From Jim's announcement email:
Danica Camryn Ward
Born 9/8/07 at 5:43 p.m.
4 lbs 14 oz.
18 inches long
Well she surprised us by being 5 weeks early! Of course we were fully prepared and had everything exactly ready (um...not really). Danica has good size and vitals considering her coming along a little before we had planned. Deena is doing fine, she's home as of this afternoon. Danica is still in the neo-natal intensive care unit, but she's doing everything on her own (not hooked up to any machines). She had a feeding tube in for about the first 24 hours, but since then she's taken the bottle well. Her breathing has slowed down to a normal rate. They're monitoring her body temperature and her ability to keep her temperature up once she's out of the incubator. The nurses anticipate us being able to have her home within the next couple of days. So we're trying to be hopeful without getting our hopes up too much. That's easier said than done. Most importantly, everything seems to be going fine, so we're most thankful for that. Thanks for all of your well wishes!
Jim & Deena & Danica!

Well, it's official. I have a niece! Danica Camryn Ward. :)
Mom and baby are doing well. Dani's small of course because she's 5 weeks premature. They wanted her to be at least 5 pounds and she was 4 pounds, 14 ounces, which is close. She has good color and everything looks great. The only concern is that her hearbeat is a little fast so they have her in the NICU for monitoring to be on the safe side. They wouldn't let us hold her but eventually they did let us visit and touch her. She's got a full head of hair and her arms and legs are pretty fuzzy. :) She was responsive when I touched her. She curled her fingers when I touched her palm, and she winced and kicked a little when I touched the bottom of her foot. I guess she's ticklish.
We were hoping she'd be born at 6:54 because it would be 9/8/07 6:54 (plus Deena was in room 3, floor 2). She was born at 5:43 instead. Oh well. :)
Because she was so early, Jim & Deena were totally unprepared. As I said, the birthing class was supposed to be tomorrow. None of the baby stuff was even unpacked, let alone assembled. And they don't have the furniture for her room yet! Fortunately they have a cradle though so she'll have somewhere to sleep when she comes home.
I just got home a little while ago. I went home with Jim and helped him open up and assemble stuff they needed right away, take the tags off clothes and stuff and wash them, clean up a bit, stuff like that. He was exhausted and I didn't want him to have to deal with all that by himself. Tomorrow morning I'll call Deena and get a shopping list from her because there are some important things they still need, like bottles.
This is all so exciting! :D

My brother's baby is due October 13th. My sister-in-law was saying just last night that she feels ready to go now. We all figured it was just wishful thinking because she's having a tough time with the pregnancy and wants it to be over with.
I just got a phone call. Her water broke and they're at the hospital now! She's not ready to give birth yet but they expect it will be within the next couple days. :)
They were supposed to take the birthing class this weekend. Oops!
I'm going to be an aunt! I have nieces and a nephew but they're my stepbrothers' kids. This is my brother's baby! :D

We're done for the night. Originally we wanted to block the far end of the building, but there's no way we would have gotten it done by sunset. We decided to set the dumpsters up on the far side of Bunkline's door. The strongest took turns fighting off the zombies while the rest of us moved dumpsters. The longer we went on, the more exhausted we all became. I would have liked to see what's going on in the rest of the building and gather supplies, but we're going to have to wait until the morning because we're completely spent. I don't even have the energy to write the full details of what went on. We lost a couple people. I didn't know them, but it's still pretty upsetting. Right now everyone's sitting around eating frozen pizza and drinking Hawaiian Punch. The sun is going down. Nobody's talking. I keep thinking about my family and friends, hoping they're okay.
