A woman who has bad luck with romance decides to take some coins out of the Fountain of Love, and finds that she's inexplicably gotten the bearers of the coins to fall in love with her in "When In Rome."



A couple on the brink of divorce are forced to spend time in the Witness Relocation Program together after witnessing a murder in "Did You Hear About The Morgans?"

We Are Now Living In The USSR

At least if you believe that free speech is dead.

I was going to wait until more details came out, but Skip and Doug at Granite Grok have posted plenty on this. Plus NowHampshire has some more details that should disturb anyone.

As we all know, 1st CD Rep. Carol Shea-Porter held two laughable town halls this weekend -- one in Manchester and one in Portsmouth. The venues were laughable -- the IRS buildings in each of the cities. And on top of that, people were assigned tickets to ask a question. Which wouldn't have been so bad if, according to Doug, she didn't spend the first 20 minutes of the hour long town hall having a couple of speakers talk of their bad experiences with the current health care system.

A retired New York policeman in Manchester was escorted out of Carol Shea-Porter's event Saturday morning because he dared to speak when his ticket wasn't called.



As many people have pointed out, Shea-Porter, before becoming a US Representative, used to be a protestor against the war who used to follow Jeb Bradley around and dog him all the time. Apparently it's good enough for her, but not anyone else.

Didn't They Already Do A Remake in the 1980s?

Rob Zombie is about to tackle one of the classic Z-movies from the 1950s -- "The Blob."

Which was remade in 1988 starring Kevin Dillon and directed by Chuck Russell.

I'm wondering what Kate Phillips' family thinks of the idea.

Where In The World is Rep. Paul Hodes?

Yesterday he was in my general neck of the woods at the Tilton-Northfield Rotary Club:

U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes discussed health care reform at a meeting of the Tilton-Northfield Rotary Club Wednesday.

"I support a public option," said Hodes, a Democrat who represents the 2nd District in the U.S. House. "I believe it's a very important, critical part of the reform effort."

Hodes said the public option does not mean a government takeover of health care or a single-payer system.

"What we are talking about is introducing competition into a system that needs it," Hodes said."Right now, frankly, the insurance company's bureaucrats are between you and your doctors."

A public option would mean that existing health insurance companies would have to streamline their costs, become more efficient and offer competitive prices along with a government plan — a similar plan to the one federal employees now have, Hodes said.

Hodes also took time to express his sadness over the death of U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

"We have lost a great champion for health care reform and for the people," Hodes said to the Rotarians, before asking them to observe a moment of silence.

After the discussion, Hodes added that Kennedy was "a true champion" and that he will be "sorely missed" by all.

It was nice to see in the article that some of the people there were able to ask him some tough questions on this.

How about letting the rest of your constituents do the same, as well?

Carol Shea-Porter is a Dumbass, Part (?)

Caller Dennis from Manchester asked Shea-Porter during a broadcast on WGIR radio, “I just wanted to know where it says in the Constitution that the Democratic Party, and the Republican Party for that matter, can pretty much do what they’re trying to do?”
“I would point out to you that in the Constitution it also does not say the government can build roads or should build roads,” Shea-Porter replied. “It also doesn’t say the government should make sure the drugs are safe. It doesn’t say the government should look at airplanes to make sure they are safe to get on. It doesn’t say we should have a police force in Manchester.”
“So, the Constitution did not cover everything,” Shea-Porter concluded.

What she doesn't seem to understand is that the federal government doesn't have the power to impose roads or police forces or any of those examples that she posed because they are under the power of the state, NOT the federal government. You would think that a Congressperson would understand that.

Press Conference on Mark Sanford Today

I just got a press release in my e-mail from the Lt. Governor's office regarding a press conference that's going to be held at noon in regards to the investigation into Gov. Mark Sanford. Stay tuned.

Update: The Lt. Governor has asked Gov. Mark Sanford to step down from his post, and that if he doesn't impeachment hearings should start.

They're Already Starting

This was in the NY Times over the weekend. Since Rush Limbaugh has now brought up the story, it's worth mentioning.

Public health officials are considering promoting routine circumcision for all baby boys born in the United States to reduce the spread of H.I.V., the virus that causes AIDS.

The topic is a delicate one that has already generated controversy, even though a formal draft of the proposed recommendations, due out from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by the end of the year, has yet to be released.

