 | 03:23 pm - UK elections This is for anyone who goes to UK, who is concerned about their future at the school.
I recently got an e-mail from a student on Facebook asking where and when he could vote. He said that he had searched all over the place to find out this information. You should be concerned it looks like another election is being manipulated by not providing enough information to votes. Not only do we not know where the polls are and what times they are open. The polls are not going to have enough workers because SG did not advertise for poll workers. We go through this every year, where there are not enough pollworkers so the polls are open shorter times. This is rediculous, we should have plenty of information and the polls should be open the maximum time to accomdates students right to vote. If I am elected to SG Senate at-large. I will propse sweeping elction reform to make SG elections more fair to candidates and students. I think that it is important that SG makes major changes, not just promises. So please Write in Sean Cooper for SG Senate at large. Please go vote Wednesday and Thursday and help take back SG for the students.
Here is my plaform:
Women’s safety. It is imperative that we do things to improve safety on campus. Statistically, 1 in 3 women on campus will be assaulted. 1 in 3, That is unacceptable. We want to improve communications between the many groups that are fighting to improve safety and how information reaches the student body. We propose the creation of an annual crime report and a SMS text messaging system that would alert students of possible danger, so they can take the proper precautions to avoid it.
Operate a livable A few years ago, UK was ranked 12th by students voting in a Princeton review survey, for Dorms that Look like Dungeons. The university has worked hard to change this image by building new dorms and by making renovations and other improvements to the other dorms on campus. We want to make parking more reasonable for students who live on and off campus. Students deserve a fair dining plan and we will fight to change the meal plan to make it fair and affordable. Healthier foods must also be provided for students, so that the fabled freshmen 15 can remain a myth and not a reality.
Reduce UK’s environmental footprint. This university uses as much energy as a city, to heat and power it’s dorms, classroom buildings, offices and other facilities. For this reason a commitment should be made to use renewable energy. As the flagship university, UK should be an example for the rest of the state, enacting technologies that will reduce energy costs and wastes. We also want to work to find funding to make modifications to the new environmental dorm, so that it can serve as a proof of concept for future buildings on campus and in the commonwealth. And we urge all students to vote for the referendum that Green Thumb worked so hard to get on the ballot, this year.
Keep tuition affordable. Every year since we have been here, tuition has increased and students have complained about it. While increases might be necessary to keep up with the rising costs of operating a University, many of these increases have been excessive. Such increase can be offset by a commitment from the General Assembly to appropriately fund UK and other public universities. We might not be able to stop tuition costs from rising, but we can certainly work to lessen the extent it does increase. Students need to realize that they can have an impact in Frankfort. As interns for the General Assembly, we have both witnessed successes from various groups, in lobbying legislators to vote for or against various legislations. Efforts must be made throughout the whole Legislative session to make our senators and representatives aware of our concerns. Traveling to Frankfort and writing letters to Frankfort, once a year is not enough to get the legislator’s attention. Student Government and the student Body must make their presence known in Frankfort, if we don’t want our tuition to become unbearable.
Students First. A few months ago President Todd released the Top 20 business plan, an effort to make UK a top 20 Research University. This plans calls for the building of new facilities, creations of new programs, and the hiring of new faculty, among other things. Many students have expressed concerns that UK is going to neglect undergraduate studies and more specifically Arts and Humanities programs in this pursuit of top 20 status. It is our hope that this is not the case, and we want to be a voice in letting the administration know that all students matter, regardless of what degree program and grade level. We want to see the Reynolds building receive a full renovation and possible expansion. This facility has been neglected for far too long, and UK’s art students deserve better. The Top 20 plan touts many scientific and economic improvements that will benefit the commonwealth, but what about the cultural contributions that uk can make to the state. UK and other state universities hold the brain trust of the state. Not only do the next great Kentucky Doctors, Engineers, and Pharmacists attend UK, but The Next great artists, authors, musicians are present as well. It is for these reasons that UK must show favor to all programs and not just programs that have the potential to earn the university more prestige and revenue.
If you have any questions let me know. Please share this information with your friends.
Thanks
Sean Cooper

 | 11:22 am - If you want change... If you were dissapointed in the outcome of the recent election. Or if you have serious reservations about the direction that the country is going in, then it is time for you to act. It is time to reclaim our country, before we get left with nothing. We can no longer wait until we become the generation in control of the government; by that time there will be multi-trillion dollar deficits, no social security ( anybody that works has been paying into this system), freedom restrictive laws, and much more. If you wanna work for change then join up here: http://www.livejournal.com/community/phoenixparty/.

| 04:14 pm I have one piece of advice for those who actually show up for class in the winter:
-Don't lick your lips. When you walk near POT, ice will form on your lips where you licked them.
Yeah, that's a little exaggerated, but maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, it was cold this morning.
