Happy Birthday Bubby!!!

Today marked the day that Jon was born many many years ago * I shall not disclose, for it'll serve as a reminder that he's getting old * Hehehehe... He decided to pull a sickie and not go to work today, so that he could just relax and enjoy his day... though he claims that he doesn't feel quite right.

"I'm feeling NQR" - not quite right.

Anyways, his family decided to celebrate his birthday in advance over the weekend... Jon didn't wanna have an elaborate celebration, so we just decided to have the tradition longevity noodle at his mom and dad's...

We had tea after dessert... and had a good time, laughing at everybody's lame jokes.... We also watched a DVD of one of Aunty & Uncle's holidays in Dubai. He got a few interesting birthday gifts :) A Georg Jensen designer bottle opener, Ted Baker's shirt... cordless electric drill, an interesting book... and a watch and pj's from Peter Alexander from yours truly... just to name a few :) The watch needs a little adjusting... but I think he likes the gifts!

It was just a chilled night in, but it was good... for everyone had a good time. I think it's been awhile that everyone gathered at his mom and dad's since Jon and Tish moved out...

Well bubs, you're a year older now, and perhaps a little wiser too. May this year be a great one for you... May you have all good things come your way. Here's wishing you good health, wealth, happiness... and most importantly... love.

The Lunar New Year :D

This year, I ushered the lunar new year in a slightly different way... Usually, I'd either be back in KL with my family, or be miserable here in Melbourne, cause classes would have commenced... and I'll have no chance of celebrating Chinese New Year. But this year, it was different, cause Jon's aunt extended an invitation, to have dinner at their place.

I guess I did feel slightly pressured initially... having to meet the whole of his extended family, and be courteous, not to offend anyone...etc :) But it turned out alrite I guess... cause everyone's really nice... and I've met alot of the cousins previously, so it wasn't too bad. PLUS, the food was yummy too! Aunty Choo cooked lotsa Malaysian dishes... which reminded me of home a little...

"Dinner" lasted till about midnite. We passed Box HIll on the way back from Greensborough... and decided to stop by to have a "look-see" cause there were lotsa people around... They even blocked off the roads and there were policemen around everywhere....

There were stalls, selling delicacies, to random stuff... lion dances, stage performances... AND....

Bumped into Tony and Al there too. They wanted to go on the Zipper ride, but Jon was being a spoil sport. But oh well, his folks would have been bored if we went on the ride without them.... and I doubt they'd wanna go on that ride! hahahaha... It spins and turns and stuff! Looks quite exciting! But it creeks a little too... so I wasn't too thrilled to go on it myself.

I tried ringing Ade to let her know that I was around Box Hill, but I guess it was too noisy at the funfair, and she couldn't hear her phone. But we bumped into each other anyhow! Hehehe. Uncle Peter said, it was as if we were having a medical convention there! With all the med people around! :) Well, it was good seeing everyone again! Haven't seen many of them in awhile, except for Ade, whom I still keep in touch with, every week.. Hehehe.

Then we walked around, looking at the stalls, checking out yummy food. But the night was too hot, that we weren't really interested to have anything to eat, except for..... GELATI!!! :) I had gelati in a cup, while Jon'a folks shared a cone :) How romantic! They're quite a cute couple, really...

As we were strolling, there were people around, giving out jossticks!! I just thought it was rather strange.


Everyone can pray at this 'portable' altar. There were many praying for prosperity, good health, luck, fortune and happiness... Box Hill area was filled with people last night... It's as if the whole Chinese community were out yesterday. Hehehehe...

Well, like I said... my new year celebration this year, is slightly different... but none the less, it was still good ;) The only thing that's missing... is the usual "big" angpow collection!

Of everything Malaysian...

Somehow, when I woke up today, something felt different.... I thought of what my family was doing at home... how they're preparing for Chinese New Year *although I know they never do* It's the same every year. Maybe it's because my family ain't traditional, and they don't like decorating their home with a bunch of red stuff... but something about this festive season reminds me... of home...

I know I'll miss grandma's specialty dishes this CNY. I know I'll miss playing card games and mahjong with the little cousins.. *no, we don't gamble with money* it's more with peanuts and sunflower seeds :) Hehehehe... and of course, I'll miss just being with my family...

Speaking of feeling Malaysian, a few of us went to Box Hill the other day, to have Kayu Nasi Kandar. :) Yes, they've got a franchise here, all the way across the continent... in Melbourne.

I remember when my family used to go to Cheow Yang, to this tiny stall, to have nasi kandar... cause dad likes it. Now, the stall has evolved into a double shop lot, with air conditioning and all... AND they've got branches everywhere now. How times have changed....

I remember the pasar malam days, with my mates during our college days... where we'll just walk around, and buy take-away food... and just eat along the way. Then we'll catch up again in front of Cheow Yang restaurant when we're all done :) Memories.... We practically did everything together those days... except for studying... hehehehe. Those were the days!

