UK, London: Service for LGBT people who have experienced violence [09 Nov 2006|11:34am]

ftmichael
From an e-mail.

Hi,

I wanted to get in touch to let you know about my new post at Galop as the 'dedicated Sexual Abuse Caseworker'.

Galop gives assistance to LGBT victims of hate crime and this new service is specifically set up to provide advice and advocacy to lesbians, gay men, bisexual and Trans people who have experienced sexual abuse in the Greater London area. We are able to help report incidents, whether people have suffered recently or at some point in their past. Help with reporting incidents to the police is a free confidential service and, if they wish, people can remain anonymous.

I also provide advice to victims about steps they can take to safeguard their health; in order to do this, we are working closely with The Havens and make suitable referrals to other LGBT-friendly services as necessary.

I am currently trying to increase awareness of this service throughout LGBT communities and find as much information as possible about the sexual health services available.

If you have any questions about this service or want more information please e-mail me at annie_h_0@yahoo.co.uk.

Kindest Regards,
Annie

(Please let me know if this post is offensive or not allowed and I’ll delete it promptly.)

Hi everyone,

(For anyone who doesn’t know me, I’m an almost 17 year old out lesbian high school student from Sydney, Australia.)Well, this year I’m in my final year of school in Australia and I’m doing my Higher School Certificate (that’s, um, like the equivalent of the final college exams for you Americans and Brits) and one of my courses is 2 Unit Drama. For this I have to present a 6 – 8 minute Individual Performance and I wish to write a piece based on the life of a pre-op transgendered person (at the moment I’m thinking FtM but that may change) to try and challenge myself and raise awareness and acceptance. For this reason I’m asking anyone who is willing to talk to me about their experiences as a transgendered person (FtM, MtF, post-op, pre-op – it doesn’t matter, any help would be invaluable to me) to help me compose my piece. You can email me at silver_qwerty@hotmail.com. Also, any transgendered people in the Sydney, Australia region who are willing to meet up with me, especially FtM, would be absolutely fantastic. Thanks so much guys.

Letters to My Abusers - A Survivor's Project [04 Sep 2006|09:31am]

Letters to My Abusers - A Survivor's Project

I encourage anyone who is willing to get involved in this wonderfully empowering project for survivors. It's a way of taking our lives back one letter at a time, one step at a time. In a way it's like we're confronting those who've hurt us in the most powerful way. Please read this excerpt below from Stephanie Gagos; she's a great advocate and author for survivors of rape, sexual abuse and domestic violence. You can contact her about this project through her web site at http://www.letterstomyabusers.com

"I am inviting those of you who feel you may benefit, to take another step in your healing. For some of you this is just a stepping stone in the process, for others it just might be the first step you take in healing your childhood wounds. (Either way, I urge you to gather support for your journey if you decide to participate) Most of you will never send these letters and the truth is they are not for your abusers, they are really for you. They will allow you put words to your pain and your determination to survive.

Selected letters will be edited and published in a book called Letters to My Abusers: What I Couldn’t Say Then. We hope that both men and women will participate and we are open to accepting letters from teens with parental permission. As of now it is an unpaid assignment but you will receive a contributor’s copy. Part of the proceeds will go to organisations that help survivors of sexual abuse." ~Stephanie Gagos (author)

The Network/La Red hotline number changes today! [01 Aug 2006|12:03pm]

ftmichael
The Network/La Red: Ending abuse in lesbian, bisexual women's and Transgender communities is an organisation that provides free support services to survivors of partner abuse in Massachusetts.

Starting 01 August 2006 they are changing their hotline numbers to 1617 742 4911 for voice, and 1617 227 4911 for TTY. Due to their last office building being turned into luxury condos, they were forced to move, and unfortunately the calling features necessary for the hotline were not transferable to the new location unless they changed their number. The office phone number, mailing address, and web address - http://www.thenetworklared.org/ - will remain the same. If someone calls the old number they will reach a recording instructing them to call the new number.

