Non-blocking efficiency suggestion for For plain JSON, could we share the rectangular-row/null-prefix validation and flatten the original rows directly? That would create flat lists referencing the existing scalar objects: At 1,000 positions x 128 candidates, this could avoid about 1 MB of temporary numeric buffers and recreating up to 256,000 Python scalar objects. The base64 path should keep the NumPy arrays for packing float32/int32 bytes. If the intended contract also requires dtype conversion in plain JSON mode, that should be preserved or documented before changing this. This is a small follow-up optimization, not a correctness issue; the larger win here is already skipping candidate text and duplicate objects. |

RL clients that train on top-k candidates (e.g. score centering) read
meta_info.output_top_logprobs, a list of completion_tokens rows of k
[logprob, token_id, text] triples. Building it detokenizes every candidate,
and with logprobs the OpenAI chat response carries the same candidates again
in choices[].logprobs. At 160 tokens x k=128 that is ~2.4 MB of JSON per
turn, parsed and rebuilt in Python at every hop.
Add return_flat_raw_output_top_logprobs, the output-side counterpart of
return_flat_raw_top_logprobs: on the finished response, meta_info carries
output_top_logprobs_{val,idx}_flat[_b64], _shape and _null_prefix in the
prompt fields' layout, and the nested rows are neither detokenized nor
returned. return_flat_raw_top_logprobs_b64 now applies to either flag.
Streaming is rejected since the arrays are built once at finish, and rows
that are not rectangular fall back to the nested format as on the prompt
side. Chat completions expose both flags; there they require
return_meta_info, and the choices[].logprobs top_logprobs lists stay empty.

Without base64, the output fields went rows -> float32/int32 arrays -> new Python lists, recreating every candidate scalar. Split the rectangular/null-prefix validation out of build_flat_input_top_logprobs_arrays as flat_top_logprobs_layout and only build arrays for base64; plain JSON now flattens the engine's rows as the prompt-side fields already do. Suggested by @ByronHsu. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Chat clients that ask for return_flat_raw_output_top_logprobs now get base64 arrays unless they set return_flat_raw_top_logprobs_b64 to false, so one flag is enough. The chat request forwards the b64 flag only with flat output, since GenerateReqInput rejects it without a flat flag. /generate and the prompt-side flat format keep their defaults. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
test_parity requires every GenerateReqInput field to be in the v1 API schema or listed as Python-only. The output flag joins the prompt-side return_flat_raw_top_logprobs(_b64), which the HTTP contract has not adopted either. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

…obs as flat base64 arrays on request Cherry-pick of sgl-project#42890 into sglang-miles. The changes to rust/sglang-processor/src/openai/chat.rs and test/registered/unit/api/v1/test_parity.py are left out: neither file exists on this branch. … base64 arrays on request (#42838)
SGLang chat completions accept return_flat_raw_output_top_logprobs and return_flat_raw_top_logprobs_b64 (sgl-project/sglang#42890, on sglang-miles as #42838), which return output top-k candidates as base64 [tokens, k] arrays in meta_info instead of [logprob, token_id, text] rows. ChatCompletionRequest did not declare them, so serde dropped both before forwarding and SGLang fell back to the nested rows. The b64 flag is Option<bool> and skipped when unset: SGLang's chat default for it is true, and a #[serde(default)] bool would always forward false. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Score-centering session requests asked SGLang for top_logprobs, which come back as completion_tokens rows of k [logprob, token_id, text] triples. SGLang detokenizes every candidate and the session server parses the rows into Python objects, and JSON cannot carry -inf: a non-finite candidate arrives as null and numpy stores it as NaN in rollout_topk_log_probs. Chat training requests now also set return_flat_raw_output_top_logprobs (sgl-project/sglang#42890, on sglang-miles as #42838), which returns the candidates as float32/int32 [rows, k] arrays, base64 by default on chat, and append_rollout_topk_logprobs decodes them. Without that SGLang or a gateway that forwards the field (radixark/sgl-router-for-miles#24), the response keeps the nested rows, which are still decoded as before. Native /generate requests are unchanged because on-policy distillation reads the nested student rows there. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

