PERPLEXITY · STUDENT DISCOUNT · 2026
If you searched for a Perplexity student discount hoping to get Pro completely free, start with the honest answer: Perplexity Pro is no longer universally free for students. The old free-Pro-for-12-months student offer has changed.
Checked September 21, 2026: Perplexity offers verified students and educators a discounted Education Pro plan, not a universal 12-month free subscription. The official plan overview lists $10/month after verification; confirm your eligibility and any local taxes before paying. Education Pro costs $10/month for eligible students and educators after SheerID verification, according to Perplexity’s official plan overview. That is $120 over 12 monthly payments.

What Is Perplexity AI and Why Students Love It
Perplexity AI is a powerful, real-time answer engine that combines live web search with verified, clickable citations. Unlike traditional search engines that bury you in sponsored links, it delivers direct, sourced answers from trusted publications.
That makes it useful for academic research. Students use it to summarize dense papers, find sources for university theses, and turn their notes into study materials.
Citations make source-checking faster, but they do not make every answer automatically accurate. Open the cited pages, check whether they support the claim, and confirm important dates or numbers before using them in an assignment. If you are comparing plans, start with our Perplexity Free and Pro comparison.
| Feature | Traditional Search Engines | Perplexity AI |
|---|---|---|
| Information Delivery | Pages of blue links | Direct synthesized answers |
| Source Tracking | Manual verification required | Inline, clickable citations |
| Academic Utility | High distraction, ads | High focus, study modes |
| Hallucination Risk | N/A | Reduced by retrieval and citations, but sources still need review |
In short, Perplexity helps you study smarter, not harder.
How the Perplexity Student Discount Works in 2026
Perplexity’s current Pro page advertises regular Pro at $17/month when billed annually. That displayed monthly equivalent works out to about $204 for 12 months; it is a calculation from the displayed figure, not a verified checkout total. The page does not show a separate month-to-month price.
The old free-Pro-for-12-months offer has changed. The current student path is Education Pro at $10/month after SheerID verification. Confirm your eligibility, exact charge, and local taxes before paying.
Education Pro is billed at $10/month after verification, or $120 across 12 monthly payments. Confirm the charge and renewal terms in your verified account. For a broader plan breakdown, compare the current Perplexity subscription plans.
Perplexity’s promotions and referrals page states that “Give a month, Get a month” ended October 6, 2025, while Comet referrals ended November 6, 2025. Neither is a current way to extend a student discount.
Promotional trials require payment details and, under the billing terms, renew at the selected standard plan rate unless canceled.
Step-by-Step: How to Get Perplexity Pro Discount as a Student
- Open Perplexity and choose Upgrade. Go to Perplexity.ai and sign in. Our Perplexity subscription walkthrough shows the standard upgrade flow.
- Select Education Pro. Choose the education option shown in your account.
- Verify through SheerID. Follow the verification prompt. Perplexity’s student-verification guide says you can use a personal or academic email; a
.eduaddress is not mandatory. - Review the price and billing interval. Confirm the exact charge shown for your verified account before submitting payment. The official help center does not publish a fixed country list; SheerID’s result determines eligibility.
- Save the renewal date. The discount is tied to the verified account and is not transferable. If you move to another email, you must re-verify.
Once verified, you’ll immediately gain access to Perplexity Pro features — including faster responses, higher-quality sources, and multi-model support.
As of August 4, 2026, Perplexity does not list an active public student referral extension. Its X account remains a company-news channel, not a substitute for the binding checkout terms.
What If You Do Not Qualify?
If you do not qualify for the education discount, you still have several practical options:
- Use the free Perplexity plan for lighter research.
- Pay for regular Perplexity Pro only during heavy research months.
- Use a current school, employer, carrier, or device promotion only if its official terms apply to you.
- Compare the legitimate options in our guide to getting Perplexity Pro free in 2026.
- Review the current Perplexity Pro cost and savings options.
- Compare a multi-model workspace such as GlobalGPT if you need more than Perplexity-style search.
For many students, the real problem is not one research subscription. It is juggling separate subscriptions for writing, coding, slides, image generation, video generation, and model comparison.
The Ultimate Student Alternative: GlobalGPT (Multi-Model AI)
Perplexity Education Pro is strongest when your priority is cited research in the official Perplexity product. GlobalGPT is the broader option when the same assignment also needs writing, coding, image generation, video generation, and cross-model comparison. See our tested list of Perplexity alternatives for 2026 for more choices.
| Feature / Capability | Perplexity Education Pro | GlobalGPT Pro Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Research & Citations | Yes, in the official Perplexity product | Yes, Perplexity is listed among the available tools |
| Video Generation | Not the plan’s core purpose | Veo 3.1 and Kling 3.0 listed |
| Image Generation | Available with plan limits | Nano Banana 2 listed |
| Student Verification | SheerID required for Education Pro | No student ID required |
| Listed Price | Education Pro: $10/month after verification ($120 over 12 monthly payments) | $10.8/month for Pro, billed annually ($129.60/year) |
GlobalGPT solves this fragmentation by aggregating 100+ AI tools and models into one unified dashboard. Its current workspace includes GPT-6 Astra and Perplexity alongside image and video tools. Basic costs $5.8/month when billed annually ($69.60 for 12 months).
If you need to create cinematic presentations, the $10.8/month Pro Plan ($129.60 for 12 months), billed annually, includes video and image tools alongside research models. GlobalGPT is a third-party multi-model workspace; access through it is not the same purchase as a direct official Perplexity Pro subscription.

Does Perplexity have a student discount?
Yes. Education Pro is $10/month after SheerID verification for eligible students and educators. Twelve monthly payments total $120.
Is Perplexity Pro free for students?
No, not as a universal offer. The old 12-month free deal is no longer the standard student path; the standard student route is discounted Education Pro after verification.
Who qualifies for the Perplexity education discount?
Students and educators who pass SheerID verification qualify. A personal or academic email can be used, and a .edu address is not mandatory. Perplexity does not publish a fixed country list in its help center.
Do I need a credit card for the Perplexity student discount?
Education Pro is a paid discounted plan, so checkout requires a payment method. Perplexity also requires payment details for promotional trials, which auto-renew at the selected standard plan rate unless canceled.
What happens after the student discount ends?
Perplexity does not publish one universal post-discount renewal amount for every country and promotion. The verified account’s checkout terms control; trial promotions renew at the selected standard plan rate unless canceled.
Can I use Perplexity in GlobalGPT?
Yes. GlobalGPT lists Perplexity among its AI search tools, so you can use Perplexity-style research alongside other models and creative tools. It is a third-party multi-model workspace, not the same as buying official Perplexity Pro directly.
Is GlobalGPT cheaper than Perplexity Pro?
At the displayed annual-billing rates, yes: GlobalGPT Basic is $69.60/year and Pro is $129.60/year. Perplexity advertises $17/month with annual billing, or about $204/year calculated from that display. Features and billing terms differ.
Should students choose Perplexity Pro or GlobalGPT?
Choose Perplexity Education Pro if you mainly want the official Perplexity product and can verify through SheerID. Choose GlobalGPT if your work needs research, writing, coding, images, video, and model comparison in one place.
Bottom Line
The answer is simple: Perplexity’s universal 12-month student-free offer is over. The standard academic route is Education Pro at $10/month after SheerID verification—$120 over 12 monthly payments.
Choose direct Education Pro for the official Perplexity experience. Choose a broader multi-model workspace when research is only one part of the job.
