1. Farscape Probably my favourite sci-fi show of all time. I remember seeing it advertised on TV back when it first came out in England, and I thought it looked interesting, so I taped a few episodes. Me being the forgetful sod that I am, I never did watch the tapes properly. However, my interest increased one day at school, when my friend Jem started rambling about it, knowing I'd love it, and she was right (Season 2 was airing at this time). So, one day at her house, we watched some episodes she had on video - the first ep I saw in its entirety was 'Durka Returns'. I think the next few eps were the 'Look at the Princess' trilogy, and from that day on I was in love. That being said, I still haven't watched the miniseries yet. I'm actually a little afraid to see how it ends.
2. Insane customers Oh, boy, where to begin? I have rude customers a lot, but every so often, there comes along a customer who just makes me want to a) look at them strangely, b) run screaming for the hills, or c) both. Don't even get me started on the guy who, after spending several seconds staring wordlessly at me, asked to borrow a pen so he could try to write on my blouse. Or the guy who came up to me with a bag of cough sweets, loudly informing me that he planned to make soup with them. o_O
3. Lara Croft Been a fangirl of hers since 1996/1997, still am now. Well, of the Lara of the first six games (aka the original canon, which I sometimes refer to as old-school TR, or Core-verse) at least. The new Crystal Dynamics (aka the new canon, which I sometimes refer to as new-school TR, or CD-verse) version can bite me. I love the movie and comics versions of her, as well, but I cannot stand the CD version at all. Give me the cold, occasionally ruthless, biting, quick-witted original Lara any day. She's one of my favourite game characters of all time.
4. Boyfriends/Husbands I met Euan online, actually. He friended me on LJ after discovering that we live in the same town and share several common interests. We also dicsovered that, not only had we been to the same school and college together, he'd also been in the same college block as me and I seem to remember actually seeing him there on occasion. We soon got chatting, and shortly after we met up in person in March 2004. We became close friends extremely quickly, and it felt like we'd known each other for years, rather than a few days. Two weeks later, we were a couple. Later that year, we were engaged (although we kept it secret from our parents - we knew we weren't rushing things, but my parents would have seen it that way and I can understand why some people would see it that way). Now, as of July 2007, we are officially husband and wife. <3
5. Computer games A huge obsession/hobby of mine, as if it wasn't already blatantly obvious. I've been a gamer since I was seven years old, and there's no way I'm giving it up now, nor do I see myself giving it up in the future. I resent the assumptions that it's "childish" or "for men ONLY OMG", which are just... utterly stupid. Or the various accusations that get slung towards games from time to time, usually by the media who once blamed books, movies and TV on society's problems. >:( But, yes, anyway, I'm a gamer. \o/
Feeling: good
Listening to:Depend on you (Dub's electro Remix) - Ayumi Hamasaki
I've had a dodgy stomach for hours, and now my head is pounding. >_< I hope I'm not coming down with something.
Blaaaaah.
In other news, I finally aquired some Dog Soldiers screencaps, courtesy of some lovely person on capitrequests, so I think I'm gonna go on an icon-making spree now. :P
I'm also thinking of rewatching Sugar Rush soon, so I'm making icons from the first season (I would make icons from Season 2, but, alas, I have no screencaps of it as of yet).
Earlier, I walked down to Euan's workplace so we could both pick up a halogen heater as it's been pretty cold lately. It'll be perfect for those cold winter nights.
The weather has been kind of weird lately (well, it has been for most of the year, really, but still) - on Saturday (or was it Friday?) it was actually very sunny and hot, when on previous days it was quite cold. The next day, it was back to cold, and today it seemed quite bitter. I also suddenly noticed, before bed, that my knuckles (well, at least one of them) were starting to split slightly. That happens a lot in cold weather, so... yup. Time to break out the hand cream again.
I made my first post on hated_character earlier today, in defence of Yoriko Anno and Lara Croft - writing out my defence of the former has really made me crave Forbidden Siren again. It's been so long since I've played either of the Sirens - I still have to complete the second one. I can't really remember how the story has progressed so far, but I think it is possible, as it is in the first game, to re-watch the cutscenes (and then there are, of course, the ever-important archive items).
