Geeks Unite
I figure there are likely many geeks on here, so I'm going to issue a large scale invitation.
UMass has quite a few places for geeks to gather and form new friendships. Two perhaps of the biggest are the following:
Student Union 423A - This is a large office which is shared by 5 groups. 3 of these share a mutual space.
Umass Geek OfficeUMJAMS - University of Massachusetts Japanimation and Manga Society
- Your location for all things anime, they have an extensive library, regular showings and several marathons over the course of the year. Showings and marathons are done on theater size screens.
GHL - Game Hobbyist's League
- A gamers paradise. With weekly meetings to meet and play and a convention thrown annually. There is a tremendous library of roleplaying games and the members often bring in various video game systems for the office to play. Open games are often posted for people to join.
SCUM - Science-Fiction Conventioneers of UMass
- A currently deactivated group looking to make a come back. For many years this group would assist with putting on conventions and regularly held its own (NJAC - Not Just Another Convention).
The other place to hit is:
Campus Center Rm. 166
UMSFS - The University of Massachusetts Science Fiction Society
- With perhaps the largest lending library of sci-fi/fantasy books that you will ever see, this is a great place to fulfill your geek literature needs without going broke.
Hope to see you all around at some point.
