| Sega Saturn USB game pads? |
[01 Jun 2008|01:27am] |
Does anyone know where I can purchase one of those Sega Saturn USB game pads Sega was selling a few years ago? I meant to buy one back when they were still widely available on import sites, however, I decided to wait and see if the price would go down, but that never happened and they became incredibly difficult to find. I can't even find them on eBay. I'm fairly certain I could find one on a Japanese auction site, but that seems like a hassle, as most Japanese don't ship overseas, so I'd have to go through a middleman, and that'd cost me even more money, so I'd prefer to order from an actual website.
Anyone have any ideas?

| Fun Days Behind Me and Ahead |
[29 May 2008|07:36pm] |
A few years ago I sold most of my game consoles whilst enduring some financial hardship. Lately, times have been better and I have been recollecting all of my wonderful Segas. The only machine I had kept was my Saturn, though most of the discs have gotten completely scratched and rendered unusable (except for NiGHTS, thank God!).
I started this new collection with the Saturn, then purchased a Dreamcast. I cannot even explain the joy of replaying Sonic Adventure, Soul Reaver, Space Channel 5, PSO, and so many other wonderful titles. Yesterday, I purchased the third Master System of my life. Space Harrier, Thunder Blade, Hang On, Phantasy Star, Alex Kidd... my God, how I have missed my favorite system. The next system on this list of purchasing will have to be a Genesis with SegaCD, 32X, and the power base converter. Then finally, I will need to purchase a GameGear with the Master System attachment. If I ever find a Nomad I will need to buy it too, but finding a Nomad in working condition is nearly impossible.
The only non-Sega systems I own are the Wii and DS. I enjoy the DS, though the Wii is a little hard to become accustomed to. I bought the Wii for the NiGHTS sequel, and Sonic the Hedgehog. I had a GameCube for the same reasons (sega titles), but sold it after buying the Wii.

| NiGHTS into Dreams for PS2....? |
[19 Nov 2007|04:15pm] |
|
Play-Asia have recently listed a NiGHTS game for the PS2 (release date, February 21st, 2008). Now, before anyone says that they've simply gotten confused with the impending Wii release, PA stated that this info came from an official Sony preorder list. Also, note that the asking price is roughly $50, so whatever this is, it isn't a Sega Ages re-release. I guess we'll have to wait for Sega to give us an official statement.

| Saturn Cinemas |
[25 Nov 2007|12:00am] |
You can probably find these easily on YouTube, but I hate that site since the video quality is crapola. I like to use Stage 6 since it uses Divx video compression and they have the capacity for HD video (not to mention that they let you download videos from the site.)
Anywayz, I uploaded some Saturn game cinemas on there. Figured you all would appreciate them:
Guardian Heroes
Saturn Bomberman
Astal Intro
Astal Cinema
Last Bronx
If anyone has any request for Saturn cinemas, and I have the game in my collection, I'll see what I can do about uploading them.

| NiGHTS on PS2 |
[21 Nov 2007|11:19am] |
Just in case you haven't heard...Sega is working on an enhanced version of NiGHTS into Dreams on the PS2.
What? Yes, it's true. It will include enhanced graphics and 16x9 widescreen support.
It's strange. It seems as though Sega is actually catering to its fans lately...a lot.

| Why I Think We'll Get Eternal Arcadia 2 |
[19 Oct 2007|12:15pm] |
This is a hunch, and I've intended to write about it for some time. Because of an article I recently read, I was reminded of it.
Recently, Sega has been doing some exceptionally creative things again, even to the extent of doing the unthinkable: making a sequel to NiGHTS. Did anyone actually see that coming on anything aside from a fan's wish list?
Sega has lately been making, proportionally, quite a few adventure/RPG-esque games. On the Dreamcast and on the Gamecube, Skies of Arcadia and Skies of Arcadia Legends sold fairly well, considering their respective platforms. The game was nearly universally loved by all who played it. Since Sega seems to be in a mood for reviving old franchises, this seems like a good candidate. I'm sure that the team would love to make a sequel. I know that Rieko Kodama works on portable games now, but I doubt that that's not unchangeable...

| Any USA Dreamcast GameShark CDX users? |
[14 Oct 2007|01:09pm] |
Hey, anyone else out there use the GameShark CDX on their US Dreamcast as an import boot disk?
I did, for a while, to play the European release of Rez. It worked great. Then there was a span of a few months where I had misplaced the GameShark. Now I've found it, but it's not working, and I don't know what changed. When I try to start Rez, I do get to the "this game produced or licensed by Sega" (or whatever it says) splash screen for about 5 seconds, and then I get kicked back to the "Play - File - Music - Settings" menu screen. I seem to remember that when I got all this stuff the first time I had to experiment a lot with variables like whether or not I had a memory card in at boot time, how long to keep the black GameShark dongle plugged in before pulling it out, etc, but I don't remember what worked, and no combination I've tried this time around seems to be working.
This Dreamcast was brand-new from sega-parts.com about a year and a half ago, so I don't think it's the problem described here: http://www.ncsxshop.com/cgi-bin/shop/MK-51192-50.html . I tried it with the Dreamcast turned over anyway; no dice.
Anybody out there have any experience with this? Tips or ideas? Seeing as we're getting Rez HD on Xbox 360 soon anyway, it's not the end of the world if I don't get it working again...but it'd be nice. Thanks!

| Outrun 2006 |
[10 Oct 2007|11:31pm] |
So, after I mentioned Daytona, I decided to fire up the Dreamcast version. That game is bright.
Anyway...I just finished playing a session of Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast. I feel that this is a woefully overlooked, wonderful game. I bought it when it first came out, wanting some good Sega arcade fun, and that's exactly what I got. I'm still playing it, obviously. I actually think it's my favorite driving game. Any thoughts?

First line of IGN's SEGA Rally Revo review: "Now this is a SEGA game." Nice.
With all of these classic franchises seeing revivals, what's next? Daytona?

| Is the "old Sega" making a comeback? |
[06 Oct 2007|12:20am] |
It would seem so. First, we have the much-improved Phantasy Star: Ambition of Illuminus, which was just released in Japan, with much more music from Kobayashi-san and more of the art design from PSO. Next, we have a NiGHTS game coming, which will be at least good. While the early screenshots were a bit questionable, the game has come a long way since then. Then, we have news that Samba de Amigo is coming to the Wii. Add to that quirky titles like Seaman 2, and artistic ones like Valkyrie of the Battlefield: Gallian Chronicles, on top of classic franchises like the just-announced Sega Bass Fishing for the Wii, and we begin to notice a pattern. Let's not forget Ryu ga Gotoku: Kenzan!, which is prehaps the best-looking game I've ever seen. On top of this, some of Sega's own representatives have acknowledged that they have not treated the Sonic franchise well and have pledged to do better. Companies don't usually do that. We're also seeing arcade-to-home ports, oh which Sega has historically ported plenty to home consoles, such as Ghost Squad, Virtua Tennis, and Virtua Fighter 5. Of course, AM2 has never put out crap (probably in part because, through all of Sega's transitions, AM2 has been essentially left alone). I find myself once again seeing some consistent quality (and distinctive "Seganess") in Sega's titles. (To be fair, Phantasy Star Universe had plenty of that "Sega" feel; the game was just unfinished).
In any case, I think that things are going in the right direction, finally.
