英語の比較の基本 【比較級／最上級／as - as - 】（英語・英文法）

■英語の第３段階①

英語の「比較」は大事な文法だけど、
基本はそんなに難しくないです！

なのでこのページでできるようにしちゃおうね。
主に「比較級」「最上級」「as - as -」の3つです！

【比較級】

そもそも比較（ひかく）っていうのは
「私より君のほうが大きいね」みたいに比べることだよね。

　I am young.
　わたしは若い（young ヤング：若い）

この「young」に「er」を付けると
「より若い」という比較級にすることができます。

　I am younger.
　わたしはより若い

さらに「あなたより」って言いたかったら、
「than you」で付け加えられます。
（than ザン：より）

　I am younger than you.
　わたしはあなたより若い

となります。

とりあえず練習してみよっか！

　You are taller than him.
　君は彼より背が高い

　He is taller than I.
　彼はわたしより背が高い

　He is smaller than his mother.
　彼は彼の母より小さい

　His car is bigger than mine.
　彼の車はわたしのより大きい（biggerはbigの比較級）

　She runs faster than me.
　彼女はわたしより速く走る（「I」でもいい）

　This book is easier than that one.
　この本はあの本より簡単だ（easierはeasyの比較級）

（one=bookね！詳しくはitとone）

こんな感じ！

・・・

そんで、「長い単語」の場合、
ちょっとだけ変わります。
長い単語、たとえば「difficult（ディフィカルト）」。

　That book is difficult.
　あの本は難しい（difficult）

さっきのルールで「この本より」にすると、

　That book is difficulter than this one.

こうなるはずだよね。
でもダメです。
「長い単語」の場合、
erの代わりに「more（モアー）」を使います。

　That book is more difficult than this one.
　その本はこの本より難しい

　This song is more beautiful than that one.
　この歌はあの歌（one=song）より美しい

　Art is more interesting than music.
　美術は音楽よりおもしろい（インタレスティング）

長い単語はすぐ慣れるから覚えなくていいよ。
erの代わりにmoreだから、more使ってるときはerないからね。

ここまでが比較級！

【最上級】

最上級（さいじょうきゅう）っていうのは
「もっとも（いちばん）」って意味です。

　I am young.
　わたしは若い

この「young」に今度は「est」を付けると
「もっとも若い」という最上級にできます。

　I am the youngest.
　わたしはもっとも若い

最上級は「est」だけじゃなくて、
「the」も付けるのが普通です。

比較級は2人で比べるけど、
最上級は3人以上が基本。
「家族の中で」「３人の中で」って付け加えてみようか。

　I am the youngest in my family.
　わたしは家族の中でもっとも若い

　I am the youngest of the three.
　わたしは３人の中でもっとも若い

というふうになります。
「in」と「of」を使うよ！

ということで最上級はこれです。

さっきの比較級は「er」と「than」だったよね。
ちゃんと区別しとこう。

じゃあ練習だ！

　You are the tallest in my class.
　君は僕のクラスの中でいちばん背が高い

　She is the smartest of the four.
　彼女は４人の中でいちばん賢い

　This is the biggest car in the world.
　これは世界で一番大きい車です（biggestはbigの比較級）

　She runs the fastest of all women.
　彼女はすべての女性の中でいちばん速く走る
（womanの複数形のwomen：ウィミンって読むので注意）

