I heard about this accident recently, and I didn't know the two kids, but I thought maybe some of you might.
Two Coweta teens killed in Hwy. 29 wreck Published 8/15/05
By ALEX McRAE
alex@newnan.com
A split-second misjudgment may be to blame for the deaths of two Coweta teens in a two-car collision on U.S. 29 South at the intersection of Highway 16 Saturday night.
"She said when she started turning she didn't think the other car was as close as it was," said Georgia State Trooper Jack Homer, referring to Brandi Ferrell, 19, of Haynie Road, Moreland.
Ferrell was driving the white Honda Accord in which Jessica Quintana, 18 and Jason Haygood, 19, both of Senoia, were killed when the Honda was struck on the passenger side by a Mercury Mountaineer while attempting to turn east off U.S. 29 onto Highway 16. The two deceased were on the passenger side of the car. All were wearing seat belts.
Ferrell and Blake Marney, 17, of Palmetto, a passenger on the driver's side of the vehicle, received only minor injuries. Ferrell suffered a bloody nose and swollen lip when the vehicle's air bag deployed. Marney sustained a small cut over his right eye.
The driver of the Mountaineer, James Rodney Wilburn, 62, of Greenville, Ga., was not injured and said his wife suffered only some small scratches in the collision.
The incident was reported to Coweta County 9-1-1 at 8:45 p.m. When Coweta County fire and emergency crews arrived they determined Quintana and Haygood had been killed on impact, according to Commander Todd Moore of the Coweta County Fire Department.
"It was obvious they didn't make it," said Moore, "so we started working to extract them from the vehicle."
Power equipment had to be used to peel the roof off the car and remove the rear passenger door. When the victims were removed from the wreckage they were transported to Newnan Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Quintana and Haygood were the parents of a baby, according to friends at the scene. All four teens had attended East Coweta High School, although none are currently enrolled.
Ferrell was too shaken up to speak other than to express her regrets. "I'm just so sorry this happened," she said. "I can't believe it's real."
The two couples had been shopping and visiting and were on their way to take Quintana and Haygood home to Senoia when the accident happened.
Brandi Ferrell's mother, Lisa Ferrell, said right after the wreck she got a phone call from Marney advising about the accident.
"He said we've had a bad wreck and Jessica and Jason aren't moving," Ferrell said. She and her husband then raced to the scene.
" When we got the call about the wreck, we were in shock. After I got here and saw the car I couldn't believe anybody got out," said Ferrell. "We're heartbroken about Jessica and Jason."
The driver of the SUV, James Rodney Wilburn, declined to comment on the accident other than to say, "Our hearts go out to those young people."
It did not appear alcohol or excessive speed was a factor in the wreck, according to Trooper Tim Brock of the Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision reconstruction team, although Brock said the investigation was not complete.
"We still have a lot of work to do," Brock said. No charges have been filed pending the outcome of the investigation.
"We can't emphasize enough that people need to pay attention every second when they're driving," said Coweta County Sheriff Mike Yeager. "You've just got to avoid distractions. This is a tragedy."

| winter drumline going strong |
[06 Mar 2005|10:57am] |

Ha, the school's Winter Drumline effin' rocks. We just came out second at a competition yesterday but we had stupid, literally STUPID, Penalties. they penalized us for the edge of our cymbal going over the line on the marimbas but the next school, they had their mat over the line SEVERELY and the judge goes up to them and asked them to move it so they won't get penalized and they did move it and theydidn't get penalized but the judge did not breathe a word to us and we did get penalized and we got two more penalties but I don't know what it is. i remember the otehr two were just as idiotic as this one. People can be so dumb, but don't worry, obviousely we still did well adn we beat northgate.... but of course everyone can do that.... and expect a post of me in a couple weeks stating how we won championships.

Shut the fuck up if you don't want to read it. I feel like rewinding.
Things I Miss About HS:
1. Never ever ever having to do homework. I graduated with an A average and probably did homework 3 times out of my 4 years at EC. When I got to UGA, I wished I would have had to do HW before.
2. Seeing your friends ALL THE TIME. After I moved away to college, I *never* saw my old friends. During HS, my best friend was Katie Prince. When I moved, I didn't talk to her for over a year. She was totally surprised to hear me say, "Hey, did I tell you I'm getting married in Feb.?" That's how weird it is.
3. School being .57 seconds away from my house.
4. Having a locker and pasting pictures of James Van Der Beek all over the door (which, I should probably mention this celeb-crush ended after watching my fave movie of all time, Rules of Attraction, for the mere fact he was making out with a guy).
5. Making fun of other people and being made fun of in return. Isn't that funny? When you look back on it, you realize how much of an idiot you were for caring that [insert name here] was talking about you behind your back. (2 years after you graduate, [insert name here] has gained 35 lbs. and still can't get his dick sucked.)
6. Never having to pay bills...especially hospital ones. This gets worse when you get engaged/married and you end up paying your fiancé's bills. Upside: He pays for your shit, too, including college.
7. Not worrying about scholarships.
8. Never having to drop classes.
Reasons Why Being In College Is WAY Better
1. Spring Break is kicks956879568906587965897564 x's ass.
2. You get to join sororities (ΞΔ).
3. Thursday could quite possibly be the start of your weekend.
4. You meet wonderful guys ( ) and end up getting married.
5. You can buy the porn channels at your apartment.
6. Waffle House 4 a.m. 'Nuff said.
7. Realizing some guys in HS had a crush on you and never said anything.

He's in the navy blue shirt (obviously):

| hold on, i gotta be a jerk for a moment... |

Wait a minute. Do you mean that Emaus will be playing FOR the Braves? He got drafted TO the Braves, but the article says that he is one of the wildcards that they're not sure if he'll end up playing in Atlanta.
Recently my school had several of our hockey players drafted to teams. One guy got drafted TO the NJ Devils, but started with their farm team, the Albany River Rats. Just because someone gets drafted TO a team doesn't mean they play FOR a team. At least, not to start out with.
BUT. It's still good--if you get drafted TO a team, it's still good nontheless.

PS--I don't mean to cause anyone any embarrassment or anything--I'm just picky. =)

Okie dokie. I graduated last year, 2003, and am now done with my first year of college at UAF. I've got all my core except for a math elective and my sciences out of the way, am 61 credits down (thus establishing me as a junior). My minor will be history. I thought I was going to die this past semester--I had 7 classes and a way overloaded schedule. But I got all A's and a B.
Next fall I'm going to be an embedded military journalist with a unit on our local Army post (HOOAH), a sort of journalism dispatch for the US Senate campaign in Alaska (Murkowski vs. Knowles), and vice-president of the UAF Honors program. I might try to go work with the radio station, as well.
Also, lately UAF has had a really weird situation with its radio station and a deejay named Scott Hornyak, aka "Spiderbui." If you have heard about this situation... Well, take it from me, I know the guy and know what he does. If you want to know, I'll tell you all about it. This is very important if you plan on doing college radio. College radio is fun unless some jerk ruins it for everyone else.
What else are all our college kids up to?
