North Salt Lake Three Kings Bicycle Race

North Salt Lake has a fantastic bike race for the mentally insane. On Saturday 6/25, 40+ bicyclists took to the east bench of NSL to race the Three Kings. 3K races up a series of hills through grades that are between 12 and 20%. This year I was invited to fly circles around the cyclists and snap some pictures in a helicopter. Fantastic!

Although we made the neighbors (and the golfers) cranky, it was a well-organized event and a great race.

Rock Star

Our good friends the Jensens have a drum set fully deployed in their house. Mary and I popped by on Friday bringing the two younger ones with us. After a few lessons from his not-quite-three-years-old friend, Thomas overcame his initial nervousness and laid down a few beats.

Tug-A-Bug

Mary expressed an interest in doing this blog post as she was the photographer of the following pictures. I've given her 36 hours to complete it, and it's still not done.

I am stealing the post.

Many different societies mark the passage from boy to man with some type of a ritual. While there isn't a magic age when childish things are put away (at least I hope there isn't or it's at least in your mid 70s) growth encourages increased opportunities to develop abilities. Steven was recently called to be Deacon's Quorum President in our ward. We are very proud of him, and we are excited to see him grow in this calling.

One of the traditions in the Wolford house is marking the passage from toddler to child. With our older children we marked this day when their feet began to hang off the end of the toddler bed or the bed broke. Either one counted.

With our younger kids it was the day that they could hang on to the tug-a-bug bicycle without falling off or crying. With the arrival of Mimi, we thought maybe that day had arrived for Thomas.

We. Were. Wrong.

After a few trips back-and-forth in front of the house, Thomas, in a teary voice, announced that he was getting off. Quick application of the brakes ensured that he did so only after the ride came to a complete stop.

We'll try again in a few weeks. . . .

. . . then maybe we can get him to mow the lawn and take the garbage out to the curb.

Logan Wedding

So Saturday Patti invited me to accompany her to a wedding. I thought that she was hoping that my expertise as a photographer would contribute to the happy couple's wedding day. Mostly she just needed me to haul her bag around and block the sunlight with her light disc.

Undeterred by her lack of faith in my mediocrity, I still snapped a few pics. I even got some great shots of Patti in action.

Patti really is fun to watch. She is an excellent crowd manager, and even though five months pregnant (I hope that's not a secret) she still found herself crawling around in the grass to get "just the right shot"

I'm only adding this one because the paint crew in Logan City wins the "not my job" award for painting all the sticks in the gutter on the north side of the temple.
