TO BE LOVED, FIRST BE LOVABLE
(Hasrat Ingin Dicintai, pt.2)Forgive my going on with this lovey-dovey blabber.
Hormones be damned; in the old saying I find a wisdom that might lead to the fulfillment of this human desire of being loved. It says: âTo be loved, first be lovable.â
Here starts the trouble. What are the criteria to be rightly, justly, legitimately lovable?
Beauty is often lovable, but no guarantees. Kindness should be lovable, yet mankind demands much more than what an invisible heart of gold could offer. I reckon the surest way to lovability is by positioning yourself to socially please others. In terms of intergender relationship, this could often mean that the ladies should succumb to the superiority of the male sex. âYes Sir, I am stupid, weak, and irrational, simply WAY below your rank.â And watch him smug. Amazingly enough heâd dote on you. In the worst of luck heâd at least think you honest and agreeable.
So you serve oneâs ego in order to be lovable in oneâs eyes, which is the requirement to be loved, which is a necessity for your ego. Is it just me or can you all see the absurdity? You serve oneâs ego in order to serve your own ego.
Nevertheless, this whole ego-serving-related-business does no favour for Pristi and me. We are witty, sassy, and thoroughly independent. We are capable of laughing not only with men but also at men. Therefore we are distinctly not lovable. It is a matter of consequence.
Yet suppose we were. The notion goes âto be loved, first be lovableâ. After accomplishing the âfirstâ, whatâs in the âsecondlyâ then? Funny I never heard anything about it. I guess even if you are lovable, to reach the state of being loved you must leave it to the bizarre ways by which the Nature works. Welcome to the unpredictables.
Iâm sorry to say that once more you might just meet our old friends hormones and pheromones. Being lovable is one thing, chemistry is another. To the best of my belief, there is no escape. Hello, oxytocin.
Note:
The true sentence should be: "We are witty (at least Pristi is), sassy (at least i am), and thoroughly independent (or so we wish)." But that's just SO LESS COOL! ;p
