In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and medicinal cooking (Yakuzen), understanding “Qi, Blood, and Body Fluids” is essential.
Even a small understanding of these three elements can help you deepen your connection with Yakuzen.

Today, let’s explore the third and final element—
What is “Jinye” (Body Fluids)?

“Jinye” refers to the moisture and fluids inside the body.
Specifically, it includes things like:
• Saliva
• Sweat
• Tears
• Internal fluids that later become urine

All the liquids that hydrate and protect our body are part of Jinye.

⸻

What does Jinye do in the body?

Jinye provides moisture to both the inside and surface of the body. It plays several important roles:
• Moistens the mucous membranes of the mouth, eyes, and nose
• Gives softness and shine to the skin and hair
• Keeps joints moving smoothly
• Helps cool down internal heat and regulate body temperature
• Aids in the elimination of waste through sweat, stool, and urine

In short, Jinye is like your body’s hydration team, maintaining a fresh and balanced internal environment.

⸻

What happens when Jinye is lacking?

When Jinye becomes deficient, the body may show various signs of dryness, such as:
• Dry mouth or throat
• Rough, dry skin
• Tired or dry eyes
• Reduced saliva production
• Less frequent urination

Your body starts to feel “dried out,” and it becomes harder to retain necessary moisture.

⸻

How does Yakuzen support Jinye?

To replenish Jinye and restore moisture, it’s important to include hydrating foods in your meals.

Recommended ingredients include:
• White fungus, lily bulbs, and komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach)
• Honey, pears, strawberries, and sesame seeds
• Pork, milk, and scallops

These foods help increase your body fluids, supporting softness, hydration, and smooth body function.

⸻

Think of it this way…

Jinye is like a gentle lotion or nourishing water that flows through your body.

When this moisture is lacking, you may experience:
• Stiff joints
• Dry, irritated skin
• Constipation

Jinye acts as a natural lubricant, helping your body move with ease and supporting your health quietly from within.

⸻

Now you’ve met all three: Qi, Blood, and Jinye

Each has a different role, but together, they support and balance one another—
Working as a team to maintain your physical and emotional well-being.

Their harmony is the true source of your inner vitality.
