While I was visiting family in Utah over the Christmas break, I had an amazing opportunity to present two Snowy Day Kids' Craft segments onKSL Studio 5.
I'd like to share the details of the experience with you, because it was an incredible event.
I emailed Studio 5 a few months after my blog's beginning, just wondering how I might go about getting on the show. I sent them a few links to projects I'd done, but I really didn't think they'd even get back with me since I was a brand spanking new blog. They soon responded and were very interested, wondering when I'd be in Utah again. Long story short, and many emails back and forth later, I landed two segments on the show for January 3rd.
I knew that the show was not live, but was told that morning it would be taped as if it were. Eek! No do-overs for me.

Lots of preparation went into the few-minute slot. I made final examples and step-by-steps for each of the three crafts, and I packed in the raw supplies for demonstration purposes during the segments.
I arrived at 10:00 a.m. sharp with my handsome hubby. We were buzzed into the area by the secretary, who showed us back to the very comfy guest area.
We were then warmly greeted by Stephanie Benson, the Sr. Producer of Studio 5, whom I had been in contact with over the past many months. It was neat to finally put a face to her name. She was SO nice and really put me at ease.
Next, Stephanie's sweet assistant led me back to the studio and graciously helped me get set up. Then Stephanie came back in after everything was ready and took pictures of the crafts for the website and gave me a few really quick pointers.
Now back to the studio, I was able to very briefly meet Brooke Walker (the Host and Executive Producer-so cool!) before she dashed off to start the show. Then I went back to the guest seating area and watched on the big screen with my husband, while the first segment of the day (The 10 Pound Challenge) was taped. Before that segment ended, I was pulled in by the page, who put me in place and told me that Brooke would start walking my way mid-sentence at the end of the previous segment and we'd start right into mine.
This was the point where I had to take a few quick, deep breaths (to calm my nerves) and pinch myself. This was for real!
The cameras moved, focused in on us, and we were rolling!
Meanwhile, Becky Low was setting up her food demonstration for a very tasty-looking Beefy Skillet Dinner about 15 feet to the right of us. About eight minutes and three fun crafts later, it was all over!
Here's the full-length clip of my segments on the show, if you care to watch. After we finished, I packed up my things and we were out of there before 11:30 am! It was such a whirlwind, but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. There's definitely room for improvement, but overall, not too shabby for my first TV appearance, taped as if it were live, with very little previous instruction. Apparently the word "fun" is so fun to say. :)
It was a great learning/growing experience and something that I would have never dreamed I'd do a few years ago, before the beginning of my blog.