The Network/La Red answers approximately 150 hotline calls per month and provides free, confidential services including support group, emergency short-term shelter, and advocacy for lesbian, bisexual women, and Transgender survivors of partner abuse. For more information please visit their newly designed and updated website http://www.thenetworklared.org/

Community [28 Apr 2006|01:30am]

flamegirl_kitty
[ mood | tired ]

While reading this community, I noticed that there are many loving and caring people who have been hurt badly in so many different ways. There are many ways that help is available, and I'm hoping that my community can ease some of your demons.

It doesn't say in the userinfo page that I cannot do this, so here I go and I am terribly sorry if this offends anyone. And if it does, the mod can delete this entry immediately.

I created a community a while ago called
</font></a></font></strong></a>attemptfailed: for people who have attempted suicide. It is not a pro- suicide community, but it is one for people to tell their story, get advice, find people to relate to, etc. There is much more about it in the userinfo page, but I thought I'd give a little introduction to the community in case anyone out there is interested.

Take care everyone.

whisper in the void--why are we here? [26 Apr 2006|09:06am]

eriktrips
[ mood | curious ]

not much goes on in here, does it? I imagine us all sitting around waiting for someone else to start a topic or ask a question or seek support or something.

I joined up because there are not a lot of places for trans-identified people to go to talk about various types of abuse. lots of programs for women recovering from sexual abuse, for instance, but nothing for an ftm who was raped as a female child--that's me; and very little in the way of support for emotional abuse incurred in the name of conservative christianity--that's also me; and although incest is common enough, the sort that is perpetrated by older siblings on younger siblings--me--is not the most talked about.

sometimes I would like to find every transsexual who was brought up in a fundie household and who was also sexually abused at some point. I wonder how many of us there would be.

lately it has become clear to me that I may never see my parents again. it's a long painful story of course, as it is for anyone not traditionally gendered, but the short of it is I'm about to get my PhD and they have decided their fears of what I have become since transitioning are too great for them to be able to bring themselves to come to commencement. there's not much worse you can do to stomp all over a relationship than that--maybe leaving someone at the altar would be as hurtful.

anyway it has me brooding a lot over the past and I'd like to know why some others of us are here and what it is we hoped to find here when we signed up. my personal stats are: mid-forties, ftm, began transition nine years ago, teacher, writer, student, recovering fundamentalist and also recovering from near psychotic episode eight years ago. depression is my middle name, although lately I've been feeling pretty good. for abuse suffered, see above.

hi.

newbie avec un question [11 Jul 2005|04:12pm]

fairybluebird
[ mood | anxious ]

hi, i'm a genderqueer trannyboy living in oakland CA.... one of the many!

so my immediate problem that i want to ask people:
i'm on an online meeting of Survivors of Incest Anonymous. a listserv. and it's good and all, but i'm getting fed up because of the whole "only women are abused" vibe that sometimes happens in the survivor world... this idea that women are victims and men are abusers and it's always your dad and you're always a girl and blah blah blah-dee-blah-blah.

mainly, i'm annoyed because some of the women on the list have been, like, addressing everyone as "gals" or talking about "women's and children's concerns" or whatever, and i'm like... there are other guys on there, people have talked about being guys, could we just... not?

the main straw that broke the camel's back though was today when someone was answering a question about whether it was a list for women only because i guess they were a new member and they had only seen people they assumed were women speak so far... which included me come to think of it, but anyway. and someone replied and very nicely said that there are guys on there and that she loves hearing from the guys and it helps her to know how universal this is or SOMEthing, and how there's also this person named Dani (that would be me) who's "a transgender" and has great recovery or whatever.

i'm like... a transgender? i am not "a" fucking "transgender."

a friend of mine was comparing it to when people talk about "the blacks" or "the gays." "a gay." whatever. it's just annoying and awkward, and also, it's not how i would have described myself in that context.

i probably want to say something in response to it, but also i just want to start an online SIA meeting that's ... whatever. This is my problem: I can't decide whether I want to start a boys' meeting (which would include anyone who self-identified that way in any way) or a meeting for trans folks (of any kind, blah blah self-id ditto). I initially thought boys, but then I had this vision of how equally awkward it could be to talk about my female past in that context and how maybe it would just be letting myself in for the same basic assumptions. and i realized that my image of the people i want to talk to about this stuff, if male, is mostly trannyboys of whatever kind.

