Fountain Hill Skarn

Skarns with garnet and idocrase crystals up to 1cm on the shoreline facing the southern end of Omey Island.

Ahmed-Said and Leake(1996) describe skarns in the contact between the Omey granite and the Lakes marble formation where the latter is within 300m from the granite contact. They describe occurrences at the Fountain Hill beach on the South side of the Omey granite. The skarns described by Ahmed-Said and Leake is undoubtedly in the vicinity of Grallagh, perhaps even the same outcrop. The data from Ahmed-Said and Leake is therefore added to this locality, despite the difference in naming.
