Playing Catch-up

Do you ever feel like you are trying to catch-up and get everything done? I do all the time. My lastest project has been scrapbooking. When I found out I was pregnant, I noticed that Breven's scrapbook was still in the first year. I could not have two baby books in the same place. I have been working to get everything caught up before the new baby comes. I have about two weeks left, and I think I am going to make it. YEAH!! It feels so good to reach a goal.

Sienna Finished Kindergarten

It is strange to believe that my daughter has finished kindergarten.
I can't believe that she is going to first grade.
I taught first grade and I remember how big and independent my students were. Is it possible my Sienna is that old?

She loved kindergarten and she did not want to have the school year end. When we went for the Open House and see all the work, she was calling across the yard to all her friends as we passed by. School is definately a social thing.

Her teacher, Mrs. Hoover, was sweet and kind. She loved her class. The last day, Sienna took Mrs. Hoover a crown that she made out of paper, ribbon and jewels. Mrs. Hoover put it on right away and did not take it off until after we left. Sienna told her that she was a Queen. It was appropriate coming from Sienna because Sienna was the princess fanatic. She wore a princess shirt almost every day, she drew pictures and wrote stories about princesses all year. Everyone knew that Sienna loved princesses. I guess that is the influence of Disneyland.

Three-Year-Olds and Haircuts

Almost to the exact day (3.1 years-old), both my children decided to cut their own hair. When I told my dad, he said, "Oh, we had at least one do it," but that is 1 out of 5--not bad odds. However, I am now 2 for 2 or 100%--not very impressive.
Have I relaxed too much in supervision? Is it because we have a new baby coming and they sense a change? Are they asserting their independence and showing Mom how BIG they really are? I'm still amazed how quickly it all happened, and I'm not sure how he got the haircutting scissors down because they are usually kept on the shelf in the closet. Oh, well--whatever the reason, it is done. Luckily, Breven's hair grows a lot faster than Sienna's. Her hair took a year to grow out, and Breven's should be better in a month. I thought you would enjoy the side-by-side comparison at age three.

Vacuuming Champ

Breven is our vacuuming champ. If I start to vacuum, he will come and insist on taking it from me. Before, he was content with holding on to the vacuum with me, but now he has to do it himself. As I watch him vacuum, I am amazed how thorough a job he does.
If he sees a crumb under the couch, he will bend down pull it out, and vacuum it up. He also pulls feathers and dust balls from under the pedals of the piano. I've even caught him vaccuming the cushions of the couch. There is no such thing as a quick job. If I suggest to put the vacuum away without every crumb picked up, he will protest, "No, mess!!" and point to something he needs to vacuum up. Who says that child labor is a bad thing?
