This was an exciting weekend for us. I saw Jimmer play (on TV) for the first time ever. Yes, I'm a bit behind the times, but man....he's as good as they say. Other than that, I've been in bed for days with what seems to be the flu. I've averaged about one trip out of my room a day to choke down some food. So when Maren got home from church today and saw me sitting at the table, her eyes lit up and she said, "Mommy! You is not sick!" If only.
Here is a video we took a couple weeks ago of Maren getting all emotionally into her favorite song. This was the tail end of some pretty dramatic dance moves.

Brain Teaser
Last month, I posted the following brain teaser:
A boy started off on his bicycle to visit his friend some distance away, traveling at twelve miles an hour. When he was halfway there, his bicycle got a flat tire, so he pushed his bicycle at four miles an hour for thirty minutes. Then another friend stopped and gave him a ride the rest of the way, traveling at 8 miles an hour. When he arrived, at his friend’s house, he realized that the whole trip had taken him one and a half hours.
How far was the trip?
The answer to the brain teaser is 12 miles. The formula for distance is rate x time. So if "t" equals the time it took the boy to travel the first half of the trip, the distance of the first half is 12t. The distance of the second half of the trip is the sum of the two segments where he pushed his bike and where he got a ride: (4 x 1/2) + (8 x [1-t]). Since the two segments are equal, it's easy to solve for t.
12t = 2 + (8 - 8t)
12t = 10 - 8t
20t = 10
t = 1/2
Thus, the boy traveled a half hour at 12 miles an hour, or six miles, then another half an hour at 4 miles an hour, or two miles, and finally another half an hour at 8 miles an hour, or 4 miles. Thus, the trip was 12 miles.

Bevan's Big Night
Announcing Bevan's mission call--to the California Carlsbad Mission. He'll enter the MTC on May 25, 2011. He'll be teaching the gospel in English. And he'll be driving a Bentley. Congratulations, Bevan, on such a fantastic mission call. Here are a few pictures from the night of the big event.

Happy Sabbath, everyone! We're all home sick with an awful cold we caught from one of our Sunbeams last week. Luckily, my mom was excited to substitute for us....though I'm pretty sure she doesn't know what she's getting into.
Maren just drew a picture that I thought everyone might like to see. It's the first recognizable person we've ever seen from her, but that's not why it's significant. See, the red squiggle is the body--Daddy, specifically. "This is you, Daddy," she said. Then she picked up a new crayon and said, "Your head is green," and drew the circle on top of the red squiggle, followed by the two smaller circles, which she told us were his eyes. Then came the two little green lines at the bottom for legs.
Next she drew the larger ovalish shape directly to the right of the red body. See it? That, she announced, was Daddy's bottom. Note it's size. I can't even imagine how she sees the rest of us if Simon's bum looks that giant to her!

Bevan's Mission Call
Bevan received his mission call today. He is going to Carlsbad California. He reports to the MTC on May 25. He will be speaking English.