*Prepares self for a massive Siren-fest sometime soon*
I also recently watched Frost And Pegg's Perfect Night In, which was longer than I thought, so I'm pretty frelling tired right now. XD
On a different note, we noticed this morning that the cold tap in our bathroom sink is pretty loose. My dad came round a few hours ago, and I showed him the problem - he said he'd look for his spanner at his house and deliver it on Friday. Whoo.
Oh yeah, and I do recall what I was going to say in my previous entry - I recently re-vamped my user info slightly. Hopefully it no longer makes me sound quite like a pretentious wankhead. XD
The package from Amazon arrived today. Whee. ^_^ I've been flipping through the Ju-On books and the ferret book, I must sit down and read them properly sometime.
The RE 4 controller is fucking AWESOME. It's a lot bigger than I was expecting it to be, and it comes in a sexy display case. That's so going on display next to our Onimusha 3 sword controller. XD WE IS NERDS, YES. ^_^
Last night, me and Euan sat down and watched Gorgeous - a very entertaining, very amusing and very cute film. Jackie Chan is still awesome, and after watching the film I am further convinced that Qi Shu is one of the cutest people on the planet. The woman is adorable, I swear to god.
Beforehand, we were watching this BBC3 programme, My Penis and Everybody Else's - the title alone is reason enough to watch it. *snicker* It was pretty interesting - I've never really thought about it before, but it is true: It is strangely taboo in our society for blokes to talk about their cocks. It was also pretty damn funny in places - when he was walking around London with a sign attached to him that read "I WANT TO TALK ABOUT PENISES"? Fucking brilliant. XD He must have some serious balls to go out and do that. XD
During the programme, however, I happened to glance at the floor and shriek upon noticing an enormous hairy spider crawling across the floor. After a little bit of difficulty, Euan managed to catch it in the bug-catcher, took it out into the garden and threw it over the wall. *shudders* Gaaaaaahhh. I promptly darted upstairs and closed the bedroom windows after that. XD
I'm going to be working tomorrow/later (as I type this, it has gone past midnight), as I decided to swap my day off.
I was going to talk/rant about tonight's shift at the supermarket, but I'll do that later when I'm not feeling quite so tired.
I'm worried that I'm coming down with a cold. My throat's been feeling weird for hours.
Why is it always that, whenever I'm having a dream and I'm just on the verge of finding something out, no matter how trivial, I get woken up?
Now I'll never find out where the goats are kept.
......Don't ask. Please, don't ask. XD
Work threatened to be incredibly boring & annoying today. I spent my entire shift facing the shelves up, before shifting a large amount of heavy cages (one of which was piled high with large paint pots, boxes of car products and fucking bags of sand O_o), and then splitting the delivery. I had a small asthma attack and felt dizzy after moving all the cages, so I had to go upstairs, take my inhaler, have a drink & sit down for a few minutes before moving on to the delivery sorting.
Fortunately, I was doing the latter with Ethna, who I get on with reasonably well, so at least I had someone to natter to. :) Made the time go by quite fast.
Ooh, Lilith episode of Frasier on TV. :D
Feeling: chipper
Listening to:Silent Hill 3 - Dance With Night Wind
Heh. I just won an eBay auction for some Lara Croft deodorant, shower gel & a keyring. *is a huge dork*
19.3% of the Silent Hill movie is currently downloaded. Man, this thing is taking forever. (Unsurprisingly.) XD
Euan & I heard Super Mario Bros. 3 music on a special episode of Takeshi's Castle the other day. Win. :D
Small customer rant: No, I do not know if we have any more marshmallows in stock. I cannot go and look, for I do not work in that department, thus a) I am technically not allowed to go rumaging around in the food warehouse, and b) even if I was, then it would be a waste of both my time and yours because I wouldn't have a clue where to start looking. I would appreciate it if you would kindly stop staring at me with this gormless expression on your face as your brain desperately tries to process this information. Plus - I am holding a tube of sodding face wash in my hands, for crying out loud. Does it really seem likely that I work with food? I think not. Go and ask someone who works on food and stop bothering me, thanks.
