i2c user group - definitely necessary?
"Add your current user to the user group i2c before logging out and back in." -- is this definitely necessary? @TheKnightSky since you added it, can you clarify why, and where/how you found this out? I'm not doubting you, it's just that I didn't know about this requirement and OpenRGB seems to be working just fine for me. Maybe I have no i2c RGB devices, or something is different on CachyOS..? - I think I had it mixed up when I was reviewing Wireshark, it does seem to only optionally require i2c-tools for that kind of access. Thanks for catching that. Also I would say add the next branch section things into installation and format it a bit better. See Style, it should help you out a bit. :) TheKnightSky (talk) 02:36, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks! As I'm really new to the wiki (and Arch in general, via CachyOS) (and I have some real-life obligations that I'd rather not procrastinate more than I already have), I think it would be better if you make the changes to the page. I'll learn from your example and I'll read the style guides at a later time before future wiki edits.
- Basically I thought the information I added is rather crucial for new users, so I figured it's best to just put the information on the wiki first in my best guess for the style, and allow experienced editors like you to polish it up. I'll learn the style eventually, but there's no need to stall this page. NeatNit (talk) 07:30, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
- I would recommend trying to make the style changes and formatting by yourself. After your edits, if there are any errors I'll try and catch them. TheKnightSky (talk) 11:47, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
- Okay, I gave it a shot. NeatNit (talk) 12:13, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

Reconsider "needs expansion" banner + review my recent changes
The article starts with Template:Expansion which was added when it was effectively a stub. The reasoning was: "This page needs more detailing out in terms of configuration, supported devices, troubleshooting, etc. Also needs categorization and cross-linking to and from this page." I think my contributions to the page have taken care of the first half, but categorization of cross-linking are outside my wheelhouse at this time. Those with more experience on the wiki, I'd appreciate if you could handle that and remove the banner.
Secondly, I'd like some feedback for my recent changes, particularly the latest one. The plugins section contains information and a link that is only relevant for right now and I know mentioning dates is discouraged, but I think this information is crucial and readers should know that it's applicable right now. Ideally, this info will be removed when it's no longer relevant, but in the off-chance that this article never gets updated again (or someone reads an archived version of it in a few years), it would be obvious that the info might be out of date.
I think I'm more pleased with the wikitable layout instead of the list of links. I've also removed all the plugins for which the developer didn't create a release-compatible AUR package, since that indicates to me that they are a lower priority and may not be as well-maintained. Either way, the link to an AUR search is still there following the table.
As this article is my first contribution to the Arch wiki, I'd appreciate some nitpicky feedback about how well it fits within the Arch Wiki and what you would have done different.
(Also, I know it should have been two separate edits, one for removing "next" and one for the plugins restructure, but only realized this when it was too late). NeatNit (talk) 19:45, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
- Just to be clear, the temporary info is just this line: "Due to API changes being implemented recently (July 2026), separate packages are available to maintain compatibility:"
- I believe that the dual packages will continue to be available indefinitely, and the table should remain. Plugins also have Release and Pipeline versions, with the former being updated much less frequently, so I expect the new packages to track the Release versions which were previously not available in the AUR.
- Time will tell whether the Pipeline version continues to offer enough benefit to be worth mentioning here, otherwise it could be removed per Help:Style#Package management instructions and then perhaps the article can be simplified. NeatNit (talk) 19:57, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