　This book is the heaviest of all.
　この本はすべての中でもっとも重い（heaviestはheavyの最上級）

・・・

これにも長い単語のパターンがあるで。

　She is famous.
　彼女は有名だ（famous：フェイマス）

このfamousがギリ長い単語に入る単語です。

さっきは長い単語だとmoreを使ったけど、
最上級のときは「most（モスト）」を使います。
もちろん「the」も使うよ。

　She is the most famous in our school.
　彼女はわたしたちの学校でもっとも有名だ

　This picture is the most beautiful in the world.
　この絵は世界中でいちばん美しい

　This song is the most popular in my class.
　この歌はわたしたちのクラスの中で一番人気（popular：ポピュラー）だ

こんな感じ！
difficultやbeautifulも、
famousやpopularも長い単語の仲間だからね。

【 betterとbest 】

ベターとかベストって
聞いたことがあるんじゃないかな。

　This picture is good.
　この絵はいい

「good」は、
「better」が比較級で、
「best」が最上級なんです。

　This picture is better than that one.
　この絵はあの絵（one=picture）より良い

　This picture is the best in the world.
　この絵は世界中でいちばん良い（もちろんtheがつくよ）

で、実は、
「well（ウェル）」も
「better」が比較級で、
「best」が最上級なんです。

　He can sing well.
　彼は上手に（well）歌うことができる

　He can sing better than me.
　彼は私より上手に歌うことができる

　He can sing the best in my class.
　彼は私のクラスでいちばん上手に歌うことができる

また、
likeの文末にbetterとかthe bestとか付けることもできます。

　I like cats.
　私はネコが好き

　I like summer better.
　私はより夏が好き

　I like summer better than winter.
　私は冬より夏が好き

　I like this movie the best.
　私はいちばんこの映画が好き

というのもできます。

【 as - as - 】

「アズアズ」って読んで覚えちゃってください。

　I am young.
　わたしは若い

この文に「as - as -」をたすと、
「同じくらい」っていう意味をたせます。

　I am as young as him.
　わたしは彼と同じくらい若い

「I am as young as him」は
「young度が同じ」って言ってるだけで、
どっちも若いとは限らないからね。

　I am as old as he.
　わたしは彼と同じくらいの歳だ

これも「old度が同じ」ってことで、
お年寄りとは限りません。
（2個目のas以下もI my me mineの「I」の部分が来ることあるからね）

じゃあ練習だ！
as - as - は長い単語とか関係なく全部同じ！

　You are as tall as her.
　君は彼女と同じくらい背が高い

　This book is as easy as that one.
　この本はあの本（one=book）と同じくらい簡単だ

　That question is as difficult as this one.
　その問題はこの問題と同じくらい難しい

　Art is as interesting as music.
　美術は音楽と同じくらいおもしろい

・・・

ただ、as - as - は、
「not as - as -」だと「ーほどではない」になります。
（同じくらいーではない、じゃないからね）

　You are not as tall as her.
　君は彼女ほど背が高くはない（彼女のほうが背が高い）

　This book is not as easy as that one.
　この本はあの本ほど簡単ではない（あの本のほうが簡単）

　That artist is not as famous as this one.
　そのアーティストはこのアーティストほど有名じゃない
（このアーティストのほうが有名）

　She can't sing as well as you.
　彼女は君ほどうまく歌えない（君のほうがうまい）

「as - as -」は同じくらいだけど
「not as - as -」は同じじゃなくなるから気をつけて。

ということで比較おしまい！

【比較を読みとるときのコツ】

ただ、比較はね、文も長くなるから、
「なに書いてるのかわからなくなる」ことが起こりやすいんです。
そんなときのコツを教えておしまいね。

　This book is as difficult as that one.
　This book is more difficult than that one.
　This book is the most difficult of all.

「as - as -」「比較級」「最上級」が並んでるね。

まず「1個めのas」を消してください。
（比較級の場合はmore、最上級の場合はtheとmost）

　This book is as difficult as that one.
　This book is more difficult than that one.
　This book is the most difficult of all.

そしたら「2個めのas以下」も全部消してください。
（比較級の場合はthan以下、最上級の場合はofかin以下）

　This book is as difficult as that one.
　This book is more difficult than that one.
　This book is the most difficult of all.

こうすると元の文の

　This book is difficult.

が見えてくるでしょ。
こうすれば、とりあえず「この本は難しいんだな」ってことだけは理解できる。そうすれば、混乱が解けやすくなるはずだよ。

という感じ！
分かりやすいから「長い単語の場合」でやったけど

　This book is bigger than that one.
　This book is the biggest of all.

短い単語でも「er」「est」を消せば元通り。
このコツ、意外と、しかも困ったときに役立つからね。
