| Maruchan Yakisoba Tomato Basil? |
[09 Aug 2009|01:20am] |
|
Hey, all -
Back in the day, I was a HUGE tomato ramen addict. Since Maruhan has discontinued this flavor back in 2003, I haven't been able to find anything like it - but the Tomato Basil Yakisoba gives me hope.
I haven't seen it in person around here, and am thinking of ordering it online, so, I was wondering - can anyone tell me if pork is in the ingredients, if you've had it/seen it around? I was *this* close to trying Nissin's tomato basil chow noodles, but it had pork in it, and I am Kosher.
Thank you! :)

I like to mix ramen with Stagg chili. Before I do that, when I boil the noodles, I include the seasoning, so that the noodles don't taste bland.

| Clare's Special Chicken/Corn Ramen (Recipe) |
[17 Apr 2006|05:01pm] |
|
I'm mostly a non-cook, and I'm inordinately fond of ramen. So, I've developed the simple recipe below rather precisely to my taste over the years. It makes a hearty and yummy ramen meal. And it uses only non-perishables -- the canned chicken and corn means you can store the stuff you need and it won't go bad. :)
My sister (the amazing cook) was over this weekend, and asked me to show her how I made my ramen so yummy. I was quite flattered to have her actually asking me for a recipe! I was reminded how yummy it's become over time, even to people other than me! Even to talented cooks like my sister! So I thought I'd post my recipe.
- 1 pkg. Top Ramen, Creamy Chicken flavor (the kind you boil, not the "instant noodles" you just add boiling water to and let sit)
- 1 can Corn Niblets, Green Giant (vacuum packed), 8oz or 11oz
- 1 can Chicken, White or breast meat, 3oz or 6oz
- 1 soupspoon + some extra splashes Kimlan Super Special Soy Sauce (or regular Kimlan Soy Sauce, if you don't have the Super Special)
- Couple of Dashes Sesame Oil
- Few shakes Onion Flakes
- Several shakes Sesame Seeds
- Several shakes Wagner's Flavor Magic (salt-free, primarily "soy grits", dehydrated garlic and onion, "spices" and "natural flavors", no MSG)
- ~1/8tbsp Asian Chili Garlic Sauce (in fridge)
DIRECTIONS Start 1.75 cups of water boiling. ( more directionsCollapse )
This isn't the recipe to use if you're trying to stretch your food dollar to the last bit -- canned chicken isn't the cheapest thing. But this recipe is hearty and yummy if you're a ramen-lover and looking for an easy recipe with nonperishables.

| COOKED: Bowl of Fresh Ramen with Chicken and Paneer |
[29 Dec 2005|04:38pm] |
|
OK, I've been meaning to whip up a bowl of some nice Fresh Ramen (in a large refrigerated package) that I got from my local 99 Ranch Market (a Chinese supermarket). And recently (after my lovely 3-week trip to India) I've become even more obsessed with paneer (Indian cheese). So...
Finally, Last night I summoned the energy to put together the Ramen Bowl of my dreams! I bought the paneer a while back, but hadn't gotten 'round to fixing something with it yet.
I made up this crazy recipe all by myself, inspired by my love of paneer and my happy discovery (while in India) that it really does taste quite fabulous in ramen. I cooked!
( MY RECIPE, with two phonecam pixCollapse )
Ohhhh, the paneer is SO GOOD in it! Want more paneer next time. More Paneer!!! Actually the chicken is a bit superfluous with the paneer; maybe skip the chicken next time in favor of still more paneer. Yummmm!
OK, this made enough for two servings. Hope the leftovers taste decent tonight. Would be kinda tough to make only one serving. Was more fussing than I'm used to doing to make a meal (I don't usually "cook"), but it wasn't as much fussing as I'd feared. And the payoff was worthwhile, at least!
OK, gotta celebrate by making a happy new PANEER icon. Now I have THREE cheese icons! Cheesy!!!

that ramen noodles cooked in the mircrowave, even in a regular bowl, taste kind of funkeh. As in plasticy. All in favor say yea.

I am beginning to hate how tasty ramen is. I just killed all the taste buds in my mouth and burned my chin because I couldn't wait for my roasted chicken yummy to cool.
Bastard burning hot noodles!

| 4000 year old noodles found |
[20 Oct 2005|08:12am] |
WHO invented the noodle is a hotly contested topic - with the Chinese, Italians and Arabs all staking a claim.
But the discovery of a pot of thin yellow noodles preserved for 4000 years in Yellow river silt may have tipped the bowl in China's favour. It suggests that people were eating noodles at least 1000 years earlier than previously thought, and many centuries before such dishes were documented in Europe.
"These are undoubtedly the oldest noodles ever found," says Houyuan Lu at China's Institute of Geology and Geophysics in Beijing. His team found the noodles buried 3 metres deep in flood-plain sediment at Lajia in north-eastern China after lifting out an upturned bowl. The "spaghetti-like" noodles, up to 50 centimetres long, sat atop a mound of silt which had sealed them in the bowl following a major earthquake and flood.

| I was poor, the maruchan man saved my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
[12 Oct 2005|02:02pm] |
I'm Reese, I survived for 4 months on maruchan ramen (chicken, chicken mushroom, oriental, and shrimp).
Sometimes I like to leave out the flavor packet and subsitute the noodles for the macaroni kraft macaroni & cheese, or just dip them in hot sauce, or pour a can of broccoli and cheese soup over them, yummy.