Was your V Day a happy one???

Howdy everyone!!!

I know it's kinda late now, but how did you guys celebrate Valentine's day?? I hope everyone had a good time, whether you're single, or half of a couple... whether you had a lavish night out... or just chillin' at home, watching tele... or reading a good book :)

Because Valentine's Day was right smack in the middle of the week... we were not gonna do anything extravagant... for we've got to go to work early the next morning... However... Jon was being cheeky... and absolutely adorable when he surprised me with a gift! Initially, we have agreed not to get each other anything... for we're both broke... and really, Valentine's Day is just another day hyped up, so that florists can make money...


I was caught by surprise when I saw this little bling on the car seat... Four tiny hearts, beautifully wound together into a clover shape...

I was really touched... but at the same time, I felt really bad... cause I didn't get him anything :( Oh well... tender loving care will have to do huh?? But we did go out for a simple Korean dinner :) which was quite yummy... Hehehe...

My first paycheck :)

Alot has happened since the accident. I feel like a little girl again, having to depend on others for a ride to the hospital, and back. I must be like the only doctor that gets driven around :( Sighh... It's not a good feeling, but I don't quite have a choice, until I get a replacement car. Jon's dad, Uncle Peter has been a total gem, driving me to and fro...

I've been working for a couple of weeks now, and I just got my first paycheck sometime last week. So I decided to treat the little angels that have been around me during my time of need. Jon for being so patient and caring the whole time. Ade for accompanying me the whole time, and driving me around, and of course, Uncle Peter for going that extra mile for me. Thank you all!!!

I decided to invite them for yumcha at Sharkfin Burwood last Sunday :) I know that I'm broke from the accident, having to pay for insurance, medical checkup, traffic infringement fine, ambo etc... but I guess, it's only right that I showed my appreciation for those who's been there for me.... through good and bad times.

I kinda wish that my family's here to share my first paycheck too... Not that it's anything big, but it's just the thought that counts I guess... even if it's a small little meal... just to let them know that I've not forgotten about them... and that they'll always be loved. For without them, I won't be the person I am today... with that title in front of my name.

Angus & Hann's Housewarming

The meds met up again last weekend, after receiving an email from Angus the other day. It was an invitation to their housewarming party, but the funny part was.... we were forewarned that they have got no fridge, no chairs, no what-so-ever in their new place. Heehehe... BUT they've got a nice apartment in Southbank now :)

Anyways, we decided to show up, and catch up with the others since everyone's been busy with work since we started... We bought them a set of coasters, and a serving bowl :) Anna bought them a fancy grater, and Eric and Cheryl got them a dustbuster. Hehehe. So yeah, they got a number of items for the house. Too bad nobody bought you guys chairs huh? Tee hee hee...

After dinner, Richard took out his poker set, and we started playing poker.

We were winning initially, but decided to go all out during our last game before we left.... and ended up getting burnt! We lost everything!!! But doesn't matter.... since we were leaving anyway. :) And of course, we were not betting with real money :)

It was good just chiling and catching up with friends. I'm really not up to partying and having late nights out anymore. Perhaps I'm just getting abit too late for the clubbing scene. I dunno... I had fun that night :)

Long lost...

Dear all, sorry for I haven't blogged in awhile. It's just that alot has happened within this past week, and not all of them, bloggable. But thanks to everyone who asked about me... I'm ok. It's just that I was involved in a very bad car accident, and my brand new car has been written off. Luckily, the insurance company is replacing a new car for me.

I'm terribly lucky to be alive, and whatmore, sitting here blogging about it. God has certainly been very kind to me. I'm still very much physically bruised though. I look as if I'm a victim of domestic violence. Hehehe. My neck and chest are bruised, and so are my legs. The bruises around my pelvis are gone though... and my neck doesn't hurt as much anymore.

Jon's dad has been such an angel this whole time, driving me to work, and back till I get my replacement car. Thanks, Uncle Peter!!!

As for work, it's been real busy... but really good. I've been assisting in both adult and paediatrics surgeries, and even drained my first ever breast abscess the other day. Suturing up is now a routine, and I'm slowly getting used to doses of common medications, making decisions... etc. This week has been a busy one... with me doing overtime on Tuesday, Thursday... and my usual long evening shift on Friday. But I've been seeing quite a number of interesting things in ED, while doing admissions. We reduced one of the biggest rectal prolapse I've ever seen yesterday~~ TWICE~!

You know that you're committed to work, when you automatically wake up around 5.30am everyday, wondering whether your patients are okay, even if you're not rostered to work. I did that today... and went back to sleep till 10ish today. Man, how I appreciate days off now! Unlike before, where you can just not rock up for class, and nobody cares... but now, you're responsible for your patients... and you're gonna be the only one in the ward, because your registrar is always in theatre with the consultant.

Oh well, enough of rambling about work...
