Nostalgia Critic: "The Room"

There's a movie made by an unknown actor/director/writer/executive producer/producer (check the credits) named Tommy Wiseau that is considered one of the worst movies out there.  It's a little independent film he made based on his novel and screenplay called "The Room."  I have not seen it, but it is developing a cult following along the lines of "Plan 9 From Outer Space."

Well, last week the Nostalgia Critic (Doug Walker) gave a hilarious review of this film, even by the end of the review recommending it to people just so they could see how bad it is.  Before him, a newer reviewer going by the name Obscura Lupa had also done her own review of the film.

By this week, both reviews have been removed from the website.  Why?  Wiseau-Films made a copyright claim on the fact that they used footage from the film to make their point.

Well, at the moment Obscura Lupa's review is stil MIA, but the Nostalgia Critic's take is up at YouTube.

I'll talk a little more about this in the podcast this week, but just thought I would post this to give you guys a preview of at least one of the topics I'll be talking about this week.

Update: Fellow TGWTG contributor Brad Jones (The Cinema Snob) made his own contribution to the recent events.

Two Year Anniversary! Yay!

March 10 marked the two year anniversary of ConChrist -- this is just the first chance I've had to post about it.

Since then, my son has become a happy, healthy 18 month old, and I still don't have a job. But I'm close to the degree, so hopefully this time next year I'll be either in my own classroom or substituting and tutoring.

Thanks to everyone who has read me over the past two years (and putting up with my lapses in posting as of late -- school couldn't be helped). This is a great ride for me, and I hope that it can continue.

Thsi is Just Too Cool

Want to go bar hopping and have your mind get blown? Do it at this location in Switzerland.

If the design looks familiar, it should. It was designed by artist H.R. Giger, who designed the aliens for the "Alien" films.

Check ou tthe above link for more pictures.

That's Some Bearded Lady...

This must be a stock photo that just generates with certain ads, or someone's playing with the logarithms. But I had seen this photo attached to another ad in regards to lowering interest rates on home mortgages.

Behold..almost as bad as the ads telling moms that "Obama wants you to go back to school," here is "Scholarships For Moms."
That's one hairy mother...

You Know What's A Good Feeling?

1) Being done with classes for the term! Yay! Now I have a couple of weeks before the Winter Term starts to take a bit of a break.

2) Having a post generate more than 2 responses! Yay! Even though that wasn't my intention, BUT I'm happy for the debate (as long as it doesn't devolve into name calling). Maybe if I write a post about how I hate puppies I'll get even more! (For the record: I do not hate puppies.)

25 Cheap Halloween Costumes

As a public service since Halloween is coming up, I'm presenting this list of cheap Halloween costumes courtesy of Moolanomy.

I actually did one of the items on the list one year, except with a bit of a twist. One year I went as Martha Stewart for Halloween, but since it was around the time that she was under house arrest my costume had the addition of a convict number on the apron and an ankle bracelet.

The ARtist of the Obama Joker Poster Has Been Found

And this is too delicious of a revelation: He's a Palestinian lefty!

Bored during his winter school break, Firas Alkhateeb, a senior history major at the University of Illinois, crafted the picture of Obama with the recognizable clown makeup using Adobe's Photoshop software.

Alkhateeb had been tinkering with the program to improve the looks of photos he had taken on his clunky Kodak camera. The Joker project was his grandest undertaking yet. Using a tutorial he'd found online about how to "Jokerize" portraits, he downloaded the October 23 Time Magazine cover of Obama and began digitally painting over it.

Four or five hours later, he happily had his product.

On Jan. 18, Alkhateeb uploaded the image to photo-sharing site Flickr (shown at right). Over the next two months, he amassed just a couple thousand hits, he said.

Then the counter exploded after a still-anonymous rogue famously found his image, digitally removed the references to Time Magazine, captioned the picture with the word "socialism" and hung printed copies around L.A., making headlines.

Ha ha ha ha ha!

So does this mean that anyone who uses the poster can no longer be called a racist, then?

What's even funnier:

"After Obama was elected, you had all of these people who basically saw him as the second coming of Christ," Alkhateeb said. "From my perspective, there wasn't much substance to him."

"I abstained from voting in November," he wrote in an e-mail. "Living in Illinois, my vote means close to nothing as there was no chance Obama would not win the state." If he had to choose a politician to support, Alkhateeb said, it would be Ohio Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

HAHAHAHAHA!

Conan O'Brien's New Tonight Show Set

This has been talked about all week, but I just thought it was cute.

A website called Serious Lunch noticed something really interesting about the new set for the Tonight Show.

If you play video games, it may look a little familiar to you if you take a good look at it. Because it's the first level of Super Mario Brothers II.

On his Friday show, Conan decided to make a mention of it.

Pretty funny.

Literal Videos

It's not a new concept -- the idea is that the singer is actually singing about what's actually going on in the original video. But it's getting some attention because of this literal version of "Total Eclipse of the Heart."

The user who created this video, dascottijr, is one of the better artists doing the literal videos. This is his version of "I'd Do Anything For Love (ButI Won't Do That)" by Meat Loaf.

User Dusto McNeato started the concept, with his version of "Head Over Heels" by Tears For Fears being one of his best.

Check it out on You Tube.

Introducing The Wearable Towel!

Or as it's known by its other name, "the towel with holes!"

Consumerist called this "Summer's answer to the Snuggie." I would call this clever, except that I could probably make one very easily at home and save the money since I have a sewing machine that does buttonholes.

A Reminder: "The Goode Family"

I wrote about this show briefly before, so consider this a reminder.

ABC will be airing a new show from Mike Judge ("Beavis and Butthead," "King of the Hill," "Office Space") called "The Goode Family" about a family of environmentalists starting tomorrow night at 8 p.m.

The father (voiced by creator Mike Judge) "comes from a long line of overeducated academic liberals," according to the show's information. The mother (Nancy Walls Carell, "The Daily Show") is a local activist who is looking to go on the "big stage" of activism. Their adopted son Ubuntu (David Herman, "MadTV") is from South Africa. Their daughter Bliss (Linda Cardellini, "Scooby-Doo," "Freaks and Geeks") often disagrees with her parents and pokes holes in their philosophies. And their dog Che is also made a vegan, but often tries to eat the neighborhood animals and pets because he's craving meat in his diet.

I will be most likely reporting on the pilot once I get a look at it and giving my own review. Usually Mike Judge is right on the money.

A Funny Joke

I don't normally post jokes, but I had to post this one:

Pinocchio, Snow White, and Superman are out for a stroll in town one day. As they walked, they come across a sign: "Beauty contest for the most beautiful woman in the world."

"I am entering!" said Snow White. After half an hour she comes out and they ask her, "Well, how'd ya do?"

"First Place!" said Snow White.

They continue walking and they see a sign: "Contest for the strongest man in the world."

"I'm entering," says Superman. After half an hour, he returns and they ask him, "How did you make out?"

"First Place," answers Superman. "Did you ever doubt?"

They continue walking when they see a sign: "Contest! Who is the greatest liar in the world?" Pinocchio enters.

After half an hour he returns with tears in his eyes.

"What happened?" they asked.

"Who the hell is this Nancy Pelosi?" asked Pinocchio.