This is the
maincounterpart of #42838 onsglang-miles, which becomes its cherry-pick once this merges. The diff is identical; the measurements and the end-to-end check below were done with it onsglang-miles(f19dcfb12), and the tests were rerun onmain.Motivation
RL clients that train on top-k candidates, such as score centering in miles, read
meta_info.output_top_logprobs. That field iscompletion_tokensrows of k[logprob, token_id, text]triples. Producing and consuming it is expensive at every hop:batch_decodecall per position.logprobs, the OpenAI chat response also builds the same candidates aschoices[].logprobs.content[].top_logprobspydantic objects, each carrying a token string and abyteslist.-inf, so a non-finite candidate logprob arrives asnull.Prompt top logprobs already have a compact format:
return_flat_raw_top_logprobs(+_b64). This PR adds the output-side counterpart.Modifications
GenerateReqInput.return_flat_raw_output_top_logprobs. On the finished response,meta_infocarriesoutput_top_logprobs_{val,idx}_flat(or_flat_b64with_dtype),output_top_logprobs_shapeandoutput_top_logprobs_null_prefix. The layout is identical to the prompt fields. Base64 packs float32/int32 arrays with the same helpers; plain JSON flattens the engine's own rows without a NumPy round trip, as the prompt side does (suggested by @ByronHsu). The nested rows are neither detokenized nor returned.finished=True. Intermediate non-streaming outputs carry no output top logprobs, andstream=Trueis rejected.return_flat_raw_top_logprobs_b64now applies to either flat flag.ChatCompletionRequestexposesreturn_flat_raw_output_top_logprobs, which requiresreturn_meta_info=true, andreturn_flat_raw_top_logprobs_b64. On chat the b64 flag defaults totrue, soreturn_flat_raw_output_top_logprobsalone returns base64; set it tofalsefor plain JSON lists./generateand the prompt-side flat format keepfalseas the default. With the flag, choices[].logprobskeeps the selected-token logprobs, but itstop_logprobslists are empty. The candidates are only inmeta_info.return_flat_raw_output_top_logprobsjoinsreturn_flat_raw_top_logprobs(_b64)intest_parity.py's Python-only request fields; the v1 HTTP contract hasn't adopted these flags.Gateways that parse chat requests into a typed struct must forward the two new fields. For the miles gateway that is radixark/sgl-router-for-miles#24. Consumer: radixark/miles#3952.
Accuracy Tests
There is no change to the values: float32 logprobs and int32 ids are bit-exact, and
-infis preserved. I replayed one response across repositories on the H200 host:TokenizerManager.convert_logprob_style, fed in 50-token chunks (the non-streaming force-stream interval), thenOpenAIServingChat._build_chat_response, then JSON.json.loadsand itsappend_rollout_topk_logprobsdecoder.The decoded
[tokens, k]arrays equal the engine rows for both formats. With a-infcandidate, only the flat format decodes back to-inf; the nested format arrives asnull.Speed Tests and Profiling
Same replay, CPU only, H200 host, Qwen3.5-9B tokenizer, median of 5:
model_dump_json)The FastAPI column is the current serialization path; the bracketed value is the single-pass serialization from #42889 (#42834 on
sglang-miles). The two PRs are independent. All of this CPU work runs on the HTTP/TokenizerManager event loop.End-to-end on H200
Measured on
sglang-miles(f19dcfb12). Stack P is this change (#42838) + #42834 + the gateway change (radixark/sgl-router-for-miles#24) + the miles consumer (radixark/miles#3952). Stack B isf19dcfb12with the released gateway and miles. Each served Qwen3.5-9B on one H200 with the production engine flags (TP1, FP8 KV cache, 32K context), behind the miles session server.output_top_logprobs_shape [32, 128], no nested rows and empty OpenAItop_logprobs: 49 KB instead of 453 KB for 32 tokens. The released gateway drops the flags, so B returns nested rows; a patched gateway in front of an unpatched engine also gets nested rows. Deploy order doesn't matter.Checklist
