Pinned empty piece of content sometimes created when copying pinned item #3131

Closed

Description

@TheOnlyOnlyName

Describe the bug
I've noticed a bug where sometimes it fails to copy pinned items and instead creates an item and pins it - This is quite annoying to have to manually unpin. Sometimes it also just creates a pinned duplicate of what you're trying to copy. I unfortunately do not have reliable repro steps.

To Reproduce

  • Pin some text
  • Copy the text

Expected behavior
The text is always correctly copied like normal

Version, OS and Environment
10.0.0, Windows 11

To show how annoying this is I didn't touch the pins for a few days and this is what happened 😭
(I have a habit of copying the letter a to keep something in my clipboard)

Similar issue here: when pasting a pinned item from a custom tab it occasionally gets added to the "default" tab and gets pinned there as well. Might be some timeout or race condition?

Possibly related to #3147 and #3042.

I haven't seen any issue with pinned items myself. It could be related to some specific behavior on Windows. 🤔

Strange, well it's been a constant annoying issue for me. Do you copy your pinned items often or do it from the right click tray icon menu like with pushing the corresponding numbers on your keyboard? Just throwing out some ideas of how I use it.

I do not have many pinned item, and use them only in a separate tabs from the one that is used for clipboard. I also can test this only on Linux.

My testing does not show any problems when copying items from tray menu on my side either.

BTW, is your tab synchronized to a folder on the disk?

Yes, in my case the tab that contains only pinned items is synchronized to a folder on the disk.
    I use Windows 10.

Could someone explain exactly what reordering the things in the items tab does?

Yes, in my case the tab that contains only pinned items is synchronized to a folder on the disk.

    Synchronization may affect this.

Did you try the latest version of CopyQ? There was some important fix in v11.0.0 ("Fix missing data in the last item when tab is full").

Could someone explain exactly what reordering the things in the items tab does?

The plugin order should not change behavior, but it changes the order in which items/tabs are processed. Anyway, I tested it with the default plugin order and still cannot see any issues with pinned items.

I will try downloading the latest version. Also, fwiw I changed my item order to match yours and haven't been able to reproduce since!

@hluk Ever since changing my items tab to yours as well as updating, I have not experienced this issue!

It still occasionally happens for me in v12 under Windows 10 with tab sync disabled. But it seems to happen less often than with tab sync enabled

Fixing in #3480. Can someone verify that this development build fixes the problem?
