Mash-up

Before going to sleep tonight, Ada sang a mash-up of "Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer" and "Hush Little Baby." Pretty fun to hear.

Matching!

Bit of a diaper leak a few weeks ago at Costco, and we somehow didn't have any spare pants in the diaper bag for Seth. So, he got to wear the pair we had for Ada, resulting in near-matching outfits: Other than the length, they can (and not too infrequently do) share pants. 

I went bowling!!

About a week ago we all went dinner and bowling with the Adamis. Roger was both Ty's and my manager at Marina for a while, and he has also moved his family down to San Diego for work. Dinner was a little rough, great food and right by the bowling alley, but it was too loud for our kids, and they have trouble sitting through dinner anyway. The bowling place we went was great for kids though, it had bumper rails that went up when it was one of the kid's turns. Plus it wasn't crowded so we got right in and we got an end lane so we could minimize our oblivious kids walking in front of others.

Seth couldn't quite bowl yet, so he kept score. I tried to get him to cheat a little for me but he held firm with my loss.

Thanksgiving 2015 in Utah

We were lucky enough to have a couple of extra days to spend (driving and) hanging out with the family over Thanksgiving. It was great to see everyone, but hard to spend much down time because of all the craziness from Black Friday at Wood Creations. We had a great and tiring time as usual, and the kids got some quality Cousin, Aunt, Uncle, and Grandma and Grandpa time.

On our way to Utah, we took a detour through Valley of Fire state park. It looks like we are all squinting from the sun in our eyes, but it was mostly due to the 3 lbs of sand embedded there. High winds made it a little more difficult to enjoy the scenery. 

If you use your imagination you can see the petroglyphs in the background of this picture. The rocks were covered with them. Being products of an age of skepticism (thanks internet), however, made us doubt the authenticity/ancient nature of some of the works.

Seth is ready to walk, but for some reason the soft sand was not a really good training ground. Luckily Mama was there to make sure he still had fun scrambling around.

Despite the park's best effort to leave us a parting gift, we decided to leave the sand close to where we picked it up. Apparently, mesh shoes are not the best hiking wear for sand dunes.

Pack it in, pack it out.

Under Grandma's supervision, Ada took care of pushing Seth on the swing set. The kids love playing in Grandma and Grandpa's back yard, also...Grandma is crazy; she was out there for almost an hour in bare feet. It was much too cold for our family's San Diego conditioned bodies to hang out long without warm clothes. 

For some reason, Seth was fascinated by the door to the little playhouse. At one point he spent about a half hour just opening and closing it and generally hanging on it.

Veggie Turkey as inspired by last years work by Megan. We had hoped everyone would have a chance to admire our work, but Scott didn't quite recognize it as a Turkey and immediately pulled the head off and took a big chomp. We barely had time to stop him from eating the toothpick that we had used to secure the Turkey's eyes to its head.

Rachel had some small red bumps that we noticed a few days before the trip. We brushed it off as bug bites from a very aggressive (or group of) bug(s). It ended up getting a little worse on the trip, and when Grandma saw it she recognized it as shingles. Needless to say, the trip to the urgent care after a day of anticipation for a diagnosis was not the highlight of Rachel's trip. Luckily, it was a mild case that cleared up very quickly. And it seems like she managed not to transfer chicken pox to Seth...almost in the clear.

Ada's first real haircut! She actually enjoyed it and still talks about the apron and the "pssshh, pssshh, pssshh to make the chair go up." It might have been easier because of Auri bravely going first.

Best cousins forever...or at least until they wanted the same toy.

In our totally objective opinions, Seth is a very handsome cute little guy.

Rylea and Seth seemed to get along pretty well. It was probably nice for them to have a peer in the sea of giant beings that make up the Goodman/Hadlock cousin crew.

As usual, the kids play hard and then crash hard. They had plenty of time to catch up on sleep during the long car ride home.

Happy Halloween!

A little out of order, I try to stay chronological regardless of how behind I get. Seth's 9 month appointment was after Halloween. Oh well. 

Gladys is always great about celebrating holidays and birthdays, and this time it's Halloween! She bought little pumpkins for them to paint, but drew on the face for them. Ada is getting a lot better at staying in the lines. I guess we should get some coloring books for her instead of just white paper.

On Halloween, we took Ada trick or treating for the first time. We went with Shawna and Ryan to some friends down the road in a cul de sac, so we could go around to just a few houses. Ada did surprisingly well, I guess because we were with a bunch of kids she wasn't scared to go up to houses. And she forgot about the bag of candy immediately.

9 months

Seth weighed 18 lbs 14.5 oz (37%) and was 27.75 inches long (25%) though I don't believe this one since he has definitely grown and has been tracking slightly above average in height (he was 27" at 6 months). 18.5" head (94%). He can crawl fast, cruise, squat to pick stuff up, stand without assistance, walk with help, and say mamamam and bababa. Still wakes up a few times a night. He has 4 teeth and shows us them in his smiles a lot!