Ahem. Sorry, but it really gets on my nerves that I can't even leave my department to go and print new product labels without being ambushed by customers who ask me questions regarding the departments that I do not work on. Gah.
I've been so bored this evening/morning. Meh.
Listening to:Lose Control - Missy Elliott, Ciara & Fatman Scoop
I just read a review of Tomb Raider: Legend. I really shouldn't have, because reviews by games magazines are always guaranteed to piss me off, positive review or negative review - I just hate gaming magazines in general. They all seem to be run by complete pricks who believe that their word is final, and those who disagree with their reviews are mocked and bashed childishly. This is why I also dislike the vast majority of other gamers.
In the game's defence, though - and I have said this before - the gameplay does look awesome, and the graphics are incredibly gorgeous. The game will probably surpass the other installments in terms of gameplay, and I am looking forward to that.
Story-wise, however, it's too much like a bad fanfic. XD
But, yeah, on a more mellow note, I have pretty much accepted that Eidos and Crystal Dynamics have completely messed up the story. But that doesn't mean I have to like it. The reason it bugs me so much is because of the blatant continuity errors, and the fact that they've turned one of my all-time favourite gaming characters into a bint. I absolutely hate it when developers/directors/writers/etc. fuck around with the plot of anything. Yes, it's their decision to make, but, in my opinion, effectively denying that everything prior to the story changes ever happened is a step too far.
I will play the game for the gameplay - heck, that's what games are all about, really. But, with games, the story is also important to me. Which is another reason why I'm so deeply disappointed.
Okay. Rant over.
In other news, there's a programme on TV called......... wait for it..... Sex Sexy. O_o Bad title. Bad, baaaaaaaaaaad title. No prizes for guessing the theme of that particular show. XD
I watched The Eye earlier - great film. ^__^ Beautifully shot & atmospheric, with a decent balance of creepiness & emotion. I also love the clever little "blink-and-you'll-miss-them" moments, such as the scene on the train (see the content below the LJ-cut for more).
I do have a few minor complaints. The first is the blatantly CGI purple tongue in the restaurant scene. The other is the fact that, at least one part of the film, it was a little bit predictable. (I won't mention them here due to the spoilerific nature of them - again, look below the LJ-cut.)
I also felt that the romantic subplot was a little rushed. Dr. Wah & Mun barely seemed to know each other that well up to the point when the former admits his feelings towards the latter. It was a sweet subplot, but it could have been developed a bit better.
But, like I said, these are only very minor complaints.
On a different note, I just read some moron's opinion on Sugar Rush. They completely bashed the show, claiming that "It will influence kids to go out and steal, smoke, get drunk, do drugs and have sex like OMG!". Um, two things. 1: Certain media does not make "impressionable youths" want to go and do stupid things. If they do those things, chances are it's because they're stupid enough to do it in the first place, not because the television told them to do it. XD 2: In case you haven't noticed, hundreds of children under the age of 15 are having reckless sex, smoking like chimneys, binge drinking, doing drugs & shoplifting. It's a sad fact, but it happens all the freakin' time. So often, in fact, it rarely seems to shock anyone anymore. The show is a realistic portrayal of what some juvenile delinquents get up to, even if these activities play second fiddle to the "lesbian love & lust" plot.
This person also stated that one of the reasons they disliked it was because "Sugar is sooooo ugly!". Oh, right. Finding one of the lead characters/actresses unattractive is such a valid reason for disliking something. *End sarcasm* That, and it's downright insulting to Sugar's actress, Lenora Critchlow. Don't these people have anything better to do than take swipes at someone because of the way they look. Anyway, I personally think that Sugar is pretty gorgeous, but that's just my opinion.
That's handy! :) I just signed up a few minutes ago. Here. Nothing's on there yet, but hey. (And no, I couldn't think of a different username, so I just went with one of my usuals...)
