Instalación

Requirements

To install and configure WooCommerce PayPal Payments, you will need:

  • WordPress Version 6.3 or newer (installed)
  • WooCommerce Version 9.6 or newer (installed and activated)
  • PHP Version 7.4 or newer
  • PayPal business or personal account

Installation instructions

  1. Log in to WordPress admin.
  2. Go to Plugins > Add New.
  3. Search for the WooCommerce PayPal Payments plugin.
  4. Click on Install Now and wait until the plugin is installed successfully.
  5. You can activate the plugin immediately by clicking on Activate now on the success page. If you want to activate it later, you can do so via Plugins > Installed Plugins.

Setup and Configuration

Follow the steps below to connect the plugin to your PayPal account:

  1. After you have activated the WooCommerce PayPal Payments plugin, go to WooCommerce > Settings.
  2. Click the Payments tab.
  3. The Payment methods list may include two PayPal options. Click on PayPal (not PayPal Standard).
  4. Click on the Activate PayPal button.
  5. Sign in to your PayPal account. If you do not have a PayPal account yet, sign up for a new PayPal business or personal account.
  6. After you have successfully connected your PayPal account, click on the Standard Payments tab and check the Enable Paypal features for your store checkbox to enable PayPal.
  7. Click Save changes.

Updating

Automatic updates should work generally smoothly, but we still recommend you back up your site.

If you encounter issues with the PayPal buttons not appearing after an update, purge your website cache. Caching or JavaScript minification can impact PayPal Payments and should be disabled for the PayPal scripts or payment-related pages.

We have upgraded from PayPal Standard (fazing out) to this new PayPal Payments plugin and the performance of online store fell off below the floor. Core Web Vitals by Google are failing. We had to stop accept PayPal payments completely to avoid Google penalties for poor page loading speeds. Once the plugin was removed – performance back to normal.

We have been using WooCommerce PayPal Payments since 2019, and for many years it worked very well for our business. Following a major update in late 2025, however, we began experiencing significant payment issues. We weren't aware that the update was going to introduce changes that might affect our particular setup, although it is possible that we simply missed the information about the upcoming update. In early 2026, we experienced an unusually high number of failed payments, which was obviously extremely concerning for an online business where reliable payment processing is essential. What made a major difference throughout this period was the quality of the support from Jamie and Krystian at Syde. They have consistently been excellent. Their responses are measured, professional and technically focused, and they have always been willing to investigate the underlying cause rather than simply suggesting generic troubleshooting steps. Even when the problems were difficult to reproduce, they continued to work through the evidence and investigate our particular WooCommerce environment. We did eventually decide to migrate to a third-party PayPal plugin because of the problems we had experienced. In hindsight, that was a huge mistake for us. The migration introduced its own payment problems and ultimately became a disaster for our business, including failed customer payments and lost sales. We have now migrated back to WooCommerce PayPal Payments, and we are very relieved that we did. The latest investigation was particularly reassuring. Syde tested our actual staging environment with the latest version of the plugin and identified a specific issue affecting card processing that was related to the way our postcode/ZIP code was being passed to PayPal's Level 3 processing. They explained the cause clearly, provided an immediate workaround, and confirmed that the plugin's payment flows were then working correctly. They have also indicated that they will address the underlying issue in the plugin itself. This experience has reinforced something that is easy to overlook when choosing a payment plugin: support matters just as much as the plugin itself. A payment plugin can have thousands of positive reviews, but if something goes wrong with your particular WooCommerce setup, you need a support team that will actually investigate the problem and work with you to find the root cause. For us, WooCommerce PayPal Payments remains the better choice. It is the official WooCommerce PayPal integration, it supports the payment methods we need, and, most importantly, we have found the Syde support team to be exceptionally helpful when we have encountered problems. If you are a merchant considering moving away from WooCommerce PayPal Payments because you are experiencing payment issues, I would strongly recommend speaking to the Syde support team and allowing them to investigate the problem before migrating to a third-party plugin. Our decision to migrate away was, in hindsight, a huge error, and we were genuinely relieved to return to the official plugin. After everything we have experienced, I am very happy to give WooCommerce PayPal Payments a highly positive recommendation. The plugin has been part of our business since 2019, and the quality of support we have received from Jamie and Krystian has given us renewed confidence in continuing to use it.

Critical mobile credit card failure – lost customers and switched plugins

This plugin is deeply unstable and possesses too many bugs for live e-commerce environments. Specifically, the integration completely fails to process mobile credit card transactions, resulting in a broken checkout flow that cost my business actual customers.The level of frustration caused by these persistent technical flaws is unacceptable for a payment gateway. I am absolutely not looking for support or troubleshooting assistance, as the software is simply not reliable enough for production.I have completely abandoned this plugin and switched to an alternative PayPal integration, which is currently working perfectly. Merchants looking for a reliable mobile credit card checkout experience should look elsewhere.

I had issues with the plugin but they all got resolved by the amazing support team (Krystian in particular). They really took time to test it on my website to make sure everything is working as it should. I'm confident with using the plugin and I know if I have problems in the future, they will be resolved.
