Yeah, I can't play the game, for some reason, I just download it to test it out.

When I press PLAY opens a blackscreen with that msg in a windows and the song running at the background. When I press OK the game closes and that's it.

Hey, there!
Thanks for reporting that!

Generally this problem appears with all laptops + NVIDIA cards, that are following few basic patterns:
1) Don't have laptop connected to AC.
2) Have power saving mode enabled.
3) Have Battery Boost enabled in NVIDIA GeForce Experience.

It's a common issue that is happening with all NVIDIA mobile cards, and should be recreatable with any game on UE4.
The main problem is that any kind of power saving mode is treated by UE4 as an obstruction of some sort, and generally causes errors.
We also experienced this, as had few team members using mobile graphic cards.

Please, make sure that you plug your laptop into the power, and disable any power saving mode.

Wait... Shouldn't you fix this issue to allow us to play the game instead of us changing settings to play your game?

This is a well known issue related to NVIDIA, experienced with multitude of game titles.
As this is hardware related issue, unfortunately there is not much we can do.

So... To play it I should plug my Laptop into the power... plug and unable power saving?

Well that's funny. I plug my laptop into power, full 100% battery. I disabled the Laptop's power saving mode, and I had to look up "Nvidia control panel" , looked at the global settings, and on the options for power saving, I chose "Prefer Maximum Performance" which is described to possibly increase power consumption.

I still can't play the game.

Here's what happens : I click play. it says I need to install Microsoft C++ something, I say ok. Appears a window about UE4 Prerequisites (I assume it stands for Unreal Engine). yes, agree, etc...

And once it's done, the window closes.
My steam library that shows "Backbone: Prologue - Running" suddenly changes into "Backbone: Prologue" and that's it. The game just stops running.

When I try again NOW, same prompt, "this game requires Microsoft C++" or something ,okay, but then, UE4Window for uninstalling.

... I'm no tech-savvy, but I don't think Uninstalling would solve the problem.. I hope the full game won't give me the same issues, because the demo doesn't even open a game window for me. Just windows of prompts and installs.

I was so waiting for this game, and then this... It's like waiting for a girl and then she kicks you in the balls...

Yes, in short this is what seems to resolve this issue for different UE4 games.

Let's try few things:
1) Connect laptop to power.
2) Disable power saving mode in your Windows settings.
3) Disable Battery Boost in NVIDIA GeForce Experience.

If after that the game does not launch, try this:
4) Go into the Nvidia Control Panel and set it to use your Nvidia GPU only.
By default it will try to switch between using the integrated Intel GPU and the Nvidia GPU, but that can cause some issues because Windows isn't very good at it, so it's best to just force it to use the Nvidia GPU always.
Instead of assigning a GPU specifically for a program you need to set it to use the Nvidia GPU for everything, there's an option at the top where you can do that.

In short a lot of laptops do this:
If you have an additional GPU like the Nvidia GPU then they try to use it in a way that saves power--basically if it thinks that a program can run on the Intel GPU then it wants to use that and it will use less electricity (making your battery last longer and your computer not heat up so much). But, like I said, it does a poor job of assigning which GPU to use, and to avoid any possible issues it's better to just have it use the Nvidia GPU exclusively.

If that does not solve it AND you have Direct X 12:
5) Make a shortcut on desktop and force the game to use Direct X 12 by adding:

D:\Your\Path\To\The\Game\Detective.exe -dx12

UE4 is primarily designed to work with DirectX 11, there may be something to do with your hardware where it causes a crash with that where it doesn't with DX12.

----------------------
At this point of time this issue lies between your hardware/hardware settings and Unreal Engine 4.
Most of our suggestions were derived from other issues people had with their hardware in the past from different game titles (Unreal Tournament, Fortnine, or recent SCUM).

First three steps we've described has fixed it for our team (two different laptops with GTX 970M and GTX 1080)
Let us know if this fixes it for you.

Seems like you are having a different issue from what OP was having.
I'd encourage you to start a new thread here on steam, so we can distinguish these two obstacles and not get tangled in different solutions.

UE4 does have some prerequisites.
You need to have the following installed on your system:
- DirectX 11
- Visual C++ Redistributable 2015

If you could also post your system specs, and the error messages you were getting when launching the game that could help us understand what's going on.

Do you think the lack of Visual C++ could be the reason of my issue? I don't think I have it installed.

The error you report

D3D11Query.cpp] [Line: 111] GPU has crashed

Is a known error related to GPU crashing. Have you tried going through the troubleshooting list we've provided above?
