Making Suckers

My girls have learned about the suckers we use to make and sale when I was a child.  My Mom has supplied them with a few to sale at school. Since she lives in Idaho it is hard to replenish their supply.  Last time I saw her, she gave me some molds, flavoring and the recipe so I could make them.  I grew up watching her make them.  My job was to insert the sticks, or put in bags and tape, I never made them.  With her recipe and instructions, I tried them yesterday.  I made Island Punch.

Here are the ingredients in the pan and ready to start cooking.
The molds ready for the pouring.
 We are starting to boil.
 Almost done!
The suckers poured in the molds.  They did a weird thing and made a lot of bubbles when I poured and made them overflow.  I think it was the pan spray I used, it was a cheap kind and from the first time I used it I didn't like it.  I have thrown it away and bought a better kind.
You are suppost to insert the sticks in after you pour them all, but it seemed to set up fast and the begining ones were harder to insert.  I may need to have someone right behind me inserting the sticks.  They turned out good, not perfect.  I tried another batch today that were grape flavor.  I still had the problem with the sticks and they don't seem as smooth as they should be.  I guess practice makes perfect.  I am not going to be able to eat all of them so if you are my neighbor you may end up with some. :)

Tyson's New Head

In December, I was getting things ready for scouts and was about to leave in 20 minutes.  Dawson and his friend came running up the stairs saying that Tyson got hurt and his head was bleeding.  I met him coming up the staris and put a towel on his head.  I wiped up the blood to see what I was dealing with.  He had a deep gash and I knew it was stitches worthy.  I got on the phone and called my assistant for scouts and told her I wasn't going to make it, then called David to tell him I was headed to the doctors office.  I pushed the gash together and stuck a bandaid on it to control the bleeding on the way to the doctor.  David met me there and we both helped to keep him still during the numbing shot and the stitches.  He kept telling us "no"  and to "let go".  I am not sure how many stitches he ended up with.  When we got home I asked Dawson how it had happened.  He said that they were having a pillow fight and using the back of the couch cushions.  He threw a pillow and it hit Tyson and knocked him into the tile around the fireplace.

Lambo

As I am sure everyone know by now, in November David won a Lamborghini.  It was a promotion through Maverik and Team Give.  It was surely a shock when he won.  They gave it away at a BYU Football game.  He was 1 of 10 finalists.  I was not at the game since Piper was only 11 days old and it was a cold night.  I also coudn't have sat that since I was still recovering from the c-section.  He took Shayla and Olivia with him along with two of his friends, LeRoy and Chad.  I had watched the game but they didn't show the halftime coverage.  Soon after, I got a text from David's friend Chad, who was at the game with him.  He told me that David had won.  I didn't believe him, so he called me to tell me it was true.  I got on the phone and called family and friends to tell them he had won.  What a crazy thing to be telling people.  It still didn't seem real to me.  I don't think it was real to me until we received it.
Chad, David and LeRoy the night of the BIG WIN.
We received the car on December 17, 2011.  Maverik threw a party for him at the Maverik in town.  They handed over the keys to him and let him drive it home.
The family in front of the lambo.  I think if we would have standed single file we would have been the length of the car.
David getting ready to drive it for the first time from Maverik to out house.
I got to sit in it for a picture.  I didn't want to try and drive it, too much power or me.  I did enjoy going for a ride around the neighborhood.

It was a great afternoon.  David gave lots of rides to friends and family.  A once in a lifetime chance for many of them.  They evening didn't end well...that is another story.

Piper

Piper Emri Dopp was born on November 1, 2011. She was 6 lbs 12oz. We enjoy having her in our family. She is almost 3 months old. She is smiling alot and we have almost had her laughing. She will stare at us until we look at her, then get a huge smile on her face. She has a strong neck and prefers an upright position to laying down. She looks alot like Shayla to me. All of her brothers love her and are constatnly giving her kisses. Tyson gets worried when she cries and comes over to see what is wrong and if her can fix it. Her sisters love to help out and hold her. It is nice to have that help and it also helps them learn as they approach the babysitting stage. What joy it brings to have a houseful of kids. I love them and am blessed to have been given them.

Wow I am a slacker!

I have checked the blog several times in the past and knew I hadn't updated it in awhile.  I need to be much better at it.  I have several friends who have decided to be better at updating, so I think I am going to do that too.  I enjoy reading other peoples blogs and checking up on their lives, so I hope you enjoy reading mine too.  I don't know if I have enough going on to post daily, but I am going to try at least weekly.

We Are Having....

Yup, we are having a girl!! We are so excited. Since we found out we were expecting, Logan has been telling us that it was a girl baby. Our family will now be even with 3 girls ans 3 boys. The kids like to tell us that it is actually 4 girls and 4 boys when they count us. I am due November 7, but will deliver at 39 weeks. Now it is time to start thinking about names. We have one picked out that we really like. I have been feeling her move for a few weeks, but no one else has been able to feel it yet. I love the first fluttering of movements!

It is NOT FUNNY.....it is OFFENSIVE!!!

I am short, 4 feet 11 inches of shortness to be exact. Along with being short I apparently have a young looking face. Some may think this is a good thing, to look younger than you actually are, but not me. I am constantly being told, I though you were the kid not the Mom. I am 32 years old and have given birth to 5 children, I don't want to be thought of as a teenager! There have been many cases where people have made comments of me looking young. One happened in my first year of marriage(age 20). My husband and I walked into our new ward and was approached by a member of the bishopric, he shook our hands, then asked David if I was his DAUGHTER!! Another, when I was pregnant with my first child (age 21). I was in the Oakland temple at my best friends sealing. A lady leaned over to me and said, if you weren't pregnant, I'd think you were too young to be here. A few years ago I was at the store with my younger sister and the sales associate asked if she was my MOTHER! Neither one of us were sure who was offended more. Just yesterday, I took a neighbor to the store and on the way home we stopped to grab lunch. As the cashier gave us our food she confessed that she thought I was my neighbors daughter. My neighbor is 40. My neighbor thought this was hilarious and said that just made her day. She had plans to go home and call her husband and mother and tell them all about it. I was very offended by the whole thing. That is what got me thinking about this post, I just needed somewhere to vent. So, what should I do to look older? Get an "older" looking hair cut? I have no idea, I just know I am frustrated with being a teenager!!
