last day for Ica.

The sun is out today, and it is hot. My 2 guys are in the pool here. We had breakfast at an outdoor cafe, and I had a banana crepe. I also bought a bracelet and some earrings for 8 dollars, and Roger bought himself a bracelet also. We are staying in the middle of an oasis here. I have never seen anything like it in my life. My 2 guys attempted to hike a sand dune, then came down quickly. I played it smart and stayed here. We saw some Peruvian Dancers out, celebrating the day. Roger took a short film of them. I think our bed has bedbugs, yikes! The water here is terribly smelly, we keep the toilet lid closed until absolutely necessary.

Peru, Wednesday

Today was full of adventures. We went into town, then visited a museum that had a lot of old peruvian relics. It was funny, the lady kept saying that things were made from "human bone" in broken english. Then back to town, looking at the markets. We ate lunch at a little cafe, I got a stuffed avacado for 3 dollars. I am quickly becoming addicted to Icka Cola, the sugary drink everyone drinks here, that tastes like bubble gum. Tonight being Xmas Eve, everyone around was partying until the wee hours. Needless to say, we did not get much sleep. Got my first taste of peruvian ice cream, don't think it will be my last. We are staying at a little hostel which does not have windows we can open at night because it is on the ground floor. The water here stinks terribly; we have to keep the bathroom door closed.

the peru adventure, the bus to Ica

We took a private bus today to Ica, a 6 hour ride. This was really like a first class ride on a plane. We even got served a meal. I was amazed at the poverty on the ride , that people actually live this way. This ride pretty much consumed my entire day, as we did not get to our hostel until about 8 pm in Hucachina, it is an oasis in the middle of a desert. We were really famished, so we ate at a little restaurant here. One of Richs peace corps mates is here also with her family. I do not know what is in store for tomorrow!

the peru adventure, day 2

After an early start, we found ourselves in a perilous taxi on the way to the city of Lima. Here we went to Richards home office, and met all of his collegues, and then we walked to his directors house. After a short jaunt, we had lunch at a little cafe. The cafe was quite delightful; it was partially outside, and there were bird cages all around, we had the sounds of canaries and parakeets to eat by. We drank a drink made from blue corn, and I had the peruvian equivalent of the blue plate special. Then off to downtown proper, where we met Richs gf, Martha, and visited 2 cathedrals, one which had catacombs. There are many people begging all around here. We are going to eat supper soon, then we will be off for another adventure tomorrow. Well, we are back from eating dinner, and I had to report that for the first time tonight I ate cows heart.

the peruvian adventure, day 1

Today we got up to a little breakfast the hostel served, tasted very good. Everyone here is very nice and friendly. After breakfast we set out on our adventure walking. First we went to a plaza that had all sorts of cow sculpture, and Roger took some pics here. I saw the Pacific for the first time ever, and even though I was itching to buy something, Rich kept saying no no, that things would be cheaper elsewhere. Our next stop was to exchange our money. I was surprised that we had to take a ticket at the local bank, just like you would if you were in a line someplace. Then we went to a park, where we met up with some of Richs friends, and we went to lunch. I had a hankering for some Peruvian ice cream, which we got at a little stand. Rich had picked up a couple of local fruits along the way, we enjoyed them back at the hostel. I decided I needed a nap after being really whipped from the night before. It was about 6 pm here, and one of the first things I noticed was that it was not even dark, and we all decided that we really wanted supper. Rich said that there was a good little oriental place nearby, which we all 3 ate at for ten dollars. Roger got a little red on his face, because despite the fact that the weather here right now is just right, we are still close to the equator, and those UV rays are quite strong. We came back to the hostel, and Rich went to the movies with his friends. We tried to watch a little TV, finding it not very easy for us. Off to bed for now.

the great peruvian adventure....away we go!

well, we are off to the airport. I had planned on wearing summer clothing, but the weather had different plans. Our takeoff from both ILM 6 AND ATL was uneventful. Our flight from atl lasted a good while, over 6 hours. We were sevred a good meal of chicken and rice, a brownie, a small salad, bread and drink. We also were served a little snack about 3 hours later. Finally at almost midnight, touchdown. We were very excited, then found ourselves slowly winding through an immigration line for an hour, picking up our luggage and going through customs. Then we got to see our Rich at last. He was there as promised with our taxi driver. We went to our hostel, and found our room, which was simple, yet clean. We fell right to sleep being totally worn out.

Is it that time already?

Just 24 days until we go to Peru!!!! Thanksgiving is in 3 days, Robert will be home tomorrow to celebrate the occasion with us. I guess we will all go to Cracker Barrel, since that is the place that is the neutral of restaurants.

Ah, springtime again

Springtime is here again in the port city, everything is being reborn. It reminds me of last year, when we visited Haifa, and all the flowers were blooming there.

new old friends

I have been hooking up with my old new friends on facebook, and am surprised to find out how many of my pals have died. Robert is coming home tonight for Easter weekend, gotta go start supper soon. Got some new yarn in the mail today, plan on making a summer top with it.