When my son was born, this was one of those decisions that we had to make for our son -- do we or don't we? When my husband's first wife had their son, they had it done, although my husband wasn't too thrilled about the idea. I had thought about it, too, until I saw an episode of Penn and Teller: Bullshit that focused on the topic and then did my own research afterwards. Since it was way before I had my son when the episode aired, I told my husband that if we had a boy we would let him make the decision on his own when he got older. And when he was born, the hospital didn't make a big deal out of it -- the only thing they recommended was, "What's good for Daddy is good for baby."

That was our decision.

Although the article does state that they aren't going to force people to get their little boys circumcized, the idea that the goverment is going to promote the idea based on inconclusinve studies is a step towards that. It always starts with a "suggestion."

Apparently this happened after I left: a woman started getting on Doug's case about his huge Obama/Joker sign that he was holding, calling him "racist" and that he "should be thrown in the stockade." The woman drove off in her car, but then returned to join them holding this sign:

I think if the deck ends up stacked in her favor at both events, it's time for another protest. She's too chicken to even talk to us, the irony being that she used to go to town halls herself to "bring debate." She proved that last night when she wouldn't even engage with us out on the sidewalk. (I do have to give Rep. Paul Hodes credit, though -- last night he actually did approach us and talk with us even though he didn't really answer any of our questions)

Concord Healthcare Protest

This was the first protest I have been to in awhile. Other than getting lost on my way down there (oops!), it went fairly well. I had to take my son Christopher with me, so he got another shot at being card carrying member of "the mob." :-) Doug and Skip from Granite Grok took pictures and video, so once they post it I'll put up the links.

The highlights:

-- Of course, there was one sign on my son's stroller that read "I didn't read the bill, either!" The one I was carrying was two sided: one side read, "Keep Your Hands Off My Health Care!" The other side read "Hodes -- Come Out, Come Out Wherever You Are!" (reference to the fact that he has yet to schedule a real town hall debate).

-- We were standing outside of the restaurant where BlueHampshire.com was having their fundraiser featuring Rep. Carol Shea-Porter and Rep. Paul Hodes as well as the founder of liberal blog DailyKOS. The street was pretty busy. We had people honking for us, and those against us were giving us the middle finger. (So much for intelligent debate.) One woman driving by went so far as to stick both her hands out the window WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING to swear at us. Yeah, that was safe.

-- There were Obamacare supporters that stood along side us. It was civil -- no one tried to beat us up or anything. They also didn't stay long. I had made the conscious decision not to argue or debate them while I was there because I had Christopher with me. Although I did have to throw in a comment when one guy, joining the supporters, started debating one woman, and when one of the other protestors said that "They don't have any ideas," he shouted back, "They have ideas!" I had to yell to him as he was crossing the street, "Not the right ones!"

-- Skip and Doug showed up later in the day. Doug had a huge sign with Obama as the Joker, while Skip started holding the sign featuring the confusing beauraucracy of the Obama Health Care Plan. Doug was very proud of that sign.

-- At some point some kids decided to join us -- some tween/teen girls and some preteen African-American boys. I wouldn't have noted their race except that they were willing to pose with Doug's Joker sign. They stood with our group for a good portion of the time, and were trying to get cars to honk their horns.

-- Rep. Paul Hodes actually came to talk to us while we were protesting. I got to shake his hand, but didn't get a chance to say much more than introducing myself because he moved down the line. He saw my sign and said, "Well, I'm here."

-- Rep. Carol Shea-Porter showed herself to be a chicken weenie. I didn't see her as she was going in because I was feeding Christopher, but I could hear the other protestors calling her chicken for not wanting to debate us. Apparently as she was going in the only thing she did was smile and wave.

I left around 6:30 p.m. so I could get Christopher home to bed. But I'm sure if anything happened after I left Doug and Skip will have it up tomorrow.

The Newest Obamaism

At an online forum on healthcare held Thursday at the Democratic National Committee (DNC), Obama drew on his own political experience to predict better fortunes next month.

"There's something about August going into September where everyone in Washington gets all 'wee-weed' up," the president said.

The ARtist of the Obama Joker Poster Has Been Found

And this is too delicious of a revelation: He's a Palestinian lefty!

Bored during his winter school break, Firas Alkhateeb, a senior history major at the University of Illinois, crafted the picture of Obama with the recognizable clown makeup using Adobe's Photoshop software.

