Calving Has Begun

I am looking West of Charlie's.  There are a handful of baby calves over there on the hillside.

This calf's mother left him so we are taking him down to her. She is a bit flighty so she took off and jumped the fence.   He went right to nursing when they got together.  Goofy cow.

This was the sweetest thing ever.  It took me a minute to see the baby snuggled up against the mama.

This baby spent a few hours in the warmer.  He came out toasty warm and hungry. 

This calf tested my patience.  He would not nurse unless we caught the cow in the shute.  She was cooperative but not very happy about it.  We had to use the pitchfork a time or two to get her to cooperate.  Finally, after 4 days, he could latch on with out help!

Cattle in Leamington

This is the round pen at Frank's place. 

They are good cattle and Frank is a good guy.  

He is one of Bryan's clients that  likes me to answer the phone.

After we loaded the 4 loads, Frank and his wife, Joyce, took us to breakfast in Delta.  While we were there we went to look at a feedlot owned by Gibson Lewis and then we went to look at Kurt Spencer's cattle that were being loaded within a few days.  Bryan cut a few out and saved Allan a trip down.

On our way back to the interstate, we come upon this tanker truck turned on its side.

Just kiddin' around

I had to do my dad's chores and he has 15 of these cute little guys running around!  There is nothing cuter than a baby goat.  I remember as a kid my mom would bring them to school for me to show the other students.  It was great!

Hanuama Bay

Snorkeling was a hit!  We had so much fun in spite of the fact that it was raining.  The fish were plentiful.  The reef was shallow so we scrapped our knees on them.  If we got out where it was deeper it was better.  The kids got to video and see a sea turtle which was a highlight.  We could have spent a lot more time snorkeling.  I am glad the kids liked it!

An overlook of the bay.  It was a beautiful place to be.  We had to watch an 8 minute video before we could get in the water.  It talked about not touching the reef--which was nearly  impossible!

The lovebirds were more like mermaids swimming around.  

The P.C.C.

After spending a few hours at the beach we went to the Polynesian Cultural Center.  Sherleen got us some tickets and then she came back to watch the Breath of Life show with us.  While we were wandering around the PCC, Jackson heard someone call his name and it was a guy from Tonga who had served in his mission.  He was a great guy and he took us on a canoe ride.

Jackson and Courtney got called out of the audience and were given these cute woven headbands.  The dinner was pork and rice and other island foods. 

This guy was pretty cool dancing with fire.  The kids who work here are mostly students of BYU Hawaii and as part of their scholarship they have to work at the PCC somewhere.

I've Got A Lovely Bunch of Coconuts

We went to a little fruit stand a mile or so from our beach house and bought a coconut and  some bananas.  

The lady opened the top for us and gave us a straw to drink the juice out.  It is supposed to be better to drink if you are thirsty than water.  

It tasted pretty blah but it was refreshing.  I broke it open when we got home and dug the meat out.  No one was very impressed with the flavor of fresh coconut.

Friday: Our First Beach Day--Malekahana and Goat Island

This was the sunrise.  I love to see the pink sun peek up over the horizon.  

I went for a nice run to the South of our house.  Sierra slept in.

When we got out to Goat Island this is the sign we were met with.  It was about 2 blocks out.

We were here about 2 hours and could have stayed all day.  We had the beach pretty much to ourselves.  Bryan and I went for a little walk along the beach.  It was so beautiful.

Bryan tolerated being on the beach.  He did take off his jacket for a few minutes.  He did not get in the water.
