Homemade with Love

To begin we have to go back in time a few years years. Grandma, who made all our Christmas stockings, gave me three items for Christmas. She had been having some trouble with her knitting and was worried that she was losing her touch so rather than waiting for me to marry and have a baby she made a stocking (for whomever I married - Christian's name has since been added), a baby blanket and a lamb. She was worried that, being single, I might be offended, but actually I thought it was sweet and a little funny. We laugh about it now. The blanket and the lamb were our first baby presents.

The week we moved we got a surprise in the mail. Mom sent us this great blanket. She had some pages from this great children's book screen printed and them quilted a sweet blanket. I think it is fantastic!

A few days ago we got another surprise in the mail. Tiffany sent us a package for Ruthie. Tiffany made a beautiful baby blanket, a cute beanie, and an an adorable hooded sweeter. She is so talented.

A Great Deal

Our new apartment needed a washer. We were stuck in the dilemma that most young couples (and older ones too) have when buying appliances. Do we buy the cheapest one we can find and hope it lasts or do we spend a little more and get a more reliable machine. We were on the fence. Then I did a search online and discovered a place called Sears Outlet. What is Sears Outlet? Well that is where floor models and machine with cosmetic damage (i.e. a scratch) go and are sold for a couple hundred less than the retail price. I found a great front load, 3rd tier energy star machine for the same price as the cheapest washer we had found previously. It was the best of both worlds so we bought it.

Unfortunately, when it came time to deliver the machine, it was missing in action. Christian made some calls and in the end the warehouse discovered that the store that sent them the machine marked it incorrectly and actually sent a dryer, not a washer. They offered us the choice to two other washers for the same price. We chose one that was even better than our original choice. Why was it at the Sears Outlet? It was scratched at the top.

Here is our new machine (I don't know why this picture keeps coming in sideways. Oh well). The scratches and the store's mistake got us a $550 discount!

We've Moved

Our old place was too small for our soon to be growing family. We had been on the hunt for a new place with a little more room and some more storage space. We found a place near downtown that was perfect. The bedroom are bigger, there is dining space for the kitchen table (no longer in the living room), all the food fits in the kitchen cupboards (no longer in a bedroom closet), there is a basement (part storage / part man cave for Christian), and covered parking. Best of all the price was right. We love our new place but are still in the unpacking stage. Matdy is adapting to the change.
