Liek, WHOA. This journal is now Friends Only, folks. Partly because I love the Haruhi Suzumiya pic, partly because, y'know, I don't want randoms reading personal thoughts without my permission. And this journal is probably gonna get pretty ranty. So yeah...comment, if you're not on my friends list already. You can comment if you are too, but I'll ignore you because you're just being silly. XD
The first of these two weekends was the occasion of Mary-Ann's leaving party. In other words, she's gone to Japan now to work (I'm trying so hard not to be jealous, but I'm failing miserably), so the party was going to be the last time any of us would see her for a good few years. The party was really fun though, there were loads of people I'd not seen in ages, and a few I'd not met before, and one that I had met before, but had completely forgotten about =/. I'm not going to describe it in immense detail, but highlights included Astrid and Emelie dancing and singing along to Swedish pop songs, hoover dancing, and an incident involving an aubergine. Use your imagination, people!
( pictarmania highlightsCollapse )
Last weekend was Indie Tracks, at Butterley Train Station, somewhere near Nottingham. We danced to indiepop! On a steam train! And bands played! In the station! Words cannot say how BRILLIANT the whole thing was. We were so twee, drinking hot chocolate whilst watching Slow Down Tallahassee. Damian spent the whole night
I'm paying for all the fun I had now though. I hurt my ankle somewhere along the way, and today when I was walking home from work some woman in her car didn't indicate so I had to stop suddenly. My ankle twinged lots, and now I can barely stand, let alone walk. Boo. So much for the diet (supposedly I started it today). I can't even exercise till my ankle isn't all hurty.
Oh well. Work all this weekend (why do I let myself volunteer for these things?), but next weekend I'm going to the Doctor Who exhibition at MOSI in Manchester. I hope Dalek Sec Hybrid is there! I just want to stand next to a dalek. ^^ And then, at the end of the month...Expo! Amanda Tapping! People! Hooray!
And Hawk And A Hacksaw on Bank Holiday Monday! In a church! In Leeds! :D *dances (well, as much as you can to AHAAH)*

RIP Life On Mars
2006-2007
So....the best programme in recent years is over. And what an ending! I couldn't have picked a better ending myself. I won't spoil it for people on here who haven't seen it yet, but bloody hell. Get your arses to HMV on 16th April and get the box set. Watch it for the rest of your life and know. I hope Ashes To Ashes gets the green light now. If it does, it will be BRILLIANT. DCI Gene Hunt on our screens once again! More John Simm eye candy on my tv screen! Yay!

Yesterday, to forget a certain person's birthday, I went to York. It takes less than an hour to get there on the train (including changing at Leeds), and is cheap. And York is pretty! I did lots of shopping, bought delicious fudge, looked at the minister (outside only, not paying to get in), walked around the city wall, went to the art gallery (where there was a wax model of St. Christopher, who I half expected to open his eyes, he was that realistic)....and then came home and watched Doctor Who (which was ace, I liked Martha, and the Judoon)! All in all, a Good Day.
I like Easter. I get a nice long weekend! No work on Friday, and none on Monday. I am working the whole weekend after, but I get the 20th off, for the purposes of a long weekend in Sheffield, saying bye to Mary-Ann before she goes to Japan (*super jealous*).
I'm also going to a Jeffrey Brown signing in Leeds, and the Doctor Who exhibition at the Manchester Museum of Science and Technology, both in May. And I'm going to the MCM Expo in London at the end of May. May is a month of nerdness. I'm looking forward to it lots.
I need to sort out my Battle Royale school uniform for the expo. Sophie and I are dressing up as BR kids. It's gonna be aces fun. *goes to watch BR again for the 50 millionth time*

