now. I love where it's going. The characters and descriptions are becoming fuller. I feel much more confident about this story now.

How is your writing coming?

I even sent it out to a few beta readers, but I haven't heard back from them yet.

As for fannish things, I'm still an episode behind on TVD. I have a week-long vacation coming up so I should be able to catch it then.

I still love shows like Castle, HIMYM, The Mentalist, Bones, Glee, and American Idol. AI scared the pants of me last week, nearly kicking off my favorite contestant Casey. (If anyone has even seen a picture of Dragonhubby, you'll know why he's my favorite.) I'm so glad they used the save. But this week, I'm going to have to vote as much as I can.

Okay, time to find some food. How are things in your necks of the wood?

November is not my friend
Winter Soldier
dragonsinger
My group members for the term project that's due on December 1 are starting to make me panic. I'm trying to organize this project and no one is e-mailing me back. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the downside of getting a degree online. I so don't want to fail this class!

In other news, my wip went in the wrong direction so I need to fix it. I know you're not suppose to delete words during NaNo, but I have to or the whole building will come crashing down around my ears. And, BTW, Muse, Lorelei has one love interest. We are not bringing Kane the vampire back in for a potential triangle. No, no, no! Well...

Speaking of hot vampires, I've caught up on TVD through episode 4 of the current season. Will watch the rest once I get this stupid term project done.

So, how is your November going?

*Waves from underneath a stack of homework* I'm here! I'm still here! I'm sure you were all wondering where I was. Or maybe not. When was the last time I posted?

Anyway, school has been kicking my butt all semester. Just finished my part of my group's digital libraries assignment tonight, and am now turning my attention to my literacy analysis for my libraries and literacy class. I'm still not sure what my action plan will be, but I'm sure something will come to me.

In other news, it seems my writing has grown since 1997. More than a week ago, my writer's group read the revised first chapter of White Spirit. And they didn't hate it. So, maybe, just maybe, this novel has a leg to stand on.

Now, take a moment and ( enjoy this picture of my main character...Collapse )

Speaking of writing, things are gearing up at the library for my NaNo programs. I'm really, really hoping lots of people come. *Crosses fingers*

And, yes, I'm way behind on the music meme. I'll get back to it once I have this literacy paper behind me.

So, how has life been treating you?