so i don't know. I guess partly I'm trying to see if anyone else in the world would be interested in such a list. the one that currently exists (the gender-irrelevant one) is mostly chit-chat and people sharing their experiences and cheering each other on, and also being like "how the fuck do i deal with it?" "well here's how i've dealt with it!" it's pretty good. it's a little high-traffic and gender-normative for me, is all.

also, i'm not a big fan of gender-specific spaces in general. i mean, for myself. so the whole idea confuses me in general. i'm like "that's it! I'm starting my own meeting! Wait... for who?"

there was something else i was going to say about it, and now i don't remember what. that it doesn't have trigger warnings, i think. that being generally a big factor in abuse-related communities online, although not this one, right? i hate trigger warnings :)

i guess i'm leaning toward a trans meeting. the main question: a listserv for trans and other gender-whatevery survivors of any sort of childhood sexual abuse, to talk about our experiences and to recover from them. would anyone want to join it?

but any responses anyone has to any of this are welcome....

London Bombing [08 Jul 2005|12:56am]

linkey
Even tho I am living in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. I still feel sad for those people in London who have lost their lives and for those who are seriously injured and being in the affected area.

I am a emergency service volunteer and I can say that the work done by the Emergency Services both Trained and Untrained have done at this type of attack is is really great, it just shows that no matter what heppens the network between all of the services were able to work and try to save many lives.

The attack was done by those who want to take lives and don't care of the terror they try to release to the whole world, well I think the London Mayor said this "They have failed to stop us from living in Freedom and will never stop us living in a town that people wants to build their future"

Tony Blair and George W Bush, even tho many people hate them for their ideas and actions in the past, but I think they have done something to assure everyone that terrorism will not bring us down.

To those family members that may be affected in this sad day I send my prayers to you all.

Hi! My name is Brittany, and I am an abuse survivor. I wanted to ask
you something about your community. Since I'm not a member or looking
to join any new survivor communities, right now, I just figured I'd
email you.

My boyfriend is a supporter of mine, and has been such a huge part of
my healing. He has made his own community for supporters of survivors.
It's just starting, so nothing huge yet, but I am hoping it will swell
up soon! :-) I am not in it, since survivors cannot join, but I try
and promote and do what I can. That's why I'm emailing you. I was
wondering if you could promote within your community, or maybe even on
your user info page if you want.

The community link is:
http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=_supporters_ I have a
graphic that contains a link if you want, and there is a graphic
without a link on the community info page.

If you can't promote it, no offence will be taken! :-) I'm just trying
to make it so our supporters have a place like we have, ya know? :-)
Thanks for your time, and stay safe! -Brittany (magic730dreams on LJ)

Tears Of A Waterfall [27 Nov 2004|01:04pm]

linkey
This post is a something that has been hard for me in my life of being abused by my father, and what I write here is something that's strong that I am finally going to seek closure and peace.

( Tears of A WaterfallCollapse )
Anyway.....

Recently in the past 24 hrs has caused this tears of a waterfall, I cauhgt up with my Aunty Irene who I haven't seen in over a year and it was something that I will never forget.

The love that she has for not just for me but to my brother and sister as well and it was great to see her again. I have told my Aunty what had happened and I was in tears cause it has been so painful of losing contact with my extended family, but we have grown older and we need to be strong.

I told my Aunty about my transition (after all my friend told her first) my Aunty wasn't happy that I didn't tell her first but has said that her family will be very supportive to me and that is something that I loved the most to hear. I got told to call my Aunty Pam who lives in Werribee, and so recently I did. Again in tears cause I felt so bad for not being in contact with her and I missed them so much.

But I know that I have 2 extended family members who are loving and supportive of what is happening to me, I wished I never had this pain of guilt cause of my abuse when I was a child, but now is time to seek closure and I now know I have a family who cares about me.

Greetings everyone,

it has been a while and things are busy for most of us. I know I am busy in hte organising of Trangendered Rememberance of the Fallen on the 20th November in which my church is doing the service on the next day.

alot of these trans-friends and family have been killed or had to resort to suicide cause the pressure that was getting to them or they became a victim to this world society. Lest we remember them and their death will not die in vain but to keep us fighting for rights and to stop this abuse from every trans-phobic person.