* Our Holly turned 17. We went out for a meal at Mex in Wakey. It was lovely.
* I had a PGDE interview at Strathclyde and didn't get on, even though I thought it went quite well. I now think I'm going to drop my application, as there's nowhere else I want to apply to (Edge Hill is full). So come September, I'm applying for JET, so I can go and teach in Japan.
* I went to London for the weekend and had a brilliant time. I went to a free Butcher Boy gig with Rachel and Kevin, and we went to How Does It Feel...?, and Ken and I tried to sing the 'hey's in No Cars Go by the Arcade Fire, without much success. Lots of Word Up was played. I kick ass at Word Up. I saw lots of my friends (no James though, boo) and had a great time. Only time I've had a great time all month.
* I've decided I'm moving to London. Nothing up here for me anymore anyway, no better time like the present. I need a fresh start anyway. I've got enough money to live down there for a couple of months so I've got time to find work. But I'd need to find one sharpish, so I'm applying as we speak for loads of admin jobs with the NHS. I really like working for the NHS.
* I went to the docs again about my anaemia. My doctor (who is fab) doesn't want me to have another blood test till May, when he's going to test me for other stuff too, and then if it's all okay I'll have another test a couple of months after that, and I'll carry on taking my iron tablets in the meantime.
* I got my hair cut today, Amelie style. Holly says I look like Marjorie Dawes from Little Britain. Nice vote of confidence there. I really liked it before she said that, and then that knocked me back a bit, and I'm not so sure. I'm stuck with it now though, and the Marjorie Dawes jokes that I know are coming. Yay...great.
So yeah, with the exception of that weekend in London, this month has been crap (massive understatement there). I think I'm losing it. I had a panic attack at work today. The pressure of all the important phone calls was getting to me. I'm working again tomorrow, which I'm really not looking forward to, but I guess with it being a Saturday morning it should, in theory, be pretty quiet. Plus it's time-and-a-third. Can't complain. I can apply for London jobs and look for a place to live and stuff. I need out of Wakefield, and the sooner, the better.

Ikura, I think you should know that I have no "blingbling" worth stealing. Unless you're after my manga collection, in which case, back off biatch. :P
Annnnnnyway...slightly more relevant crap.
So I've got my PGDE interview at Strathclyde University on Thursday. I'm pretty nervous as usual, but hopefully this time the presentation I have to do will be better than the one I did for my interview at Keele. I think this time since I get to do my presentation on anything I like, it's easier. And I'm using OHPs this time! I'm a proper teacher, me. I'm doing my presentation as a comparison of two of my favourite novels - Koushun Takami's Battle Royale and William Golding Lord of the Flies. The hard part is finding characters in BR that could go along with characters in LotF, especially since the kids in BR don't group up in the way that the kids in LotF do. But it is interesting. And anyway! OHPs! The only thing I'm not looking forward to doing is getting up at 4am. I have to leave the house at half 5, so I want to make sure I've got everything before I go. So I'm purposely having a late night tonight, so I'm tired when we get back from going out for tea tomorrow night (it's my kid sister Holly's 17th birthday tomorrow - bloody hell.) and I can go straight to bed upon returning.
I'm off to London at the weekend, to party at HDIF, in an attempt to take my mind off recent events. It's gonna be fun! Much dancing will occur. Although I'll probably be shattered come 3am since I'll have endured 4 hours of buses, then a free Butcher Boy gig, followed by lots of dancing at HDIF. And then I'll have a night on a floor, and four more hours of buses on Sunday. Still, I'd rather be there than at home. And I love HDIF anyway.
I've just watched Life On Mars. I bloody love Life On Mars. John Simm is hot. I believe this calls for a LoM icon.

Also, today I left my shitty job at a solictors in Leeds. I was only there for 3 days, but it was the worst job I've ever had [apart from being at the Empire for 7 months when I was 15]. My boss was a bastard, and they pretty much left the three of us to do our work without explaining it to us properly. So we were all doing different things, and none of us ever knew who was doing it right. Today was the longest day ever, waiting for it to get to half 12 so Laurie and I could go for lunch, and then pulling faces at each other as we waited for it to get to 5. Laurie's ace, I'm gonna miss her. But yeah, the reason I've left is because Hay rang up about a job with the NHS. I really enjoyed my week of temping the other week, and this one is taking calls from patients who need appointments with nurses on house calls, and making the appointments. I don't mind doing that. It beats listening in on phone conversations about people who can't pay off their debts and are probably going to get CCJs and stuff. It's depressing stuff. I'd rather talk to ill old people than old people who are really upset because they might have to go to court.
This week's episode of Life On Mars has been pushed back to next week because of the football. Surely my weekly John Simm fix is more important than the football?? Grr.
I feel like my userpic.
I love this song. What did you expect, romantic Isle of Wight? ^^
