Anyone have any advice on why a BNSF IM train from Avondale, LA would have gone the sunset route (Houston, San Antonio, El Paso, etc) through Texas? A friend and I rode one that we were under the impression would cross the northern parts of TX, NM, and AZ and then head up to Richmond, CA, but we were mistaken. Also, anyone know anything about the Oakland yard or the line to Chicago?

On wednesday crybabyshame and I rode in a 48 from Richmond, VA to Jacksonville FL. Easy get on in Richmond with no problems except cold rain for the whole 13 or so hours. A brief crew change in Florence, S.C. also went by without a hitch, and was our only stop along the way. We hopped off at 5:30 in the morning in the approaches to Jacksonville yard and wandered through, wet, cold, filthy, and sleep deprived, as worried about snakes and alligators as we were about the bulls. Made it out of the yard without any trouble and walked half a mile to where we got a ride to beautiful St. Augustine.
What I would do next time:
Bring more fucking rain gear

Hey, well nothing else has been posted which is fine, I didn't think anyone would really.

So, I just got back from a short little trip on my good old friend Norfolk Southern... oh how I love you and hate you more than ever now...

Asheville-Knoxville-Chattanooga (on the 135 a Linwood-Chattanooga manifest) then the 179 outta Chattanooga to Birmingham (a Bellevue to Birmingham/Meridian/New Orleans manifest)... then got the good ol' boot from the Irondale railcop... then switched to CSX only to catch the wrong train towards Atlanta... then I got my ex to pick me up from Athens... and now i'm engaged to her.

Funny how the world works.
