BlueBird Block 2 are the operational satellites for AST & Science's SpaceMobile mobile communications constellation, designed to provide space-based cellular broadband connectivity directly to standard mobile smartphones.
The operational constellation wll consist of up to 60 stellites.
BlueBird Block 2 satellites are designed to deliver up to 10 times the bandwidth capacity of the BlueBird Block 1 satellites.
The first prototype, BlueBird 6 with a mass of 6100 kg was launched in December 2025 on an Indian LVM3 (2).
The second satellite, BlueBird 7, was launched in April 2026 on the third New Glenn 7x2. An issue with stage 2 left it in an unrecovarable orbit.