Alkhateeb had been tinkering with the program to improve the looks of photos he had taken on his clunky Kodak camera. The Joker project was his grandest undertaking yet. Using a tutorial he'd found online about how to "Jokerize" portraits, he downloaded the October 23 Time Magazine cover of Obama and began digitally painting over it.

Four or five hours later, he happily had his product.

On Jan. 18, Alkhateeb uploaded the image to photo-sharing site Flickr (shown at right). Over the next two months, he amassed just a couple thousand hits, he said.

Then the counter exploded after a still-anonymous rogue famously found his image, digitally removed the references to Time Magazine, captioned the picture with the word "socialism" and hung printed copies around L.A., making headlines.

Ha ha ha ha ha!

So does this mean that anyone who uses the poster can no longer be called a racist, then?

What's even funnier:

"After Obama was elected, you had all of these people who basically saw him as the second coming of Christ," Alkhateeb said. "From my perspective, there wasn't much substance to him."

"I abstained from voting in November," he wrote in an e-mail. "Living in Illinois, my vote means close to nothing as there was no chance Obama would not win the state." If he had to choose a politician to support, Alkhateeb said, it would be Ohio Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

BREAKING: Health Secretary Sebellius Said Obama Willing to Accept Bill WITHOUT Public Option

Could it be that our government is FINALLY istening to us?

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's health secretary is suggesting the White House is ready to accept nonprofit insurance cooperatives instead of a government-run public option in a health overhaul plan. A Republican senator says that is worth looking at.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says Obama still believes there should be choice and competition" in the health insurance market — but that a public option is "not the essential element."

Obama has been pressing for the government to run a health insurance organization to help cover the nation's nearly 50 million uninsured. But he had not seen a not-for-profit co-op as sufficient to offer consumers choice and competition that would bring down the costs of private insurance.

Sebelius spoke on CNN's "State of the Union."

Republican Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama says a potential administration shift from a government-run health insurance to a privately run cooperative is something that opponents like him should consider.

I seriously, SERIOUSLY hope that this does come off the table. This has been one of the biggest sticking points of this bill. Hopefully a lot of other things in the bill will also be reconsidered.

Earlier this week when in the Congo, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton got a little upset with a questioner who wanted to know her husband's opinion on a foreign affairs issue. She got rather indignant and said, "I'M the Secretary of State, not my husband!"

Just In: Finance Committee Dropping "End Of Life" Provision From Health Care Bill

Victory, of sorts.

The Senate Finance Committee will drop a controversial provision on consultations for end-of-life care from its proposed healthcare bill, its top Republican member said Thursday.

The committee, which has worked on putting together a bipartisan healthcare reform bill, will drop the controversial provision after it was derided by conservatives as "death panels" to encourage euthanasia.

"On the Finance Committee, we are working very hard to avoid unintended consequences by methodically working through the complexities of all of these issues and policy options," Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said in a statement. "We dropped end-of-life provisions from consideration entirely because of the way they could be misinterpreted and implemented incorrectly."

Now if they could just revamp the rest of the bill or toss it entirely we'd be all set.

Letter To The Editor and Other Business

I wrote the following letter to several newspapers in the area. I had responses from the Union Leader and the Concord Monitor to trim it down. But The Citizen ran it as-is in Wednesday's edition. Here is the letter.

The TEA Party movement is something that no one has seen in many, many years. Probably not since the original Tea Party, in fact. So why are our representatives here in New Hampshire willing to pooh-pooh their own constituents in order to do what they want and hiding from dissenting opinions?

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has accused TEA Party protestors of carrying Nazi symbols into these meetings. (Which I find hypocritical since she never spoke out on those on the left who were openly calling Bush and Cheney "Hitler") Sen. Barbara Boxer of California said that it wasn't genuine because the protestors were too "well dressed." (All of a sudden t-shirts, jeans, halter tops and shorts are "well dressed?" Contact the crew of "What Not To Wear" and let them know!) Others on the Democratic side have tried to call those of us who don't want any more of our money spent on social experiments such as the proposed health care bill and tax and cap an "angry mob." That one I actually find kind of funny since the only people who seem to be getting hurt at these protests are TEA partiers who are being beaten and kicked by union thugs who were called into action by the White House.

But what I find most disconcerting is the fact that our own representatives here in New Hampshire do not want to even talk with us unless they can control the conversation through "telephone town halls" or sending their staff but not themselves to "collect concerns" (which has been Sen. Jeanne Shaheen's tactic since coming back to the state). I'm not a threatening person. I'm a mother of an almost 1 year old, a stepmother to my husband's two children, a graduate student, an unpaid blogger, and a concerned citizen of this state who is worried about where this bill is going to take us.

