Bob Meiners

Oh dear, another loved one has died. Bob Meiners died from a fall on Monday, January 19. He was eight-two years old. On Friday Myron and I drove to Rupert with Donis and Coralie.

We stayed at Berkeley and Kelly's house. We enjoyed our visit with Ethel, Lily, Laura, Janice and Sherman who were also staying at Berkeley's house.

Berkeley has a beautiful new home on the Snake River. There are large windows in the family room that open right onto the river. We went the the viewing on Friday evening where we saw many of Bob's family.

On Saturday we went to the funeral. It was interesting that after the funeral we all stayed seated while the military did a flag ceremony and a three gun salute.

At the luncheon we saw Aunt Mary Meiners who is ninty-two years old and gets around just fine. Her daughters JeanAnne and Karen came with her from Lund, Idaho. We also saw Lewis, Joy and Monica. Roscoe, Kathy and two of their sons were also there. Lorna and Craig drove to the funeral on Saturday morning. We drove home with them. It was foggy most of the way, but we made it fine.

My Friend Irene

On Saturday, January 10, my friend Irene Dickson died in her sleep. She had heart problems, but had been to the doctor a few days before and he thought everything was alright. I saw Irene at Ladies Lunch on Friday and she said she was doing fine. It was a shock to loose a dear friend. She was just five months younger than I am.

I was her visiting teacher for several years and her friend for over twenty years. She loved to make dried flower cards. Several times she gave me a set of cards. I even went to her home once and made cards. I had used all of her cards and wanted one to remember her by. Her daughter gave me one while I was helping at the funeral luncheon. We were in Daughters of Utah Pioneers together. I will miss her.

Cinnamon Rolls

On Friday Jacob, Cameron, Josh, Bjorn and Sam came to our house and stayed until Saturday afternoon. We did our favorite activity. We made cinnamon rolls. They had fun playing with the dough, and then we made the rolls. They kept the dough off the floor and out of their mouths. I am not sure how sanitary it was, but no one got sick.

Bjorn said he could eat cinnamon rolls for breakfast, lunch and dinner -- and I think he did. Sam was in the high chair and liked watching the boys. It got hectic at times, especially at bedtime, but we had a good time.

Janessa's Baptism

Janessa was baptized on Jan. 3. She looked so beautiful in her white dress. We are so proud of her. Bjorn was baptized in November, but I didn't get a picture. Janet, how about sending me one?

Mitchell's Farewell

On Sunday, Jan. 11, we went to Mitchell's Missionary Farewell. He gave a really good talk comparing his skiing experiences to preparation for missionary experiences. It was the most we have ever heard Mitchell talk.

Afterward we went to Lorna's house for lunch. Mitchell had over eighty friends his age show up. The food was gone in just a few minutes, but luckily there was enough. I looked into their activity room and there was literally wall to wall and center to center young people. Mitchell may not say much to adults, but he has more friends than anyone. He goes into the MTC on Wednesday. Way to go Mitchell!


Mitchell will be serving in the Los Angles Mission Korean speaking. I think it will be a challenge speaking Korean in Los Angles. It seems like if he spends all that time learning Korean he should at least get to go to Korea. However, he is happy about his call, and I am sure he will be a great missionary especially if he gets to teach the youth.

Elder Nelson

When we came into Sacrament Meeting last Sunday, Dec. 28, we were surprised to see Elder Russell Nelson sitting on the stand next to our Stake President and Bishop. His daughter lives in our Stake, and his grandson and wife moved into our ward last spring.

They just had a new baby. and Elder Nelson was there to assist in the baby blessing. His grandson blessed the baby. Many members of their family were in attendance. Elder Nelson spoke the last ten minutes of the meeting. He spoke about making good resolutions and goals. What a privilege to have an Apostle of the Lord in our meeting.

Aunt Laura

On Dec. 31 I went to Ogden to stay with Aunt Laura for a few hours so Linda and her family could do an activity. My cousin Ellis stopped in to see Aunt Laura,so we visited for awhile. Aunt Laura just slept most of the time I was there. She was able to take herself to the restroom without help, but otherwise was not able to do much. She did not even want to eat lunch. We really never had a conversation. She has gone down a lot since I visited her in September. She is still a dear, sweet lady to me.