Frankly, our representatives are chicken. They're too chicken to listen to what we have to say to them, because they know they won't like it. They're too chicken to face tough questions about this bill. And they're trying to isolate themselves in their own personal little "Cone of Silence" like in the television show "Get Smart." Apparently what they forgot is that, on "Get Smart," the "Cone of Silence" never worked.

We, the residents of New Hampshire, hired you to represent us in Washington. We didn't hire you to ignore us. We are your boss. And you are supposed to be listening to us. So hold a town-hall meeting already and listen to us, already, or count on getting fired come November 2010.

The Obama Portsmouth Event Yesterday

Where in NH IS Jeanne Shaheen?

She was in Meredith yesterday.

U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen was joined at Church Landing by Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., Monday afternoon to promote federal legislation to encourage more people to vacation and visit the U.S.

The Tourism Promotion Act would create public-private partnerships to promote American tourism and, according to Shaheen, is scheduled to be the first piece of legislation discussed when the Senate convenes in September.

But she won't meet with her constituents in regards to the health care issue. Chicken.

Burger King in Missouri Forced to Apologize

After kicking a mother and her 6 month old baby out because the baby was not wearing shoes.

KTVI says the manager was standing next to the cashier as she ordered, and warned her that she could take her order "to go" or she could find some shoes for her baby. The woman says the baby is too young to even have shoes, but she put some socks on her in an effort to be diplomatic. This did not win over the manager, who threatened to call the police if she didn't take her shoeless baby out of the restaurant. He claimed the baby's lack of footwear was a violation of "health code."

Considering I'm a mother if an infant, myself, I can attest that BABIES DON'T NEED SHOES! In the winter, I would put shoes on him just to keep his feet from getting cold. But if he's in the house, Christopher does not wear shoes. Any pediatrician will tell you that because it could hinder foot development. Once he starts walking or once winter hits, he'll be wearing shoes more often.

But for now, he's barefoot. And so should this baby.

In fairness, though, the franchisee is going to retrain his employees on when people should be wearing shoes in the store or not. Hopefully the first thing they train them on is BABIES DON'T NEED SHOES!

Ray Buckley is an Idiot, Part III

From Now Hampshire:

New Hampshire Democratic State Chairman Ray Buckley is threatening to “muster” Organizing For America, the Obama administration’s political arm, while promising liberal Granite Staters, “you are going to see significant push back on these thugs.”

By “thugs” Buckley means taxpayers who have expressed discontent at recent congressional town hall meetings.

Writing on the liberal blog Blue Hampshire Wednesday, Buckley commented, “I have been thinking about Al Gore alot (sic) lately with all of the similarities between the Florida GOP riot in 2000 and what they are now doing to congressional town meetings.”

To which a commenter replied, “I’d really like to see OFA [Organizing For America] come up big on this. Who could think of a better reason to call a muster?”

“Yes,” said Buckley. “I think you are going to see significant push back on these thugs.”

Considering that none of our elected officials here in NH are willing to hold town halls (Sen. Jeanne Shaheen is holding a "tele-town hall" tonight -- chicken), we have to resort to getting them where they are -- their home offices.

Once I get dates and locations for protests, I'll let you know -- the only one I know of right now is August 11 in Portsmouth for President Obama's appearance. I'm thinking next time there's one near me that I'm going to carry a sign that says, "Obamacare is taking tax money from me that I could use to buy a better wardrobe!" on one side, and "Do I look well dressed to you?" on the other side. (For the reference, go here.) I also plan on pulling out the "I Didn't Read The Bill, Either" sign for Christopher's stroller from the April TEA parties.

Obama Emulating Another President

The White House request that members of the public report anyone who is spreading "disinformation" about the proposed national health care makeover could lead to a White House database of political opponents that will be both secret and permanent, according to Republican lawyers on the Senate Judiciary Committee who are examining the plan's possible implementation.

On Monday, White House director of new media Macon Phillips posted a note on the White House web site complaining of "disinformation about health insurance reform." "These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation," Phillips wrote. "Since we can't keep track of all of them here at the White House, we're asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov."

In a letter to Obama Tuesday, Republican Sen. John Cornyn wrote that, given Phillips' request, "it is inevitable that the names, email address, IP addresses, and private speech of U.S. citizens will be reported to the White House." Cornyn warned the president that "these actions taken by your White House staff raise the specter of a data collection program."

"I can only imagine the level of justifiable outrage had your predecessor asked Americans to forward emails critical of his policies to the White House," Cornyn continued. "I urge you to cease this program immediately."

Welcome to Russia, folks. This is what 52% voted for. Now they're getting it.

Interesting...

Looks like Cap and Trade is off the table until at least next year because of Obamacare.

With the fight over health care reform absorbing all the bandwidth on Capitol Hill, Democrats fear a major climate change bill may be left on the cutting-room floor this year.

A handful of key senators on climate change are almost guaranteed to be tied up well into the fall on health care. Democrats from the Midwest and the South are resistant to a cap-and-trade proposal. And few if any Republicans are jumping in to help push a global warming and energy initiative.

As a result, many Democrats fear the lack of political will and the congressional calendar will conspire to punt climate change into next year.

“The reality is [the health reform bill] is going to happen before cap and trade,” said House Agriculture Committee Chairman Rep. Collin Peterson, who’s been working with farm-state senators on the climate legislation. “Who knows if it will ever come out of the Senate?”

Is it possible that we might get our elected officials to read the bills they write?

As the TEA Parties Continue...

One congressman has decided that he would rather hide out from his constituents in a children's hospital in order to avoid a "confrontation" with them.

And have you noticed the stupidity on the left over this since they came back to their home states? Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) said on "Hardball" that she knows this is a "calculated effort" because the protestors are "too well dressed."



I'd hate to know what her fashion standards are if she thinks a t-shirt, shorts, jeans, and halter tops are "too well dressed."

And a new DNC ad calls protestors "extremists."



I want to know how this is any different from what the left did to Bush over the war? Oh, yeah, I know. Because apparently only the left is allowed to protest with "sincerety" (while being funded by George Soros).

You Gotta Love Crazy Neighbors

From Burbia, we have this incredibly insane but funny story.

• Freak neighbor [Paul] complained about his normal neighbor [John] keeping a couple lawn chairs on John's own lawn. John replied with what you'd expect: STFU and, by the way, worry about your own yard which is basically a sh*t-hole.

• Unsatisfied & coming undone, Paul continued -- with a barrage of messages that included a comical "settlement offer" allowing John to keep only 1 lawn chair on his own lawn. John's response: "No"...and then to erect lawn chair towers in his backyard, in addition to discovering for Paul (& town authorities) a leaking underground oil tank on Paul's yard. Not good for Paul.

But wait, there's more! As a summary of the more recent e-mails, apparently John's neighbors are joining in on the fun, as well, and building their own lawn chair towers to tick Paul off. Paul tries to negotiate with John again, saying that his "lawyer," who he admits is not a lawyer, says he has a good case. John informs him that the person in question is a janitor, and he should know because he plays pool with him. But you really have to read the e-mails to get an idea of the craziness of the situation.

This is too entertaining to not keep track of. Especially I'm sure we can all identify with that crazy neighbor on your block.

In our case, it's the woman across the street from us. I don't know her name, but I've had to warn the stepkids not to go on the property because she gets into everyone's business. She likes to watch the neighborhood, and will yell at the kids and the adults if she thinks they're doing something "wrong." Our former neighbors last summer told me that they heard her screaming at her kitten for an hour as if it were a person.

We were fine with her until she decided to mess with us last summer. Not going to say what happened, but we pretty much made sure we had curtains in our windows afterwards.

Help Report Inaccuracies of the ObamaCare Plan!

This is unbelievable.

Right Net News is reporting that the White House is asking their minions to help report "inaccuracies" on the Internet that they see in regards to getting information out on health care. The address to mail to is flag@whitehouse.gov.

Guess what your project is? That's right: use the e-mail address to report President Obama's non-truths on the health care plan!

I plan on doing it. Will you?

Incidentally, Penn and Teller this week focused on the Organic Food movement. And blew a hole into all the arguments that people make about organic versus non-organic. I think it was a coincidence that they aired it the week that a new study came out that said there was no significant difference in nutrition between organic and non-organic. (warning: NSFW for language and nudity towards the end)

Project 2,996 is looking for bloggers to do tributes to 9/11 victims on September 11 this year. It's a yearly project to keep in mind the victims of this terrible tragedy.

This year, I'm volunteering my blogging services to participate.
